okok..i think it sort of happened to me last nite.
yesterday after bringing my family for yum-char in my Forte, i decided to go bank atm so double-parked while my wife, baby n parents were inside car. key was in my pocket. when i went out i heard some sound or beep coming out from my car.
then i saw dashboard n it stated 'key not in car'.
so, there..you will be notified by KITT.

I believe that the moment the driver(with the key) steps out of the vehicle, there will be a warning in the multi-info display saying that the key is out of the vehicle. Even though the car can still run, when you look at the MID, you will see the warning. And hopefully the replacement driver will look at the MID before driving off.
