i've tried out papago m7 and tomtom for mal+sg on iphone.
Tomtom needs address, papago can search by building/business name. tomtom gui MUCH responsive and easy on the eye. papago SLOW and quite messy/too much info on screen. papago got tons of local poi, tomtom nothing one. so feature wise, i pick papago, but for fast and easy to use, i go for tomtom. so should i get a dedicated gps device oh yeah papago got many voices, tomtom not so muh. Added on November 6, 2010, 4:55 pm^above all, i dunno whether tomtom/papago got wider map coverage detail. This post has been edited by momusu: Nov 6 2010, 04:55 PM |

tried papago new map just now,
they fixed the font problem, even more POI now, map view are better now, overall better... Using experience wise, 1st time papago lead me into one way road, but no big deal, coz it is just taman road. compare with tomtom, bring me to highway and ask me to u-turn =.=" I am in penang though, maybe can't compare user experience with those people in KL. |

QUOTE(AaronWong @ Nov 6 2010, 08:59 PM) 1. Get the map from Malfreemaps2. Install the map in your pc. you will get folder MFM-PPG-101104C 3. Go into the folder MFM-PPG-101104C 4. Rename: MapAniPOI.psu to MapAniPOI.psz MapAniPOI_VGA.psu to MapAniPOI_VGA.psz standard.mb6 to Standard.mb6 standard_L.mb6 to Standard_L.mb6 Papago.dbp to papago.dbp 5. SSH to folder //var/mobile/Applications/BD253E2D-AF6D-4FE3-B553-AF58B17732F7/PPG!SGMYPRO.app/Navi/Maps in your iphone *im not sure if the code BD253... is same with other device* 6. Copy the folder MFM-PPG-101104C to this folder in iphone Now if you open papago you can choose new map in settings > map switch |

I never believe using a phone as an GPS alternative... Get a get proper GPS unit of any brands to conserve the battery for phone functions and services.
GPS is so affordable nowadays and it is no longer a luxury to have an unit stuck to the windshield. |

Its true, however for people who does not use it everyday, it is not a necessity to get one. GPS is so affordable nowadays and it is no longer a luxury to have an unit stuck to the windshield. I believe most of the people here use it probably once a week or lesser than that, having GPS on phone does come in handy when we need it. |

For the PPG map update on non-JB phones, just be patience guys, the update will appear on itunes eventually. since we have been waiting this long after all, no harm in waiting a little bit more. Patience is after all, a virtue.
As for the stand-alone GPS vs phone GPS, both devices also have their own pro and cons, just a matter of how much usage is involved. |
