Rm 25 is not inclusive of the pinggan shape souvenir. It cost RM 8 without the stand tongue.gif
*
Ha,ha,ha, the pinggan ! Actually it cost only RM1.50 stick a transparent layer with your photo it becomes RM10. Now it's only RM8.00. Competition must be great.

The operators will snap your photos when you are disembarking from the bus, when you are on the way to island hopping and develop the photos. They will stick it to the 'pinggan' and hope that you will buy. When you refused or missed it, they tear it out again and throw away the photo.

Sorry that you didn't enjoy your trip! I have been staying there for 13 years and the excitement is getting less and less. Getting too commericalise nowadays. When tours are conducted in a big way like P.Payar, services and conditions of the tourist attraction degrade, big time.

Chocolates are cheapest in Jetty Point because Jetty Point is owned by Chocolates Product Malaysia. They sometimes undercut others to garner volume. Teoh Soon Huat is a locally owned department store.

Anyone stay in Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort before? Any comment?
*
I have before but that was years ago. Sheraton always maintain a standard when the managed hotels so I don't think it will be bad. The rooms are mostly timber (built also by Ekran Holdings, owner of Langkasuka and Delima Resorts) and you need buggy to go to your room or a walk. Pool is OK, beach is beside, Black and Henry's Pub is good.

What is the liqour price per bottle there ? example JD or BL ?? can i bring two bottle with one open and 1 not since i'm travelling there with my girlfriend for 4D3N ??
*
One person entitled to 200 sticks of cigarettes and 1 litre of liquor ( most liquor are 1 litre sizes over there anyway ) so you don't have to open one, you can bring both out unopen. Be sure to keep your ferry tickets or flight tickets to prove that you are on the island at least 48 hours.

If you don't want to argue, you can show your Mycard to the customs officer (at the departure side of the jetty) and ask the officer to stamp the ferry tickets after showing your Mycard. With that stamp the customs can't argue with you, like they sometimes accuse you of using other person's tickets. Normally it doesn't happen though.

There's one vodka named ' Belvedere thumbup.gif '. It costs almost RM200 for 1 litre there and I see them here costing over RM200 for 35cl bottle.

But don't ever buy DOM as the price is almost the same as mainland, price difference is only extra 25cl for Langkawi. Don't buy Marlboro Lights and Dunhill and also Hennesy Blue Label, too many fakes!

so how bout jack daniel's ?? my gf crazy about it lo... how much does it cost per 1L?? and do they have fake MildSeven? hope not... rclxms.gif

Normally Dunhill and Marlboro Light. Easy to spot also, if a carton of Dunhill costs RM3 to RM4 cheaper, something fishy liao! Cordon Bleu is also a popular one to get fake. Too many drinkers so a lot of empty bottles. They usually take an original and pump half into another empty bottle. Fill up both with cheaper brandy and seal back. Also brandy mah! can mabuk also.

The hotel beside Pelangi , Casa Del Mar is also not bad. It's a boutique hotel so not many occupants. More privacy! Langkawi Lagoon is also OK.

Have you tried Amarulla coconut liquor? thumbup.gif But one man's meat is another man's poison though.

Teo seafood, Wonderland food or Orchid Ria Seafood?
Which is better? Price about the same for the 3?
*
I personally prefer Orchid Ria, actually food is tastier and cheaper than Teo Seafood. Wonderland ( Ah Toon ) is value for money kind of place. Very popular among locals as he is a local Hainanese. Seafood is fresh but not as tasty as Orchid but he's very much cheaper. His location is nicer too just beside the sea (actually a canal but linked to the sea).

QUOTE(McCabePlace @ Apr 25 2010, 11:03 PM)
Actually I find Wonderland very expensive. The last time I was there end of last year, Wonderland seemds to be closed for the nearly one week I was there.  I banned Wonderland after just one meal coz the same meal and tasting much better, I got it for about 50% of Wonderland's price at Kauboi, which is next door.

My mum wanted to try Wonderland after all the hype about it. The Tomyum soup is omg...taste like tomato soup!  Trust me, Kauboi is much better. I always go there (like 3-4 times a year coz I just love that place), in fact nearly every night when I am at LGK.

I even pre-order some of the pricier seafood from KL before I go and the prices are so reasonable.  The brother of the owner is a fisherman and he gets fresh seafood supply nearly every morning.  On average, a meal for 4 adults with a 1kg large prawn tomyum soup, a large fish, or chien, 3 to 4 roe crabs, one vege dish, mango kerabu, sotong or lala dish and mantis prawn costs about RM120 to RM150 depending on the seasonal price of the crabs. Got rice and herbal drink also. All these used to be less than RM100 a couple of years ago but now what also increased jor.

Fresh lobster at Kauboi was RM120 for about 1kg (must pre-order) whereas this Wonderland's frozen lobster was RM150/kg!  Then they didn't know how to cook lobster or was trying to cook it in a way to cover its non-freshness!

Can't wait for my coming trip!  drool.gif
*
Everything's changed now..................sigh.
I never liked Wonderland's food but it was cheap and one thing malays eat there too as the whole cluster of eateries and the next one are all pork free as required by MDL. Kauboi's partner Ah Toong is the nephew of one of the biggest seafood supplier in Langkawi, probably that's why he is cheaper. Since Wonderland is also expensive now, they must have adopted the two tiered pricing, tourist and locals.

Hi again all sifu ~ after reading and getting some advise from here and there so we have near to finalize our itry for the trip and need some last few touch up help from sifu here ~

travelling period 3th May - 6th May 4D3N
Day 1
1130Hrs - Arriving at Jetty
1145hrs - bargain for car (hopping to get Rm40 x 3 days for a kancil dunno can or not)
You can try your luck but I doubt so, LOL
1230hrs - Check in Holiday Villa Resort (any know how long to drive there from jettty?) It is quite far from jetty to Holiday Villa which is Pantai Tengah.
1330hrs - Lunch (pls reco)
You should have your lunch in town before going to the beach to check in. More variety! There's a nice malay food there called Sinaran Restaurant. Look for Bank Islam and the shop is in front of it. Or Water Garden, this is a coffee shop. If you prefer Thai food there is WanThai in Pesiaran Bunga Raya which is near Kamdar and Idaman Suri(famous for cookware shopping)

1430hrs - underwater world + stock up for beers, liqour, choc & cigi from duty free shop there
Might as well do the ciggy and liquor shopping in town. Wawasan is around town.

1715hrs - Back to hotel lazy/bath and walk walk around beach/pool
1900Hrs - Dinner at kuah town @ Orchid Restuarant (budget Rm60 per couple enough?) More than enough!

2100Hrs - Back to hotel to rest early
Day 2
0800Hrs - Breakfast at hotel, Inclusive
0845hrs - back to room & get ready
0930hrs - Island Hopping (not sure how long it takes estimate finish at 3hours)

The beach at Holiday Villa is OK too.

2000hrs - ????? pls advise ??? good bar??
Black and Henry Pub in Sheraton Beach

Day 3

can try the other restaurants like kauboi as one forummer said or go back to Orchid and try other dishes or Wan Thai for Thai food.

You didn't fit in Eagle feeding/mangrove tour in your itinery.

Thanks etigge for the usufull advise,

Revised below changes...and some question (sorry to be so annoying tongue.gif )

Kancil budget Rm50 x 3days = Rm150 (should be ok right?)
yes, maybe can upgrade better car if not peak period.

Lunch at town before c/in (is Water Garden western food? how to get there?)
Drive along the road, pass a mosque on the left and pass a bridge. Lookout tothe right for fire station. Just after fire station turn right. You can see Bayview Hotel from here.  CIMB BAnk, Malayan Banking and RHB Bank is on this road. After RHB Bank and Camel turn right. Wawasan and Haji Ismail Group is on the right and near the junction you can see Water Garden. Sinaran Restaurant and Bank Islam is on the left.

Shopping for liquor + Ciggy + beer + choco (i thought someone say duty free shop at / near underwarter world is the best?)
I don't know about now but during my stay, I find Wawasan's prices is the lowest.

night life - Black & Henry pub @ sheraton beach (any idea it open till?)
They close at a certain time but you can call drinks just before they close and sit on the varendah outside by the pool.

3rd day dinner @ kauboi (also at kuah town right?)
Can try it out as one forummer suggested.

2nd, 3rd & 4th day lunch dunno wan to go where eat le ~
Your tummy will know when you are there. LOL

Diner for 2 person expected to have lobster + mantis prawn + 1 vege + 1 fish/chicken = Rm60 (more than enough sure?)
I never tried lobster before (allergic) but the money you saved fromearlier meals can cover back.

hope to hear from you soon and thank you so much  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Hey guys, posted this question earlier but here it is again. Please enlighten me.
"What is there to do at night? I know there are daily night markets there, worthwhile? And Pantai Cenang nightlife, what else can you do at night time?"

As for me, I practically do nothing at night except having drinks and lepak.

If the price of car rental has gone up, is the TS able to edit the info on page 1. It will help answer alot of car rental questions here.
I'm been stalking this thread for a while, planning my trip.

Based on the recommendations here on seafood:
Kauboi Restaurant (next to Teo Seafood Restaurant in Jln Padang Matsirat?)
Kauboi is just beside Wonderland in Klana Mas clusters of commercial premises. 5 minutes walk to Teo Seafood and also Orchid Restaurant.
user posted image

Orchid Ria Restaurant (in Jln Pantai Cenang, near Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort)
This is different from the Orchid I mentioned. This Orchid Ria also have nice food but a bit touristy. The Orchid in Kuah used to belong to them but they have since sold off to another, that's why the name is the same.

Rootian Seafood Restaurant (89 Jalan Pandak Mayah 5, Kuah Town)
This guy claims to be working for 'Lou Teen' in Loke Yew but after a while of hassling he denied it eventually. My in-laws stays in Loke Yew Flats so I know. His food is so-so only and a bit on the expensive side. His location is the winner actually. His wife is related to the owner of Water Garden, hence the location.
user posted image

This little gem is not known by many. It called Yong Loong. It is located near Teo Seafood and on the other side facing the main road. Just a few steps from Teo Seafood. Nice food also here and fair price. He is the brother of Fujimaru Sea Safari.

QUOTE(Putraskyline @ Apr 30 2010, 09:08 PM)
Then why go Langkawi for food? ohmy.gif
*
Maybe the seafood in Langkawi is the same or more expensive than Klang but I am very sure it taste better in Langkawi. I am an angler in Langkawi and I know the prawns there are not 'pukat tarik' prawns and they are 'pukat hanyut' type, meaning the prawns are caught when they are drifting in the sea and not squashed like the trawler nets. And normally they are served the next day it was caught and not like Klang where they are sold to middleman and then reseller and then market and then restaurants which is about 3 to 4 days old.

I have never consume any seafood since I am in KL, not fresh like Langkawi. In Langkawi, eats prwans with the least sauce like steamed and the taste of the prawns are nice. In Klang I have tried their steamed prawns and they don't taste fresh and they are good only with heavy tasting sauce which actually overwhelms the taste of prawn itself. whistling.gif

Another tip I can give is eat at restaurants like Orchid where you can choose your seafood. Walk up to their ice bin and choose the fish or prawns. If you see fishes all the same size, don't choose that. They are cultured fish, meaning sangkar ikan fishes. If you see uneven sizes then they are all fish in the sea manually(using pancing) and these taste better.

The ikan bawal putih (pak chong) are also locally netted. Teo Seafood specialises in 'Pek Chneoh Moi' or bawal porridge. Very nice there. He also specialises in 'Hoo Tow Bi Hoon' and normally barracudda is used and not 'soong yee' like in KL. Very nice actually in Teo's Seafood, thumbup.gif

last min question !!! going tomorrow morning  rclxm9.gif

1) What is the average price per adult for island hopping?
Usually they charge by boat. Averagely about RM40 plus minus RM10 depends on the boatload.

2) Does island hopping include eagle feeding ?
No, eagle feeding is part of mangrove tour and on different part of the island.

3) What is the average price per 1L Jack daniel?
This you have to ask someone else, LOL, been away from the island too long.

Thanks & will contribute once i return from langkawi rclxms.gif
