There are only a very few games that are optimized for 50Hz (running on 50Hz but same speed as 60Hz), Shining Force 3 is the first one comes to mind. Can always mod your MD to 60Hz, it doesn't sound too complicated actually but I never tried tongue.gif
*
Done some research and to mod a PAL MD to NTSC MD (with region as well), it will need to play around with some switches and soldering points (ala Gamecube). The thing is the PAL MD will now output 60HZ NTSC in only black and white, and the other mod for the NTSC colour looks quite complex with perintang and a crystal quarts thingy. To bypass the colour issue, you can use the MD SCART output (which I don't have and my TV does not support) and use a SCART converter back to RCA (which also I don't have)

sad.gif

Time to hunt for a NTSC JAP or US MD then...

I haven't actually seen an actual SCART cable or a TV with SCART port before. Where to hunt this elusive cable and the RCA converter.....

Almost all the MD I see output via RF, seen some MD2 output RCA but with mono sound (White and yellow) only

OMG, Sonic Game Gear! The 1st time I saw it, I couldn't believe it can play as well as it does on the go. My only previous exposure to Gameboy was the game "Probotector". So seeing a portable system with colour screen was mind boggling! Some games, like Bare Knuckles suffered in the port, but still played great. Do you have the power adapter for GG, or are you running on batteries only?
*
Running on 6 AA batteries. I tried to put my MD2 adapter but it seems the head is much bigger (cannot fit). It's Sonic 2 by the way.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hed...g_2_%288-bit%29

I have 2 more Game Gear cartridge (last bible (JAP) and a mahjong game (JAP))

Isn't Probotector = Contra for the PAL UK market? They swap the Contra sprite to robots.

Maybe we wait a while and the games will turn up in Cash Converters smile.gif hahaha

The last batch of PS1 games I think were from the original PS shop in Sungai Wang last time.

But the result is quite satisfying, although there are some errors on horizontal lines (like missing scanlines near the top). Can't think of any other solution to capture image with scanlines.

Prefer the one with scanlines, jaggies not that noticeable.

On another note ...
This is what I managed to get in Singapore =)

Whoa, you transformed the stick to look like that? I have a Hori Stick SS (Sega Saturn) that I bought 2nd hand, looks pretty much like that as well. Probably 12 years old ago when it was bought by the original owner. The directional input works fine, but the Z and Start button are easily jammed in. You think a mod job might be able to fix that? But then I'll need to find that small Start button, won't I?
*
You need to check the buttons diameter if it can fit it Sanwa / Seitmitsu buttons (3 cm / 30mm). If you can work a solder iron you should be able to mod it (which I suck at, a lot of solder blobs here and there smile.gif ). As for the start button how big is it ? you have a picture ? If the start button is the same as the arcade 1P, 2P button then it should be easy to find.

Amazing!!! drool.gif

Thanks. But after the mod, I can't close the back casing since the Sanwa Stick is much taller than the stock Hori stick. Malas to cut the extra plastics plus I don't have a dremel. Also my bad soldering skills and wire management make closing it impossible as well. There is a about a 1cm gap between the bottom base plate and the joystick, (use some cardboard as filler at the bottom.

How you managed to get the Sega Genesis to be region mod ? Was it a stock Jap/ US NTSC ?

Heard that PAL version if modded you get black and white if you put in NTSC mode ?

Very interested as I have a couple of PAL machine =)

My MegaDrive is originally a NTSC-J unit, the previous owner stupidly modified it to be PAL-J which is a non-existent region. This leads to a few game being unplayable.
I followed this guide to add the region switches to my system. This allows me to freely set my console to be NTSC-J, NTSC-U, PAL-E and PAL-J (nonexistent). I can switch between NTSC and PAL even while the console is on.

I did not encounter the the black and white screen issue. I don't know if this is because the previous owner modified it before, or because it doesn't apply to my system or if my TV could accept the weird signal.

Just follow the first guide first, it's quite simple if you paid attention to Kemahiran Hidup class in Form 1-3, just 6 wires and 2 switches, no circuit boards. If you get that issue, follow this guide which is more complicated and requires a circuit board and a few electronic components.

Note that the guide only applies to the older MD1 (like mine). If yours is the newer MD2, you'll have to follow this guide. It's a lot more complicated though.
*
I see.

The mod only works for NTSC J or US machines. If you try on a PAL, you will get black and white if you switch to NTSC. This is due to the oscilloscope thingy for the PAL machine not able to match NTSC speed or something. You can get the details in Google. Long story short, for PAL machines, modding the wires with switches is not enough and you will need to change the crystal oscilloscope as well.

Is it difficult/expensive to get hold of arcade related stuff? I'm kinda tempted to walk into an arcade here and ask if they're willing to sell older stuff...

There is one guy selling in Singapore, maybe you can ask him smile.gif, selling around SGD 600 ~~ +- RM 1.5 k

Hello fellow collectors !

Just want to share with you all that i am very excited to received Nintendo NES (Asian Version)  rclxm9.gif . Previously to my understanding, Nintendo sold only FAMICOM in this region and i still own one. Further reading explain that they did release NES which has same form factor with US and Europe release here in Asia.

I received PM from a person here selling his uncle NES, requested a photos and to my amazement, his NES is the Asian Version. I do not think it's a rare item but for me the condition is quite ok (and better than Master System that i found in Mudah). Everything is emblem with 'made in japan, from controller, to adapter to rf cable embossed with nintendo of japan..

With little cleaning and polishing, i'll have it on my display in my gaming cave soon.

And also, need to find some good NES carts for display as well, not to play since i got most of it on Wii's VC wad.

If i am not mistaken all Asia territory outside of Japan (Europe as well) was sold NES varaint, as I have a few carts (NES form factor) but the sticker label states Asia Version which comes with a Chinese/ English manual sheet (HK version I think).

I have one with with the Pineapple computer stickers (on the same position of your sticker). Might be they were the regional importers at that time ? but then most of us grow up with Micro Genius
