After upgraded to 3.1.2, it only took 2 minutes to "Blackra1n" my 3GS.
However, it took a longer time to download the Cydia (due to speed of my WiFi). However, within 45 minutes, I have Jailbroken my 3GS with 3.1.2 and Cydia installed.

Check this link to Enable Tethering --> http://www.iphoneheat.com/2009/10/how-to-e...phone-os-3-1-2/

MyWi is a paid app BUT if you read the last statement -->

"MyWi is a paid App. You can keep it by paying $9.99.
or
There’s a trick that SSH into your iPhone and delete Rock and MyWi from applications folder. Then ReSpring your iPhone. Even after the reboot, Tethering will be available in your iPhone."

Have fun!!

If not mistaken blackra1n works on 3.1.2 only.
So, you must first upgrade to 3.1.2, then, run the blackra1n...

thanks smile.gif

I just upgraded to 3.1.2 (3Gs), once after installing Cydia where I can see "Cydia" icon on my screen it still not jailbroken yet.. Did I missed out any configuration part? Sorry this is my first time using Blackra1n... Please advise*Sorry with all the beginner questions*  blush.gif
*
What do u mean still not Jailbroken?
After you run the Blackra1n application on your PC/Mac, you will see "Blackra1n" app on your iPhone. Thus, yr iPhone is "Already Jailbroken".
After installing Cydia, you will see the Cydia icon on yr JB phone.

it won't work.
Apple has stopped signing 3.1.2 firmware files on their server.

Once you go up, you can't come down.
*
There is some sites which you can download 3.1.2 ipsw file.
Save to the computer and restore from there.

@edoras
why don't you try restore your phone to 3.1.2 on a 3Gs and see, it won't work.
*
I don't see a need for that restore because it will be a hassle for me to JB it again.

and the steps are definitely not that easy compared to what you are advocating just previously. Shift+Restore anyone?

just to state the obvious,
you need to modify the host files as well as having SHSH on cyida to successfully restore

its not and definitely not the same thing like what we can do previously by just entering into DFU mode and do the Shift+Restore thing. (which conveniently is what you were talking about just now.) smile.gif
*
Hmmm... I thought its gonna be a straight forward thing... Its no longer that easy, eh?

Guys, need some pointers here.

My friend just got her iPhone 3GS from US and she accidentally upgraded it to 3.1.3.

Anyways to get it jailbroken and unlocked? I've tried all the possible ways I can find on google but still, unable to jailbreak it. Any ways to even downgrade it back to 3.1.2 and JB again and all?

Added on February 7, 2010, 2:39 amBtw, my friend's one is iphone 3gs 05.12.01 baseband.
*
Your friend is very unlucky because there is NO way we can downgrade an iPhone 3GS fw 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 for now. The baseband is destined to be 05.12.1 .
No JB and no Unlock solution. sad.gif

As expected. Just thought perhaps someone would have at least a way.

Anyhow, how long you think they'll come out with a JB and unlock solution for 3.1.3??
*
Most probably Geohot or the Dev Team will not do anything for 3.1.3. They will wait for the new 4.0 or when the new iPad is out.

I just go to settings there and do a "erase all contents and settings" , after that iphone cant boot up, it shows a picture to connect to iTunes.
when i plug into iTunes, it asks me to restore. But cant restore back to 3.1.2, it must auto update to 3,.1.3  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

If you see the picture to connect to Tunes, most probably its in the DFU mode. And if you have JB using Blackra1n before, try to connect to the computer and run Blackra1n again. Erase all contents and settings will not erase your firmware.

Wrong!
If its a picture with the cable and itunes, it is restore mode and not DFU.

and when you erase all contents and settings, it literally mean erasing everything including the firmware.

@Edoras, try that on your 3gs if you may.
Sorry, my bad.

im sure if you search on google there's alot of guides on how to cleanup ikee virus. try that first instead of restoring right away.

and make sure to change your default password of alpine to something else.

Please read the post by red-queen.....(see below) Did you try that already?

QUOTE(red-queen @ Feb 8 2010, 12:31 AM)
the day 3.1.3 was officially launched, apple stop signing the ECID's for 3.1.2

in order to restore back to 3.1.2, you need to have your ECID signed by apple, then you'll use umbrella to host a TSS server to intercept iTunes connection so that they will lookup your SHSH file locally. or you can also cahnge your host file to point to cydia so that iTunes can verify the SHSH against Cydia's copy of your ECID. Then only can you restore back to 3.1.2

on 3/2/2010 was the cut off date tolet Saurik help you sign it. so unless you have previously let cydia hold a copy of your SHSH file, else there's no way that you can restore your phone to 3.1.2

i was rather unlucky as i got my phone on the day 3/2/2010 around 10pm. i rushed home to jb and sent in a request for Saurik to sign my ECID. unfortunately, i couldn't make it. hence i have to be careful and not screw up my phone now else i'll have to go 3.1.3 sad.gif
