Hey, I would like to check on few things as I will go to Langkawi this Sunday:

1) Will it be difficult to look for food that time as is still in raya holiday?
2) How's the weather during this time?
3) Still got the jelly fish? Which beach should I go to avoid that?
4) Understand the Pulau Payar is closed for snorkelling, any other recommended island can I go for snorkelling?

Thank you in advance for the help...:-)

smile.gif Actually the issue of jelly fish is overblown! I an a scuba diver and have dived around the islands, Pulau Singa, Pulau Tepur, Pulau Segantang, Pulau Chepu etc. The only jelly fish I meet are those not dangerous ones. You have to look out for the Portugese Man-Of-War where their tentacles are very long but rare in these parts. These are the ones that killed a kid a few years ago. It happened in Pantai Tengah and the first aid given was bad and the hospital staff was slow!

Still, just be careful.

tongue.gif  That place is not very well maintained and now in a dilapidated state. It is nearTelaga Harbor Park in Pantai Kok. At the junction near the beach, the right goes to Berjaya and Burau Bay, take the left and it is only 100 metres after the turn on the right. Look for some old looking wooden structures.

PS.  It was made for a set in a scene from a movie so it was never meant to be permanent.  whistling.gif

Anyone stayed at Perdana Beach Resort before? I did find some references on this thread but no actual report. It's relatively cheap at ~RM250 per night, can't afford Pelangi anymore biggrin.gif

Just back from Langkawi.
Stayed at Azio Hotel for RM85 per night. New hotel located in Kuah. Just like Tune Hotel but with towels, air con, tv provided.

Rented an illegal car. Madza 3. RM100 per day.

Went island hopping. Booked from an agent at Kuala Perlis jetty. Very risky tho. But luckily he did not cheat. Very cheap. RM35 per person. Can even book hotel, car rental from him over there also.

Ate at Teo Seafood, Wonderland Food Store and Wan Thai.
Wonderland provided a very good service.

Hi! I need some help/suggestions here. My mom and I are going for a trip to Langkawi this coming Dec (this is the 1st time my mom and I traveling together, so it is really a big deal wub.gif ) We are going to book a hotel at Bella Vista Langkawi (because of the price, the beach and the location.. I think). Can anybody tell me whether it is better to rent a car for the 4 D3N experience or just hail a cab from place to place (in term of $$ and convenience) coz from what I read, the hotel is in Kuah Town which has lotsa cab driving pass the hotel (right?)
And can you guys suggest the must see places that we might really have to see (Island hopping, scuba diving, snorkelling etc are out of the questions .. my mum is turning 63 this year flex.gif ) and any other recommendations / suggestions about anything are highly appreciate too.

Thanks in advance notworthy.gif

blush.gif Hotel Bella Vista (used to be called Tiara Hotel) has no beach and it is hard to get a taxi there as the location is off the main road. You have to take a turn into a small road off the main road to get to the hotel although it is visible from the main road. The rates are cheap, yes but it is one of the most unpopular hotel in Langkawi. During LIMA they are the one that still have rooms after all are full!

My recommendation is City Bayview if it is in Kuah. The rates are only RM140 per night. Quite a bargain for a four star hotel. If that is still too high, there are Baron Hotel, Citin Hotel and also Condo Istana. Just some pointers! smile.gif

Thanks for the info ettige Will consider trying one of those hotels mentioned. (maybe will ask uncle Google first rolleyes.gif )

Here is the official site for Bella Vista : http://www.bellavista-langkawi.com/accommodations.php

"Stunning views, coupled with an orchestra of soft waves rushing to meet the shore, soothes the mind and helps relieve the body of tension. But the hotel doesn’t leave anything to chance and has furnished its 228 luxurious guestrooms with modern amenities for those relaxing moments. After all, these moments are what great holidays, family vacations, and romantic getaways are made of."

-A quote from their website.. The very FIRST line actually. Are they trying to mislead potential guest by saying this? doh.gif Or are they simply suggesting the beaches are in view but not in their property? rclxub.gif

Bella Vista was built on reclaimed land and they filled the sea with soil rather than sand , imagine the silt and mud. The tiny, puny beach is just a patch of the seaside filled with a few lorry loads of sand to cover the mud. The first management was a failure until they were taken over by Danaharta.

Landmark (The Datai and Andaman) was supposed to manage the hotel but due to a dispute between the owners and management (the owners forbids the sale of liquor but the mangement insists on them). Finally Landmarks gave up even after they bought a plot of land beside it. The owner, Syed something then operated the Hotel himself.

Again that was many years ago but maybe the mangement is better now but I am sure there is no beach, at least no natural beach. Other multi starred hotel in Kuah is the Westin (formerly Sheraton, not be be mistaken with Sheraton Beach).

bro, if you really good in manage it u can handle your self. book at least 2 or 3 month before the date. book return bus and also book the resort. let resort know what u guyz doing there. ask the resort for personal number for the car renting. i did see bus in airport. its confirm for rent. how many pax will go there? i definitely suggest langkapuri inn ( im not promoting them okay haha) if u book more than 5 room can get good discount. so if u wanna earn in this trip u can do it. like i did last time for my 30 pax ex schoolmate. reunion in langkawi AB motel. but i book 5 month early coz we using transnasional bus to kuala perlis and return to kl. lazy to use those bas sekolah. more cheaper if i use normal express bus. than i ask agent for car renting. and we rent 3 hiace jumbo van. fit 30 of us smile.gif but sad ab motel no breakfast. anyway they help us with all the games that we conduct at the beach and we also got good price for island hoping, cable car and van rental from them also. google and try call them

plan your own trip so that you can be flexible. Do not need to be tied down by the travel agent.
