just a note:
fatigue is a failure due to prolonged, cyclic stress..even minor stress (much lower then the ultimate tensile strength of the material)
steel have a very good resistance of fatigue failure..

carbon fibre not necessary stronger..
but weight to weight..maybe it does..
even spider web is 'stronger' then steel cable

in F1..they use it because it is easily break into pieces during crash..
hence absorb the impact force..hehehe

the point is..to design a bicycle frame is not easy
