Just Cause 2 is a sandbox style action video game currently under development by Swedish developer Avalanche Studios and published by Eidos Interactive, and distributed by Square Enix. It is currently set for a release in 2010. It is the sequel to the 2006 video game Just Cause.

Just Cause 2 uses a new version of the Avalanche Engine, Avalanche Engine 2.0; an updated version of the engine used in Just Cause. The game will be set on the other side of the world, compared to Just Cause, on the fictional tropical island of Panau in Southeast Asia.

About The Game

The orders are simple: hunt down and execute a rogue agent that has stolen top-secret intelligence and millions in Agency cash. For agent Rico Rodriguez, the mission is anything but routine. The target is Tom Sheldon, Rico’s former commanding officer, mentor and friend; a man who knows Rico better than he knows himself.

Sheldon went dark while operating in the corrupt island nation of Panau. There, three rival gangs wage war in the streets while the ruthless dictator Baby Panay rules the island with an iron fist. With the resources of the Agency at his disposal, Rico must infiltrate the island and locate Sheldon, setting off a violent chain of events that will set Panau ablaze.

Each of Rico’s assignments can be tackled by land, sea or air with more than 100 vehicles including tactical jeeps, attack helicopters and jet fighters. As the Agency’s best, Rico can execute a range of breathtaking new stunts, utilizing his trademark parachute and upgraded grapple to reach any location in Panau. Somewhere on the 400 square mile island of white sand beaches, scorching deserts and snow-capped peaks, Sheldon awaits.

The game takes place on the fictional island of Panau, situated in the Malay Archipelago. It is geographically similar to both New Zealand and Hawaii.

Just Cause 2 Demo has been released on steam...it has a time limit of 30minute for each play, but u can play it over n over again after d time expire...it was fun for me and it is easily supported by my ancient rig at 20-30fps with all high/very high @ 1600x900 with 2AF...

and here is how u can extend ur time by completing mission/challenge

Square Enix has revealed how to extend the time limit in the Just Cause 2 demo released yesterday.

By default, the demo for Avalanche Studios' open world action sequel is limited to 30 minutes of play time, but Square Enix community man Mike Oldman has outlined a number of ways to extend the limit. Reaching 50 kills will add another 30 seconds of time but to earn one and two minute extensions you'll need to complete the faction mission and the race challenge.

f***, i feel like getting the game now to "appreciate" the voice acting.

just tried the demo, quite good and fast action game.

quite funny tho playing game with places of malaysian name

game requirement are considered somewhat high

nah...its better than bc2...i can run it satisfyingly at 25-30fps...

finally there's a workaround for the timer. Link
it freezes the timer but the day/night cycle still occurs.

anyone know how to grapple urself to something??

i would like to attached Rico to a about to be rocket gas tank but i just cant seem to do it.

The control seems abit off to me. Graphic wise, its awesome but somehow tht chinese aunty voice potong stim la.

To grapple should just be F by default no? Not sure you can grapple to a flying gas tank though

Not sure if that game can be played for long time as it might get repetitive, but it's good game to relax while destroying places once in a while I think

From the trailer at the end of the demo could see there is more landscapes than just deserts, cities could be damn fun with blowing up stuff.
Even though most of the buildings cannot enter or destroy.

Probably will finish it before moving to Just Cause 2.

to enjoy this game, dont play the main story missions....
its just the same old fetch and escort missions..
when the map is huge, travelling from point A to point B is quite a hassle...

Just abuse the grappling hook; use it on ppl, cars,..experience the new vehicle jacking mini-game, especially in mid air..
Rinse and Repeat....basically Just Cause 2 is a frickin game 'prototype'....
If you havent get the game, just download the demo...just coz Just Cause is just boring otherwise...

This game is awesome.. a lot more fun than GTAIV. granted there's not as much stuff to do as GTA but the stuff that you can do is just more fun.

Having said that i'm playing the xbox 360 version.. I imagine the pc version on a rig that can run it properly must look amazing. I might get the pc version later on if it ever goes on sale on steam (and when i upgrade my pc).

I'm on something like 16 hours played with just about 20% completed. So this game is bloody huge.

Unlike the above poster - I happen to think that paragliding around with the hook is quite fun and relaxing which changes the pace of the game after blowing shit up. The story missions themselves are also pretty varied - only up to mission 4 atm but they seem quite varied (though they all involve blowing stuff up - which is AWESOME)

Yup! Panau is a ficitonal island, but the names used is definitely Malay. They even try to ape the Malay english accent with a "lah" inserted every now and then.

Sold! buying it just cause of the Malay words and Singlish accent!

LOL.. looks like a cool game and funny too.

Just another kiddo game after Prototype. The concept of the game really unrealistic, ridiculous. Only with nice graphic, the AI and flying,jump,shoot,hook around brainlessly gameplay only suitable for kid la.

It's a damn fun game from what I saw in the demo and it does not take it seriously at all with some crazy stuff happening during certain missions from what I read, like Mission Impossible or James Bond.

Games are not all "srs business" and I am glad to see Just Cause 2 getting some good reviews from people, god forbid you take fun in a game

Dude, 1st of all the game is not made for kids ... the game is rated 18..

2nd, How real do you want the game to be? Limited Hook? the character starts limping after a few gunshot? limited parachute and lets you fall to your death everytime you go to extreamly high places??? IF THEY MADE IT REAL, THE GAME WOULD BE FUN-LESS AND STUPID ..... because collecting HOOKS and PARACHUTE would be a PAIN and you had to restrain yourself in using it most of the time.



Anyway, I saw many forum people arguing that the game settings take place in Philipines... some say Indonesia and some said Malaysia...


But i can safely say that Malaysia definately got a part in it.. NOT BASED ON THE USE OF MALAY LANGUAGE on the places name kampung/gunung/dataran bla bla bla etc..[cause some might just say it is based on INDONESIA] ....

But the typical Malaysian slang ^^ .... when you hook some guy to the tree you can hear him speaking cantonese saying

"Hou lan tong ah" etc ... I remember theres a "LAN" word somewhere

sometimes you can even hear some guy say "WALAO"

When u jump on top of a women car you can hear her saying "SIAO, You siao is it SIAO, Better go back mental institution SIAO!" <-- With the typical Malaysian Chinese AUNTY ACCENT perfectly conveyed.

In the 1st place i saw a man can stand still on flying plane, move bumping car and parachute+hook , WTH!! +the Ai in this game....haih can fly summore if shoot many time. if the game more like far cry or crysis with 3rd P.S. then it fine with me. Not good la, we must tighten seatbelt in moving car/plane, not stand on it, if police catch u,sure got saman cost Rm300.

On another note, I LOLed really hard after hearing where I had to go for the first Ular Boys mission.



The accents they have is great but not really accurate, Ular is pronounced 'you-lar' instead of 'oo-lar'

Who bothers driving when you have that sweet-ass parachute and grapple? Most of my playtime so far was spent gliding all over the place.

Why u all complain... it already hard to have a good PC games out, u should be grateful this game got PC port.

I spent heaps of time getting on some gorv helicopter and shoot the hell of everyone, rambo style.

I thought this game is Malaysia, because i saw KLCC alike, but they change it to casino tower. lol

Metro 2033 is also a good game, i love it, because i have good graphic card.

got 1 time, when i driving my car, i accidentally bump into civilian even thought is *wee* little bump into him, and he died. I lol at first, then suddenly got alarm.. wtf alert level 1! Suddenly got many military cars and heaps got enemy surrounding me.. after that incident, i take helicopter, cause air no traffic jam and no civilian, free roaming sky.. sweet~

I am saving my money to unlock helicopter..... also they should have not put unlimited rockets and ammo on gov heli. lol
