For the past few days,my ps3 slim(bought it @ launch in 1U) had started to give me problems..Here r the problem than i had encounter:-

1)It takes a verrrrrryyyy long time to load up the game

2)It takes a very long time to start-up the XMB(sometimes no icons at all,so i need to switch off and on the power switch cause no choice)

3)It often hangs

4)Then just now after i force switch off the ps3(cause hang),then when i turned it ON back,it went into recovery mode,it ask me to install back the FW3.01..SO after i install back,still no difference..All the problems r still there

**All this happen just recently only

I really dun understand la why its is like this,its only been what about 2 weeks only ..My last phat PS3 kaput because of YLOD.. ..

So im planning to go and claim the warranty tomoro..Any recommendations?I live in Ampang btw..KlCC's Sony Style ok?

actually the slim as i notice it compared to the phat one starts slower.. if u do a quick search allot of people who had the phat one noticed is first hand.

but the part where u say it hangs., i hv yet to experience tat

i read some similar cases on phat before, wtf now so fast occuring on slim set also

its still good for u coz u got local warranty, i now scared if my hk set got similar problem...

Do post of the updates since I also eager to know what will the sony center do on this kind of problem since it is not a hardware failure case.

It could be firmware corrupted due to hdd bad sectors (defective hdd?)... or otherwise

PS3 have pre-installed hdds from Seagate, Fujitsu, Hitachi, and Toshiba

im sure its a hard drive issue as the os is installed in the harddrive just like windows can get corrupted ,most probably a bad sector

Hmm, i am facing some symptoms too.

Games takes time to load especially after 4th hours of gaming.

Games can "hang" abruptly (although I thought this is due to the games itself)

Anyway, i will adhere to the advice from Bernard & Crystal from Gamers Solution

MAX 5 HRS GAMING PER DAY ONLY.

ic..but i rarely play more than 2 hours..So for my case,i dont think so is got to do with over-heating etc..

sighhh... my PS3 Slim usually run 4 to 5hours, above 12hours on staurday and sunday, no problem.

I notice that Mostly on Demon's Souls though

I will always try to give one hour rest to the console after 5 hrs playing. So, yeah, keep the lifespan of the machine as long as possible.

is it normal for the ps3 to hang? sometimes i mean...i experience 2 times b4 in like 8 months.. have to switch off n on back....then no problem de...why arrr?

doesn't noe if this matter....my aunt bf work e&e in a factory in pg n sony had told them to cut cost months ago n they change the material on MY product......the insulator or smthg smthg i fgt.....

i suspect the hd has some badsectors.

I dun think Max 5 hours a day is a problem....


I once play my PS3 fat from 12pm till night 9pm none stop no problem
Then play Army of Two with my fren from morning 11am play till night 8pm no problem
Then Resident Evil 5 from 3pm afternoon straight play till 1am none stop also no problem
Even with Uncharted 2 i play like 8pm play till 3am also no problem although the fan was noisy like hell.

So i guess the 5 hours max stuff does not apply.... at least for PS3 fat.

i once play gt4 enduro for 24 hours.

I think PS3 Phat has better ventilation. PS3 Slim did give out a lot of heat. Luckily, i place my PS3 Slim in open space, i can only wonder for those that put into a cabinet or something.

If ur system hangs, dun ever ever ever ever shut it down by turning the power from the back. Force restart it by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.

ps3 phat is still a bit superior
i tried playing tekken then go to xmb to read msg .
tekken 6 on background immediate lag lol . but on ps3 phat it is fine
and i dont think heat is really a prob whether got air con or not unless u put into closed cabinet with no breathing space.

of course the mobo also makes a diff . it is hard to explain why 1st batch ps3 is really faster in loading certain games and xmb .

better u take ur ps3 claims at Sony Midvalley...better service and fast since its the center of warranty claiming for ps3...according to Bernard from Gamers Solution la...

Just got back from Midvalley's Northpoint Sony Service Centre HQ..They took my ps3 away ..They said they need to inspect it..She said will take up to 5 working days ..So this weekend no gaming for me...

@aiyish - I tried everything already(press the power button for more than a minute,the green light just keep blinking)..No response whatsoever from the ps3 system.

So now ill just have to wait till next week la to find out..

Btw,i even ask then for the 1 to 1 exchange,she said that only occurs if we have problem on the system within 3 days of purchase only..

So thats basically the update from me for now

I just got mine a month ago (HK set). It work alrite, but i did experience a cracking sound about 10 seconds after i turn on the system and about 10 seconds after i turn it off. I think its a normal thing, coz i heard the same sound from my standard tv. I guess its fine. Anyway bout ur case, is it a firmware problem? There's a big fuss bout this 3.00/3.01 updates. Perhaps the latest released 3.10 will fix that.

i also got my during the launch, no 13 in the line but my prob is differrent...

i get snow and flickering whenever i set it to run at 1080p, other resolutions is ok... first i thought is the cable, but even with a monster cable still same thing, can see the video here:


the weirdiest thing is that using my older ps3 phat, this problem does not occur no matter which cable i use, it works fine in 1080p

now only can run on 1080i and im like half hearted to get unchartered 2 since i can enjoy full hd gaming

yupe.. been using 1080p on my older phat for almost 2 yrs now no problem...

another weird thing is using the slim to play bluray at 1080p, the flickering and snow goes away..

i thought uncharted 2 is running at 1080p?

anyway thinking of sending it back... but then have to backup everything and also de-activate all the accounts since who knows what sony will do with it and whether or not i will be receiving the same unit back... :/

Guys,i just receive a call from Sony Center regarding my ps3..All that i can say right now is that im PISSED!

The guy who spoke on the phone told me that he has been testing my ps3 for the past 3 days BUT everything is working fine.Like wth la!..U know what the guy told me,he said that my ps3 hangs is because 'HE THINKS' my controller is not fully-charge!!!!(which i farkin disagree 1000000000%)!!What kind of stupid excuse is that!The way he was talking also like a real sloppy worker..

And he keeps on saying that 'your ps3 is new with 1 year warranty mah,anything u can bring back in future,nothing wrong with ure ps3'..

He doesnt know that i dont want to go all the way to Mid Valley to give my ps3 for sevrvice every month!I just want the damn problem to be resolved!

So guys,he ask me to collect it in KLCC this monday!If the damn problem is still there,im really gona fark up sony + that guy!

Maybe u can try to remove your hdd then reformat it. Then reinstall to the latest firmware 3.10.

Orait guys,Sony called my yesterday at about 5pm,saying that my ps3 had successfully arrived in Sony Style KLCC..So i straight-away jumped out of my bed and head-down to KLCC..

So i went straight to the Service Centre..Then guess what,i tried to ask them to test my system u know what answer they gave me?

"Sorry encik,dekat sini tak ada wayar ps3 untuk test awak punye ps3"----------->SONY BULLSHIT FTW!!

Again they gave me another STUPID reply!

So i was like ok la ill take it back home and test it myself(i already know that the problem is still going to persist as the technician did not repair my ps3)

hmm might try to copy your data ultility into usb or something before you reformat.Dun know la if it will affect your trophy.

trophies sync with server.nothing to do with game data.as far as i know save games can be copied to other hdd and use in same ps3.some save games are copied protected that cant be use by other ps3.
