Hi, I'm looking for a 52 inch TV for my new TV room setup. I think 52 inches is large enough as the sofa is about 12' away from the wall that I will mount the TV to. I would rather get an LCD as I'm weary of burn-in on plasmas and apparently, its not covered in the warranty. Also, the new LEDs look great, but are too expensive. I'm willing to spend up to around MYR16,000. I also would like to get a nice looking home theatre system (preferably a sleek looking one, like the ones Sony offer).
Do you guys recommend any TV in particular? The Sonys and Samsungs I've looked at are nice, but the Sony TVs seem much more expensive. Also, any ideas on the home theatre? I think a 5.1 system should suffice.
Thanks! smile.gif

P.S. I will be attaching my Astro (max) set top box, DVD player (component), possibly PS3 if I decide to move it downstairs and tape player (I have a lot of tapes XD). If there are any promotions which will give me free stuff e.g. Blu Ray player/PS3, home theatre system etc I would appreciate you informing me of them!

with your budget you can get the 55" LED Backlit LCD . Still got balance cash. Should be less than 14K now.

for 15k...to get best PQ...I'll go for Pioneer 50" KRP-500M.
All the worried about burn in are none issue to me on my 508XG with hours of Astro playing and watching 2.35:1 movies.....no problem at all.

It was for both (if that's reasonable). I went to a Samsung shop and found a nice deal on their 7 series 52 incher. 13k for the TV with a surround sound set, extra 22inch LCD (rather odd to give someone a free TV with a TV), some wireless adapter (no idea if it is for the TV or a computer) and a HDMI cable. Sound good?

I haven't yet seen the surround sound speakers or tested them.

What do you guys think?

Don't recommend on Samsung HTIB. Better go for other brand like Sony or Panasonic for HTiB

Home Theater In the Box.

Wireless adapter is to receive picture or movie sent from a computer.

Oh cool, so it's a bit like streaming a video via my PS3 from my PC. TBH it sounds a bit gimmicky. I might just ask for an extra discount of its RRP and let them keep it.

Rather spend 16k on project. If tv is the way to go, spare 16k for poineer plasma as commented by taukeh mpyw.

Top up and get 60" plasma. Samsung has reliability issue. Sony is the same too.

I'm not interested in a projector, its an open room which has lots of natural light, not a cinema. Also, why is it that plasma TVs apparently don't suffer from burn in anymore, yet they still will not cover it in the warranty? That's the main reason why I won't buy a plasma.

From the information I've gathered and visualising the space I have, anything more than 55 inches will be too big. So any suggestions on surround sound speakers that don't look ugly and are somewhat decent?

KRP-500A would also be a good choice and also the last ever production unit model available from Pioneer. At least you can still have a chance to get it before it becomes extinct. Pioneer has ceased it's production of Plasmas completely. Technology wise ok but business wise is unprofitable.
