play alone for classical guitar sometimes is quite boring, usually i play classical part and my frenz will do the strumming when we are free.

Anyway guys i am thinking of getting a new guitar this weekend. Budget around RM500-700, but currently i am quite confused weather wanna get an acoustic guitar or a classical guitar. The thing is i already had an classical guitar so maybe would want to go for an acoustic guitar, but my classical guitar is kapok and the sound isn't really nice even tho my dad bought it for me last time for RM800. So now quite confused weather to get a classical guitar or acoustic now, any suggestion?

Zencyc,

you start from Grade1 or start from Grade3 exam?

Destiny,
classical guitar will mainly to play classical music... normally didn't involve singing... Acoustic mostly for pop song strumming & plucking... depend on your need... if you play pop song more and prefer pop song then should go for Acoustic...

ya it's a Rm800 kapok, my dad was truly a legend for buying that. However despite of the sound quality and all the negative things about it. It is still my first guitar so i'm still precious it.

Anyway is there any recommendation for a decent classical guitar around RM500-800?

hmm... at this price range... i can only think about Farida brand... you can look around in The Guitar Store...

http://www.theguitarstore.com.my/

they are the sole distributor for Farida... btw, Farida is from China... but sound is quite good for budget classical guitar.

but my advice is, if you really serious in guitar, do invest a real good one. The sound of good guitar will improve over time. And there is a big different of sound between Solid Wood and Laminated Wood.

I tried La Patrie (from Canada) in The Guitar Store, that guitar is about RM1600++ and the sound is real solid... of course it is solid top. You can look for Steven in The Guitar Store in Damansara Perdana, he is a nice sales there...

When you want to buy a guitar, don't be shy to ask to try it. If they don't let you try, then don't buy from them.. haha

i see, but don't think i can fork up 1k + for a guitar since i'm still studying at the moment. Can't afford to spend too much of my pocket money on it cry.gif cry.gif .Feel quite guilty of spending too much of my parents money. So maybe i should just go for an acoustic guitar instead. Anyway do you all think that playing classical guitar is tougher than piano?

Learning classical guitar is tough, teaching is tough as well. I don't comment the piano coz i never learned it. But for beginner students, i think guitar students will suffer more, they may find it hard to press the string down and produce nice tone, complain their fingers sore and all that, a lot of problems.. I remember i took 2-3 months to get my F chord sounds right... hahaha.. really hard to learn barre.

Piano when one hand is ok,but when need 2 hands it is like using right brain and left brain....takes me a lot of times to master but in the end also forget all LOL

Playing guitar for a long time cause my left hand finger to bcm very thick and in that way didn't feel too much pain when having barre or single note

haha even until now i still find difficult of playing bar code. i prefer guitar for the reason that i don't know. Learn piano when i was very young before, but due to mental immaturity i quitted after grade 5. Then after a few years blank, i start to pick up classical guitar during form 5 time. But it seems really hard to find classical guitar sheet for pop song.
