Usually, safe time is 2 weeks...

But to be honest, I tried adding crs and rcs on the 8th day after start up... (with A2) Nothing happened... But there were other contributing factors to this, ( constant room temperature, wc method i used for the 1st week, Old tank water, Old mature filter media? )

So for you to be safe, 2 weeks.

With A1 on the other hand, personally, I'd wait 1 month haha..

zangetsu and his iwagumi.. pics. nOw. haha

@fong,
Well, I don't pay extra attention to that, if you worry of an ammonia rise, your filter should be mature enough to handle it.

Michanz, go ahead.

also, thats looks like a modified top filter into a modified top sump haha..

Still HOBs or canisters would be better due to the c02 loss

QUOTE(michanz @ Dec 24 2009, 01:10 AM)
im looking at it.. how does HOB and my top filter now differ in terms of co2 loss?
both goes in one side and flows out gently the other side..no water disturbance/bubbles..

im wondering in which part of the filter that this co2 loss happens

canisters no doubt would be the best! =D
btw anyone diy a canister before?
*
Simple, surface area. the water surface area which is moving gives off more c02.. hence c02 loss.. HOBs have smaller suface areas vs top filters though... Canister still being the best haha.

Iwagumi is not as simple as you may think it is.. because it looks so simple and calming, the task to scape it is waaay harder..

I agree with pinch that moss is also a b!^%$

Lilly pipes are used to disperse the flow better troughout the tank.. gentle wave if you must,.

Here's a better idea.. get a lilly pipe haha...

Though a budget solution is.. use kitchen roll or newspaper.. slab it over water surface.. and dispose.
