QUOTE(MOUSEY @ Dec 6 2009, 01:04 AM) Conclusion: It works on 1.5 (Cupcake) version of Android. Tattoo is on 1.6 (Donut), I doubt you'd have anyway to get it up at the moment unless you go up to the extend of flashing it back to 1.5. As HTC ROMS is going Eclair (v2 Android) soon, I'm sure papago would need to release their software in par to support that. Return or not, it's up to you... just my dua sen... Tattoo can't use 1.5, because 1.5 only supports HVGA and 1.6 onwards supports non-HVGA screen! But I think since Papago 3.0 already supports tattoo, there should be a way to get a free upgrade later when the SEA version is updated to 3.0? |

I bought two android version from pcfair yesterday for my gf's and my magic. They have it running on a HTC Hero set. The map doesn't looks as nice as garmin but if it works, I don't mind. The map browsing is a bit slow with all the 3d building structures though.

QUOTE(MyWifeCar @ Dec 7 2009, 10:31 AM) Thanks bro for the feedback... I guess it will be a bit slow compare to pure GPS device. Sorry, I realized I did not finish the story. After I saw that the scrolling is a bit slow, I ask the guy how to turn off this 3d thing, because its tough la, if you seen the interface before, it can show the KLCC twin towers in 3d format. But anyway, thanks for sharing. At least we know now that it will have some performance issue on Hero. So after I turned off this 3d structures thing, then it becomes smooth, scrolling is smoother compared to garmin running on my samsung symbian. |

QUOTE(Remedy @ Dec 7 2009, 03:51 PM) have you tried this?http://www.papago.com.tw/Android_web/download.htm http://dl2.papago.com.tw/download/Papago/A...OO_20091125.rar 1. Need translation? I assume since both is X5, the serial number should be able to be used. |

QUOTE(Remedy @ Dec 8 2009, 10:01 AM) Maybe it work for taiwan folks but not us... or at least it doesn't work for me... or not compatible with MFM maps. I haven't installed yet mine on my magic, but a couple of things off head that I would have tried on your tattoo just based on the posts here:it can successfully launch the application just stuck in the x5 logo screen. 1. try to see if it can run with Taiwanese map? 2. someone said its font problem, change your tattoo to be Chinese Taiwan, then try see can run or not the papago. |

QUOTE(MyWifeCar @ Dec 8 2009, 07:13 PM) My question is can I use Taiwan map on SEA version x5? Because from "Unusual the mod" reply, it seems I will be running into problems... Looking at the way papago sells their software, I think you should be able to if you pay. Unless there's a taifreemaps.com |

QUOTE(Remedy @ Dec 10 2009, 03:55 PM) RM99 isn't a price too high to pay in support for papago to create this great software for us right? Why not just get the authentic version? Yeah, compared to Garmin which cost around RM400! This papago is cheap because its from Taiwan. I saw from some chinese forums, there are even navigation for china thats totally free, like google maps. |

QUOTE(ktsiang @ Dec 15 2009, 01:00 AM) I have tried it on my Tattoo, it only show the direction to me in 2D google map. It won't show me what we have seen in youtube since it has been blocked by google (only allowed in US only) and so far don't have any street view in Malaysia yet. >< Yeah, Malaysia doesn't have street view. When I tested, I went to London (in google maps, not physically) and view the street view over there, its quite cool actually. After you are in street view, just Menu->Compass ON, then hold the phone up vertically. I think its not that google blocks street view in Malaysia, its just they haven't done it here yet, since market here is small. Added on December 15, 2009, 9:02 am QUOTE(icycokes @ Dec 15 2009, 03:19 AM) just a wonder... is Papago X5 works with our built in digital compass? mine doesnt work.. it will be alot better if it WORKS! it would be so cool when you tilt the phone and the map follows So far I tested, it doesn't make use of the compass at all.One thing I notice is the difference in my HTC Magic's Compass compared to IPhone's. For my HTC Magic, I need to hold it up vertically (like when shooting a photo of pc fair girl), while I saw youtube of IPhone, you need to lay it down flat on the table. So, HTC Magic's compass will not be so useful for reading maps, but will be more useful during navigation. This post has been edited by kiwlm: Dec 15 2009, 09:02 AM |

QUOTE(buntutman @ Dec 15 2009, 06:45 PM) best part is, they navigate u, thru flyover . what happens if u dowan go flyover but u at bottom of flyover part ? google earth will fail u there. Hmm, from my experience of using Garmin for 1 year+, and very limited experience in using Papago for 1 week+, both of them never make use of the elevation from the GPS, meaning that they can't tell whether I am on which tier, even when using community map. Usually they will only realize after I go out from the place that have many tiers.malaysia got many place is 3 tier highway. LDP old motorala/sunway there oredi 3 tiers. 2 tiers also berlambak. Google earth confirm dun even know that kind of road exists. how to navigate u properly la when they dont even know how many tiers. So for this 1-2-3 tier thing, I would say google maps (its different from google earth, FYI), and community maps are the same. I agree with everything else you said. |

QUOTE(finch! @ Dec 30 2009, 02:25 AM) sometimes the lane assist screw up. u suppose to take left lane but it shows arrow to the right lane, and suddenly change to left lane so on n so forth. Hmm, haven't really encountered this before. But being too used to Garmin, I found that the map is "zoomed" too much in, sometimes I want to see when is the next turn, but because the map is zoomed so much in, I can only see straight road, the junction in the map comes too late. So now I turn off Auto Zoom, and I usually zoom out (press the - button) 5 times when I start navigating. |

QUOTE(finch! @ Jan 1 2010, 05:49 AM) u guys ever encounter the problem when ure on one road, suddenly the location indicator arrow jump to the other road beside? it's kinda frustrating. :| Just encountered this last weekend around Sogo Area. I also start to realize that the voice navigation cannot be 100% depended upon like Garmin's. Sometimes it shows me to turn left but the voice says turn right... zzz |

QUOTE(edex @ Jan 12 2010, 01:29 PM) Hmm the last time when I bought the papago during GPS, confirmed its not working on my gf's 1.6 magic, but I just checked the website againhttp://www.papago.com.tw/andsea/ IIRC the x5.1 wasn't there last time, will get my gf to test if that works on 1.6. |
