Yeah GS is a big NO-No in a few guilds now in Dreadmaul cos I guess it's about time that they realised ppl with high gear scores that dun know the fight is doomed to fail lolx. We had a 25man Ony fight and my gear score sux I assume cos my gears are mostly pvp gear and not that high lvl. lolx. Heck i'm still using my ilvl 135 trinket i think. And yet I still score among the top 5 dpser's lolx. Go figure. Must be my cyle. Anyways, back to the Ony fight. one pug party was created and they went on teh fight with the so-called high gear scores, while another one which I was in Had another one. Both raids started about hte same time and we finished well before them without a wipe. The "high geared" raid wiped 3 times! lolx and finished later.  Lolx.

Let's hope more n more ppl would not look at GS to pug raids etc. it only gives newer players a fighting chance to get involved.

Gearscore can also cause lag. Imagine your addon "whispering" to 24 other people in the raid for their item levels. And 24 other people in turn doing that to you. Install Spam-Fu and you can see just how much info Gearscore asks for and receives in a raid.

LOL, that happened a lot in my server. All you need is a decent tank and DPS who knows how to GTFO from cave/tail/breath.
I have seen geared groups doing stupid stuff like ZOMG WHELPSPAWNS LOLIHAVELEETGEARAOESPAMTOPDPSMETERS>OHSHITAGGRO>RUNNING AWAY FROM WHELPS AND OUTSIDE TANK RANGE and make whelp die slower, or even worse ignore adds and ZOMGHIGHDPS bring down Onyxia right when DBM warns whelp and elite spawning, then start blaming the tank for not picking whelps and elites when ony lands and fear everyone.

Its really stupid how the GearScore and Achievement system is ruining the game.

For example:
You want to start gearing a newly lvl alt. Lets say you start off with HTOC/Naxx gear.
You want to start raiding Trial of the Crusader asap, but people rejected you coz you don't have the "lolgearscore" for it.
So you try to get some LOLduar gear for to get so call "entry lvl gear" for loltoc.
When you want to join an Uld25, you will still get rejected coz most pugs expecting achievements from an old raid instance like lolduar.

Well of course, i know some of you say this is QQing and argue that i can buy badge gear etc. But you get my point.

Having been away for more than 6 months... People generally take me for a noob, just cos I'm new to fights and have a 4.2k GS. I didn't even know WTF was gearscore, and they straight away called me Noob. like.... "LOL noob must be a noob, don't even know what's GS"

Then, I was in VoA. Never done the 2 new bosses. Died once to the 1st boss' Nova, I was already running out as I saw the cast, was just a tad bit in his range. Thing is, they ONLY told me about the enraged add and NOTHING about the nova, and I also almost got out of range. Instantly, everyone called me a noob and said if rogue loot drops they would DE it. Except for one shaman who told me about the boss in whisper. Next run, ended up I was no.2 on DPS with the lowest GS, the lock who talked the most cock died.

I agree that how players use Gearscore is absolutely idiotic. It does NOT judge a person's ability. It literally judges a book by its cover. Sigh, my 1st week back into WoW and I am already seeing why I got so frustrated at it....

with all that said against GS, it does have its point though. considering how easy it is to gear up in WOTLK, there is no reason to run around in greens or blues whether you're an alt #3893 or not.

i only log in maybe 4-5 days or even ONLY on the weekends, each login can vary from either 5-10 minutes, 1-2 hours to 5-8 hours tops.  And i only mainly pvp as you all already knew. yet i still get get pretty good gear score (lol ilevel 245 welfare) having 5-7k dps++ (lol 13-14k dps on ony whelps) during PVE encounters.

i dont see why someone still need so much spoon feeding and carrying in a game thats already dumbed down and casualized to the bone. Again, that is not to take anything away from the hardcores as there are lolachievements, server first, heroic mode, hard mode, etc. Point being is that its really no excuse to get your damn gear on your damn alt, or spend 5 minutes to read up some lousy PUG standardized VOA strats.

i'm still running around in greens or blues... no puggable dungeon runs due to roller coaster latency... even fel orcs from rampant can chop me down in 2 second lags... *sigh*

TMNut just gotten worst these few weeks and i'm thinking of calling helpline, request tier 2 technician, yelling at them for 2 consecutive weeks, then screw those technicians by putting blame on using notebook to troubleshoot and 'corrupted' my already corrupted-and-unusable windoze...

i'd usually would ask those who are more experienced with dungeon runs on what they are looking for, who they are looking for in raids and sadly the answer is either 'tanks' or 'heal bots'... being in thau (Alliance side) i know that alliance dun heal in bg and the 2 posts are needed a lot, and most of the time they aren't helping people to gear stuffs instead of ninjaing gears.

btw, i wonder who came up with such ideas on comparing GS inthe 1st place?

C'mon Quaza, who would have thought one has to read up on VoA strats. Its VoA ffs and I assumed it would be cake which it was, they only told me to attack enraged add when I see one and left out the rest of the details. If it was a raid like ToC I would read it up, which I have. I tried to run out of that nova because I used my CoS upon standing on that fire and taking some damage due to it being tanked on the yellowish shiny part of the ground.

Its not about getting spoon fed for my case. If I know the boss in the raid for VoA and someone asked, I would just politely type these words.

"There'll be fire on ground, look out for nova, attack enraged add."

Alts should have no problem gearing up if they know who your main is. Unless your main is a noob, then its gonna be even harder than being an unknown alt.

Ok, firstly i'm a known pugger on Kalecgos and have tons of experience pugging TOC10/25, TOGC, Ulduar 10/25, OS3, VOA10/25 etc...
Gearscore shouldn't be thought of as an absolute. It's just for generally checking people.

For example if your doing TOC25, but someone registers as gearscore 2500, their obviously wearing blues or greens not even ready for it. Either that or they are not wearing their full gear. Check if their naked or wearing an alt spec gear set.

If they are wearing PVP gear, ignore their gearscore and deduct a few hundred points off it. PVP gear is known to inflate gearscores and it hardly useful for pve encounters. I usually tend not to invite people with PVP gear.
After doing gearscore, check what gear they have. Their gear tells you a story where they have raided. For example if they got Heart of Iron, means they've killed Ignis in Ulduar 25 before.... If they have the Crusader Glory sword itemlevel 245, means that they have killed Anub in TOC25.... basically you want people who from their gear seem to have quite some raiding experience, otherwise how else would they get gear from these bosses??? (unless they bought their accounts which is usually rare)

for TOC10 and 25 i usually bring gearscore 4600+. For TOC10 the lowest you can get is probably gearscore 4200-4400
Tanks should have the highest gear score, followed by DPS. Healers can have the minimum gearscore. They should also be skilled healers :/

last night i join a PUG for VOA and yes again min GS needs to be 4.5k and above

down the 1st boss easily so when the raid leader was sorting out the loot the rest resume clearing mobs till the next boss

to the next boss then suddenly the raid leader become a NINJA giving the loot to this guild member ignore those who won the roll

those who won the roll but didn't get the loot left the raid and go aggro boss

boss raped the entire raid team....
again GS stinks
