50mm Usually is my best friend to shoot food.. large aperture = more lighting = faster shutter speed = no need flash kekeke.. but.. will hav to stand up to get a better angle.

& my friends will wait very impatiently for me to quickly finish taking so they can start makan! tongue.gif has bcome a trend when go out

Was looking 50 1.8 last few days, went to a shop in the curve and someone quoted me rm600 and the worst thing he said it is discounted price. I was like doh.gif and tell him sony retail rm599 and he said yes but the price discounted. Sad to see most of the shops in ikano, the curve, cineleisure do not carry sony lenses. Luckily went to OU and got the lens@reasonable price...I'll never go to that shop again sweat.gif . The new lens quite sharp at f2.5 onwards. CA control much better than my kit lens but 50mm abit too long. Next will be targeting 30mm macro smile.gif

clivengu: Two branches in Digital Mall PJ. biggrin.gif Yeah I visit Leos Trading sporadically.

SHOfrE3zE: It is known as the shop where I first met marushin... and he bought a cheap third-party flash back then. Can you imagine?

i have 2 questions.

1) is an m42 lense inferior in quality to sony/minolta/sigma lenses?

2) does the 'F' in a lense model (eg. 50mm f1.8) mean the aperture value?

thanks.

1)no..but it is more troublesome as u need to manually setup the focus n exposure...imo if u have all the time in the world to shoot slowly..then its ok..if u need to shoot fast like in those event...then no..

2)yes

i've slightly lengthen it a lil...lol..

i do have friend who is crazy about those manual lenses..keep buying all those lenses used for shooting video/movie(thats what he said)..and even lens from aircraft....and send it to china to modify it to m42 and use on his 5Dm2...he claims that those old/manual lenses beat our modern lenses easily...but well..im not that convinced yet.. blush.gif

lol.. when it comes down to manually focusing and adjusting exposure and all... is it that difficult to the degree its not worth it? or is it just a MINOR set back?

im not qualified to answer u yet..lol...

but i did try once..personally...i felt that..if u shooting constantly same exposure..with small room for errors(if found over/under exposed u can shoot again)...well its quite ok...u only need to adjust the focus..and change the exposure(shutter or aperture) once inawhile...but if ur exposure isnt constant..for eg some place brighter..den suddenly need to shoot darker places..keep changing blablabla..and u have no room for error(shooting event)..then probably u wanna use a auto lens instead...

Mikeshashimi: try driving an 1980 toyota land cruiser and driving a new auto land cruiser... which is nicer? of coz the 1980 cost only <5% of the new landcruiser pricetag

*edit, better example, change the word "toyota land cruiser" to SLR (additional 'D' for the new landcrusier)

the lens is meant for film manual slr... imagine the hectic people used to comment that how hard/easy is it to shoot in the old days.

well..he is too obsessed...just like some ppl think that using certain brand of gears would make u a pro...maybe they also feel they r pro when they r using those "special" lenses...

i rmemeber i was browsing the STF photos..and he walkpass me...i told him i was poisoned by STF bokeh..it looked diff from the "normal" flat bokeh..its more 3D n make the photo pop out.....well..he told me.."aiyo..those bokeh not very special ma..u wan special bokeh..play manual lenses..we have so many diff type of bokeh..play until u crazy..somemore its alot cheaper than ur STF....trust me..new lenses no matter carl zeiss or G or L..has no fight with the old lens at all~ "

well i never argue back since im not familiar with those lenses..not fair to make any comments blindly tongue.gif

my kit lens better then STF, not circular, but like mulberry shaped(mini balloon-ed shape),... (crooked apperture blade, i F8ctk the head technician last time i send back for repair, for he told me it is NORMAL... which part of crooked is normal? @.@)

Added on November 2, 2009, 2:11 ami think the main reason ur 5dmII friend likes old lens because New FF/L lens could easily had let him brought 10 set of the old film lens (which is FF in today's term), same reason why beercan is getting more expensive day by day since A900 came out...
