nevermind, now we can know the difference d,
just they are not really used to use b.yond decoder,
sometimes need to press 'power' button sometimes no,
but now while we are watching National Geographic HD,
we can see clearly the animals inside,
and do not need to watch SD channel with very low quality,
even worst than the quality of RMVB player..

I just realised that I misquoted tongue.gif

agreed, they can just lock it down at anytime

I hope that it can be boot to USB, then it can be a media player  drool.gif

From what I've gathered is that it uses Linux , Kernel 2.6 series and it uses ARM processor. So I am thinking its capable of playing mp3s , divx and i am not quite sure about mkvs yet. But its capable enough. If you think I am joking , open up your Installation Guide. Read the last few pages , you'll notice about GPL License and OpenSSH !

Another thing to note that its open-source tongue.gif but astro has to open up for us to experiment with it

By the way , I'll be requesting the source code for the OS . Currently they dont have it @ their site , so yeah ( http://www.pace.com/opensource/form/requestCode.asp ). Hopefully they can share the source code with me and lets see what I can do about it !

owh we can decline the RM 20 for HD channel ?? afaik RM 20 is in the package included with new decoder dish set..rite ??
*
No , you can't. Take it with RM 20 extra. No buts , thats why if you're on CRT still. Its not recommended to get it , unless you're going to get an LCD asap then just want to get this done first. Its not a problem.

@idoblu , where are you located?

Unless folks are willing to share and get the source code and have a look at it to see what can be done. Personally , I'll see if i am through. If so great , and if can afford the $10 myself or if people are willing to pay a bit (including) myself and get the source code for the os which byond runs on.

Argh , HD shows are being repeated or they are just being crap. After 1 day , its back to square , but its just that the quality is superb

You can't compare with BluRay , but again it pretty much looks like upscaled DVD source. Thats how I would describe it

For those of you who don't have 120Hz TrueMotion or what-so-ever, switch the source to 720p. I've noticed that for sports channel it seems to be better.

may be need to apply for relative.

The non- HD channels , yes

You'll have to go through ASTRO. I reckon you to do that tongue.gif

I think Prasys mentioned here that the new B.yond decoder won't allow that already. The card can only be used on one decoder.
*
Yes its tied down to your decoder

QUOTE(Fly1968 @ Dec 24 2009, 03:50 PM)
new astro card tie to the new decoder ?  that sucks !
*
Its tied down to your DECODER only. Even if you bring someone elses decoder , it does not work . You can thank HDCP for that tongue.gif

I thinks HDCP it for content protection only. Should be nothing wrong if we want use to other byond decoder.
*
Currently it does not work. You can't use A's smart card on B's decoder. It will ask for the right smart card. Again its up to ASTRO how they handle. However old smart cards will not work even if the decoder itself is capable of reading it. ASTRO has taken a lot of steps with their new STB . I guess they have realised the whole swap-a-smartcard and enjoy channels thingy

Edit #2 : Thanks accitzone for providing the source.

You can get some el cheapo sets. If you dont want all the best ones , best stuff. I am using some el cheapo samsung amp. I think it sucks , so I might let my computer to do the post-processing and then feed it to the amp

I already read about HDCP and it only purpose is about to protect the content using encryption. So we still cannot copy their content if we swap our card to other decoder. Just curious what they worried anyway if we can swap card to another decoder. I think astro should allow card to be use in other decoder too.

They have their reason. I am guessing this is the reason. Its simple , if they want to enable recording thingy with their new box. People would use USB sticks. Now suppose my in-laws do have movie packages and I don't. When they come here over the weekends , poof I could use their Smart card. Record the movie and watch it later at my own time or whenever I want to. If they do this , its going to be hard , as people with other smart card , will record and then store it for the packages they dont pay for. So I am guessing ASTRO truly wants to make use of HDCP by doing this. So that the recorded content can be played back on the exact same Setup box (astro byond box) + smart card and not other person's astro byond box + your smart card , etc.

As for how well HD looks on SD component out. If your CRT TV supports progressive scan. I do know some CRT TV with dedicated DVD output has this progressive scan enabled. Then yes , it looks fantastic. I do own 29" Philips CRT TV with progressive scan (aka dvd output). Things are bit better when you watch HD channel on CRT TV with progressive scan enabled. It looks like watching high quality divx rips or dvd movies tongue.gif

For normal CRT , just forget it. Seriously , you can't notice the difference at all.

Here is how I dealt with ASTRO Team. Again it depends how you talk and the selection of words that you use. Most people just demand for an installer or other things , which don't really work

I've waited for 8 days and poof no sign of an installer. So what i did was , I called up ASTRO. I explained to them about this thing and then the tech support rep said that she'll forward this case to level 2 and I'lll get the call from their manager within 24 hours . Fair enough , I waited. Unfortunately no call

The next day , I rang them. I asked another tech support rep to check on my case. She said the same ol' story. I told her poitely , I understand you're a rep. Now I do hope that the installer calls me within 24-48 hours. Suppose if he fails to call or if I fail to get any calls or e-mail from ASTRO , I've no choice but to bring this case forward to MCMC and as well as to Press. I've been waiting for such a long time , I understand there is a huge demand. I do hope that ASTRO can at least put a smile on existing customer who have waited very long to get HD Services

These were the exact words that I've used. Poof , within 2 hours , I got an call from the installer and the next day , it was installed. I did not demand for his number nor his name nor what-so-ever. i just said I want it to get it done

For the sake of testing analogue , I tested with analogue output + Dolby Pro Logic II. To my surprise , it did sound better then 5.1 with echos. I think i am going to settle with DLP II for now.

Does your TV Tuner support HDCP , if not. You may have problems such as jerking , poor quality of recording and other stuff

This seems to be doing the trick

Feed it to Creative XtremeMusic , let it do some post-processing to the input and then feed it back to the amp and the sound seems to be better. But then , I dont like to leave the PC on to have 5.1 processed properly. I'll find another way

Again if you want to use analogue audio. its fine , just set it to 2.0 and then connect to your Amp , enable DL ProLogic II and you sorta have 5.1. Yes it does indeed work with HD Channels. Gives the 5.1 feeling , but again you still can't beat DD 5.1. Its your call. Currently i am using DLP II myself because astro is having issues with their DD 5.1 with some channels
