Android is an operating system created by Google for mobile devices just like other OS for phones like Symbian, Windows Mobile, iOS for Apple. Although Android is quite new in the market but it's rapidly growing. 1.6 and 2.1 is just the version release for Android, the lastest is 2.2. SE will release an update for 2.1 later this month and if you buy the phone now, you'll be able to update it once it's being released.

Android is an OS based on Linux, so if you PC is infected by Windows virus, it won't infect your phone...

just rooted my X10 and installed Hot Reboot...wow...damn quick it reboots my phone....

Sure no problem,

1. Get the UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5.apk

2. Install it and run it.



Tap on Go Root and wait for a while, it will root your phone.

3. Once your phone is rooted, just go the Market and search for busybox. Install it, as a lot of rooted applications need this busybox.

Added on October 15, 2010, 2:19 pmDon't worry an AP set can be upgraded to an official 2.1 firmware from SE once they release it. As for 2.2 firmware, SE has not give out any announcement whether they will release this firmware for the X10 family. If you ask me although the X10 is running 1.6 at the moment, I'm totally happy with it. It's like having a PDA, gps, a simple game console and a phone with all the eye candy and the customization to my needs. Having a 4" screen with this kind of price, it's really a steal.

Unfortunately X10 does not support a video call because it doesn't has a second camera, the 3 little round thingy in front is not a camera. If video call is a must then X10 is not for you. IIRC Samsung Galaxy S has the second camera but the price is above 2k, that's why I bought the X10.

From what I read, firmware 1.6 only support up to 16Gb but 2.1 and above does support 32Gb...how much now 32Gb mSD?

yalor..16Gb is more than enough....

and all the gameloft games can be played....just watch SandstormHD trailer and it is awesome...first person shooter...

with firmware 1.6, you can't do that, only with firmware 2.2 you can install an application into mSD card, which the applications must have this feature.

seriously I find that ASTRO file manager is easy to use..

For gps, mostly are not free. For playing movies, I love rockplayer as it suppport most of the format. For music I'm using mediascape but I heard that Meridian player not bad too.

Just install Wikango a speed trap detector....don't know whether really works or not.

@bjmin, I'm still on 1.6, yes I can run papago x5 but the app is not stable. I like Sygic Mobilr 10, but the map is not complete like papago.

Dungeon Hunter has an apk that is specifically for x10.

@Sof_600, papago x5 is not free.

@bjmin, I got no problem with Talking Tom, I'm using the latest ver 1.2.1.

I think our x10 has some bug if using a 3rd party lock screen, I tried LockBot Pro lock screen, sometimes after I unlock using the LockBot, I have to unlock again using the default lock screen..

@FallenOut, so far I never encounter problems like yours but I'm not using dxTop lock screen anymore as it feels like iPong lah which I don't like (don't want my friends said try to copy iPong)...better use the original lock screen, feels really like Android...

@datteboy, so far x10 bootloader hasn't been hacked or cracked yet so you can't install any custom rom on it...

Goto Settings -> Sound & Display, make sure Phone vibrate is check.

What exactly that you don't know to use Beautiful Widgets?

How to uninstall an application : -

1. Go to Settings

2. Choose Applications then choose Manage applications

3. Scroll through the list of applications and select the application that you want to uninstall and tap on the Uninstall button.

If you're using dxTop Launcher, just Long Hold and release the icon of that application, and a pop up menu will appear, choose Application Info. Tap on the Uninstall button to uninstall it.

If you go to SE official forum, there are a lot of complaints regarding the soft volume problem and SE rep said they will solve this with the upcoming update.

As for GPS, I have 3 GPS apps install, i.e Sygic Mobile 10, NDrive and Papago X5. So far Sygic and NDrive is the most stable but lack of updated map. On the other hand Papago X5 has more updated map than the other two but is not stable, it will suddenly hang or freeze. I found out that Papago has updated their apps to X5.1 but I haven't try it yet.

good to hear papago x5 works great for you guys but for me 3 times I've tried and 3 times it hanged on me...
