Yellowish within how many years? If within first 1-2 years then something is wrong, should go back and check with your optometrist.

My spec is 4 yrs old( bought in 2015) , the lens turned yellowish and the coating layer starts to fade away, should I get a new pair of spec? In fact, I only wear the spec for 2 yrs, because I kept the spec for 2 yrs before I started to wear it since 2017 ..I went to a shop today, the optometrist told me that new spec takes about a week... Since my power is quite high, I can't live without spec.... So, I am thinking of getting a new pair of spec...

Usually branded lenses comes with some sort of paper box, can ask the shop to prove the lenses are genuine.

May be glass type lenses will turn yellow slower, thinner but heavier and easier to break. Coating damage can be due to frequent harsh scrubbing.

Thinking of getting a substantial pair of aviator-style glasses in KL, any suggestions? I've got amblyopia and hyperopia in my left eye and astigmatism in my right; I'm also color-blind and have aeropia. Not a good combo, hahaha.

Thinking of going bespoke but hardly hear about bespoke frames in Malaysia. No one I knows has one. I know there is a Tom Davies store in the Gardens (eyecon). Anyone can shed some thoughts if you've used them? What's the price range like?

I previously had a same thought of getting bespoke pair from Tom Davies, the full custom made pair can easily cost you at least 4k and that is for the frame only. So I ended up getting Limited Edition TVR x Rainmaker with the highest end Tokai lenses.

For TD, there are a couple of level of customisations, from least custom (if not mistaken 2.8k) to full custom (4k++++ and beyond). Least custom one, you can only choose from their ready to wear range and they will custom your fitting and measurements. Full custom, you can build the frame from scratch.

If you want my advise, i suggest you to get high quality handmade japanese frame and pay extra attention to lenses. Get high end, high quality freeform Rx lenses made in japan with the best coating (e.g: tokai, seiko, nikon, pentax)

Do you by any chance know a ballpark estimate of the price of glasses pairs from Iconic Lab?

It ranges from 1.5k and above depending on the frame/brand and type of lenses. They are on the high side, but really worth it. You will appreciate the quality of each handmade frame and top notch customer service. Look for Esther, she is a handmade eyewear aficionados.

Dang, aight, thanks. How about Paris? Iirc they have a wide selection of frames too, right? I'm thinking of getting a mediocre-frame aviator glasses with a higher quality glass, if that's possible.

Pa**s has more variety, and you can find many common brands on their shelves too e.g: Tom Ford, Oakley, Ray Ban etc....while i****c lab is specialised in Japanese Handmade eyewear only. You can get the real RayBan aviator frame, then fit with a good Rx lenses. What is your budget like? If you have huge allocation, then maybe you can consider first or second tier lenses from Tokai/Nikon/Seiko (their top tier all made in Japan). If you are on a limited budget, i highly recommend Hoya with HVLL coating as it comes with 2 year’s warranty, or you may want to consider Asahi-Lite, least known brand name with very big reputation. Asahi, together with Mitsui company are the inventor of many high-index lenses and surprisingly they are the lens blank manufacturer for Zeiss. Pa**s has wider range of lenses too, they even bring younger-optic (another least known US brand with high reputation).

Thanks for the information. My budget is around RM800. Should I consider Seiko/Hoya? I do think I'll look for a Ray-Ban aviator frame.

Is that allocation for both frame and lenses or just a frame? I’m not sure how much is RayBan aviator would cost you, but with that budget i think Asahi UV3G lens fits your budget. Better HEVL protection compared to those blue reflection coating stuff, and almost similar performance as Tokai Lutina. Less yellowish with regular green reflection (instead of annoying blue). Check/PM with Hunakadoo, he probably able to workout on something with your budget.

Note : I’m not affiliated with any optical stores and neither practicing optometry nor optical store owner. Just a regular guy who has passion for eyewear.

For both frame and lenses. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I do prefer a greenish tint over any other color.
