1. Brand = Mitsubishi
2. Budget = RM10,000.00
3. New/Used/Unreg = Used
4. Specs = 2000cc Petrol / Diesel
5. Transmission = Automatic
6. NA or FI = NA/FI (Petrol would be NA and Diesel should be turbo)
7. Type = SUV (5 or 7 seater, it doesn't matter)
8. Remarks =

Looking for a cheap runabout for my little business. My concern mostly lies with maintenance, fuel consumption and roadtax for this car.

Maintenance = Estimated to spend < RM150 every 3000kms for normal service
Fuel consumption = If full tank is about RM80 i need it to return at least 400kms per tank
Roadtax = For petrol it is pretty straight forward but I know this vehicle has diesel variants and cc's much bigger 2.5/2.8/3.0 so what is the tax like?

Some of these vehicles are as old as 1995 and have well over 300,000kms clocked.
Any worries about the engine and gearbox?

1. Brand : Any (Guess japanese brand would b more affordable)
2. Budget : 70k Max
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : N/A
5. Transmission : N/A
6. NA or FI :  n/a
7. Type : SUV
8. Remarks : Looking for a SUV

what are the options available to me?..i'm tinking of the CRV or the RAV4, but for both the fuel consumption i heard is so much worse that other SUV. Is it true?..

how about for X-Trail or Harrier?..any comments on it?..or any other SUV within price range?...Pajero?.. hmm.gif
*
CRV = good choice, many parts available, cheap to maintain.
RAV4 = good choice too, parts abit rare compare to crv/xtrail but also quite cheap to maintain.
X-Trail = decent drive but unker looking.
Harrier = you can hardly find any good 2.0 within your price range, it will be usually 2.5 or 3.0, better not think of this car as high maintainence and gearbox issue.
Pajero = there is a whole world of pajero with many different spec, year and price. if you looking for something more recent and in your budget why not look for Pajero IO?

all 4x4 will be heavy on petrol consumption.
if you worried about that then get the x-trail can be 4x4 or 2x4 with a push of a button.
simple to use for ladies.

wow!!! ur comments really address all my concern above!!! rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

i secretly had my heart set on the CRV or Rav4..but i read from this forum tat the FC really sux ( i mean much worse compared to other suv, of cuz, i can't expect suv FC to be like Viva. tongue.gif) anyway, mite give rav4 a skip as i heard tat Full-time 4-wheel FC will b much much more worse..correct?..

pajero mite b a turn off due to their sheer size and road tax (2600-2800cc)..parking also sux. sad.gif ok..

what about the X-trail?..besides the unker look, any other major complaints about it?..like high maintenance or gearbox or apa-apa saja?.. hmm.gif

i tink so far its narrowed down to CRV, RAV4 (a bit skeptical there) and x-trail. do suggest if got better alternative. smile.gif icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  notworthy.gif

Added on February 19, 2012, 1:14 amthe pajero io seems nice too. But seem to be quite rare?..not?.. hmm.gif
*
actually if you can look pass the unker design the x-trail is the best value for money SUV.
it does 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive.
so like if it is raining hard and you think you need the extra grip but sacrifice fuel economy you go for 4x4.
normal driving you can always keep it on 2x4.
there is another SUV but the old vitara is too old to consider and the new one is too expensive.
vitara is in same category as pajero io.....imported and rare....so parts will be hard to find and expensive when you need them but maintainability should be ok.

plus yea i am not rich either...salary range around 3.5k per month... so i dont think i can afford city or above.. cry.gif

my advise is to go for the best vios you can afford.
you'd have an easier time selling the car later on when you want to upgrade.
although the mazda 2 looks better and is cheaper, it doesn't hold its value over time (so far).

Hi guys,
I need your precious suggestions, as I'm noob in car...
Used Toyota Vios G 2003 vs New Saga FLX 1.3 Executive
Do u think which one is better choice?
*
vios g 2003 is a 9 years old car.
quite old, next year will be 10 years old.
usually the sweet spot for second hand cars is around 5-7 years.
older than that if it is dirt cheap its fine but if its going to cost you more than 20k you'd better stay clear.
if the person never maintain it well the aircond will be problematic to fix because it is part electrical and mechanical not many shops can fix it without saying "replace everything lah".
even if it is maintained well the wiring and finishing will be quite worn for a 10 year old car.

ii) HYundai Elantra - installment for 6 years.

Mainly for city driving, both manage to fulfill my basic needs but of coz Elantra offers extra too.....such as glamorous for young exec like me.....

I do agree that car is a depreciating asset......that's y have to think properly because making decision....

a friend suggest to get Polo GTI instead of hyundai.......with better resale value....

if get polo tgi, I would have to go for 9 years loan for same range of month installment payment and top-up few thousand to meet 10% downpayment.

So, even if I sale off the car after 5 years, among these 3 cars (i10, Elantra, and Polo), Polo TGI might give me the highest money back value....

Is it worth it for me to for Polo, what do you all think?
*
there is another school of thought that whatever you put you get back and whatever you didn't pay you save.
e.g. buying 100k car but depreciate to 60k after 5 years u might think it is good but you wasted 40k, if you buy a cheaper car at 50k but depreciate to 25k over 5 years you only lose 25k, and that 40k you saved is either in your bank or enjoyed going holiday.

of course if you buy a lemon like skoda/ford which depreciate alot faster you're even worst off.

i need other kind of recommendation

need to sell my car off to make way for possibly a crz or the new 2012 civic. but then my city still got some balance with the bank. the sales advisor i am booking either crz or civic found a car dealer for trade in purpose

we agreed on the price and now we are going to other steps. i read and research quite a lot about this and found out there are cases of which people got serious problems after trading in their cars ( got balance with bank ). one famous case is the one dealer took his bmw and default payments. it turned out the car was sold to someone else! how could a car with some balance of loan be traded without settling the balance?

so if i may, i want to know what kind of steps to be undertaken so that the trade in goes without problem? i am thinking about insisting of settlement payment statement from the bank before i hand the car to the dealer. is this possible? please advise. tq.
*
there are basically a few options:

1. full settlement of the remaining loan amount from your savings.
2. contra, ie. old car worth 50k owing to bank 10k so you sell the car to used car at 50k. you will only have 40k after settlement of the loan amount.
3. remaining loan amount to be transferred on top of your new car loan, ie. old car worth 30k owing to bank 40k (maybe this is due to rapid depreciation) do after selling to the used car you still short of 10k so your new car otr price is 110k need to include 10k from previous loan so your new loan will have to be 120k total.

for option 2 and 3 u need to go JPJ to endorse the S&P to used car, its a new ruling.

Honda E - a good choice, though depends on your driving style and lifestyle choice. i wouldn't say this is the most frugal of the range but definately 1.6 class performance.
Vios G - don't waste money on TRD or G spec, the E spec will do just fine, plus when you sell later on there isn't much difference maybe rm1000-3000 only but the purchase price difference is huge.
Mazda 2 - imho i think its ugly but the sedan/hatch are the cheapest
Fiesta - again don't waste your money for the highest spec model, its all just cosmetics.
Insight/prius c - gotta stretch your budget for these but definately getting the best technology for the price you're paying for.

QUOTE(mokhzaini @ Apr 18 2012, 01:46 AM)
tq but i am looking at steps at protecting myself during the trade in process. i mean dealers not many can do full loan settlement within few months after trade in let alone weeks. many do continue payment till got buyer for the car only then they settle the balance with bank

some horror things going on, apart from the BMW story, are dealer gone cannot contact anymore and monthly payment for the car which is supposely paid by the dealer, not clear up until the last moment before REPO. then got dealer not clear the full settlement although the car no longer at the dealers place. i dont know how but continue payment could be the reason. however this continue payment thing is illegal by any means of the law but in the end the initial owner of the car suffers. bank keeps calling got loans still unclear etc etc.

i dont want got anything to do with the car or the loan anymore after i do the trade in. that means the car change ownership (which is okay, no problem with the procedure n very low risk to me) and LOAN settlement (the biggest risk) done

the used car dealer as suggested by my SA came and checked on the car already and we agreed on the price. however i am skeptical and at the same time afraid about their ability to clear my loan balance with the bank in the shortest time possible i.e weeks or 1-2 months top. he and my SA assured me they will clear my load in full before the due date of my monthly payment which is in the middle of the next month. talk is cheap and i am still at highest risk. the only way i can think of to protect myself is to insist the full receipt of the loan settlement BEFORE signing the indemnity letter and hand over the car. i did asked around and many said this is not possible. because no one wants to carry the risk of paying for something of which they not get it. but at the same time i dont want myself to be exposed to uncertainties after trade in.

the difference between my loan balance and the price agreed is going to be the down payment for the new car
*
this used to be a problem but should be lessen because of the 1 car per individual rule by jpj.
so before you can register your new plate number.
u need to sign papers to "sell" the car to the used car dealer.

The new Kia's and Hyundai's are great lookers with attractive prices.
If you can hold on abit more usually after the initial launching period they will come out with more incentives to buy their cars like lower interest rates or free maintainence plans. The car is still too new to bundle with those trashy OEM bodykits, probably too new nobody makes them yet, though they look sleek without bodykits anyway.

3. New/Used/Unreg :Used Condition - Registered in the year 2003
4. Transmission : AUTO

Remarks : Just went to the showroom around Selayang area and manage to find one unit that I am quite interested with. White in Color and comes with simple minor scratches and dents. Problems that I've managed to spot them during inspection :

1. Mirror Wind Down pedal is missing
2. Central Lock not functioning
3. Aircond gas is running out - pretty warm inside

Other than that, everything within the interior body seems to be OK. As for the engine part, got no idea much - was cleaned up earlier by the sales person and he insisted that everything is in the Original Form without any modification / accident free.

Sales person offered to fix all the problems that I mentioned earlier with inspection on the engine compartment before handling over the car to me.

He requested for at least RM1K down payment in order to improve the possibility of getting the car loan approved. Major banks will be PBB / AMBANK and HLB with the rates in between 3.5% - 4.0%

Does this deal seems to be promising ?
Feedbacks are mostly welcome from you all in this issue. smile.gif

i'm quite concerned with the aircond.
insist he fixes the aircond and you sit inside a nice cool car.
aircond is one of the problematic parts of the car, if a few simples fixes cannot resolve the problem usually thats why owners trade in their cars.

Though i think Preve is one of the best around my budget but I have too many protons at home. its time to change.
Went to see out Mazda, the interior... (sporty type, not really my type). Now I only left with Vios E (4-speed auto tranny  sad.gif ? or wait for the new one?), City? or Elantra (worry about the 2nd hand value in the future 3-5 years)?

any comment about nissan bluebird (92) and toyota corolla.
*
you won't be able to get loan for that car.
usually banks won't provide loans for any car above 10 years.
so if you wanna buy a car in 2012, you need to buy a car registered in 2002 or later to get a loan.
1992 is like more than 20 years ago.
it might be cheap and you need to buy it cash.
but it would probably need alot of TLC.

some owners actually just want to get rid of their cars because going overseas, feel it is bad luck, or some other non-car reason u can get a good deal.

i remember a friend of mine whom is a christian prefer chevvy's because their logo looks like a christian cross, and think maseratti's is a devil logo doh.gif

i think previous generation vios/city would be a good bet.
the latest models will cost you alot look for the latest facelift vios/city before current one.
you'll get a good car for a good price should be around 2008/2009 car.

why disapointed with preve, according to "some" people its a world beater, can even beat cars like Mazda 3, Civic and Altis.

Preve highest spec vs inspira highest spec vs honda city high spec.
Price about the same.
I am looking for good NVH and power.
I tested all 3. but i felt as if inspira has good NVH and power. i didnt think preve was good. but many people think preve is better.. why?

probably proton fanboys distorting the truth.
never buy anything based on what others think.
if you think it is better go for whats in your heart not what is in other people's mouths.
becoz u won't regret if u buy what u want.

So, beside saga flx, which in consideration of paying less for a temporary car, any other recommendation ? perhaps a 2nd hand waja ? (this is why i posted here for used car) and consider also resale value afterward when selling (after 3 years).

perhaps, hyundai accent 1.5 ? hmmm  wink.gif  hmm.gif

Thanks in advance for the suggestion !  notworthy.gif  u r d best.

saga flx and myvi should retain value quite well.
hyundai is notorious for low resale value, but their cars have improved alot so of course since you're not paying for it why not enjoy a good car at your company expense?

wise choice but then there are always lemons, take a look at the cars carpet for clues of flooding.

fuel consumption of these cars if kept in good condition are close to motorbikes wink.gif

Thanks for the suggestion bro.
But i kinda tall, got one member suggest me toyota seg.

anything below 1000cc is usually tiny for tall guys.
anyway here are a few suggestions i have from a quick search in mudah.

Ssangyong Rexton RX290 diesel -02
3.0 diesel monster.
maybe too much for your pocket.
but a great buy at a great price, plus it is an 02 car so still can do loan.
http://www.mudah.my/Ssangyong+Rexton+RX290...el-14048621.htm

Proton Gen2 (A) -05
1.3 automatic
may not be powerful but you can't find many similar cars in 2005 going for this price.
http://www.mudah.my/Proton+Gen2+A+-15181962.htm

Renault Kangoo
1.3 automatic
might be butt ugly to some but it is a very user friendly car, good too if you have pets.
http://www.mudah.my/Renault+Kangoo-14560996.htm

Proton Satria GTI original
this is a rare find, grab it while its available.

New is always better.
If you're okay with using a manual inspira go for it.
I'd think its a much better buy than lancer gt because the gt uses CVT, if the owner didn't take care of it, it will give problems.

the proton fanboys are gonna hate me but i'm gonna put my neck out for the inspira 1.8mt instead of the preve.
basically a manual is going to be easier on your pocket to service, gives you less power loss over the transmission, better control and fuel economy.
if you can drive a manual go for the manual plus if anything happens since the inspira is part lancer, there is already a base of cheap parts/spares from lancers being crashed all over the world plus worldwide economics of scale is much better than preve at the moment only production and selling in malaysia.

Yes! It depreciated so much that you can buy a 2005 model that was selling at over rm150k at only RM50-60k nowadays.
But make sure you have a trusty mech that can do the dirty job for you.

Prius C is cheaper than Insight.
Of course Prius C or Insight would be at your maximum budget.

Take your pick from here:
http://www.mudah.my/li?fs=1&ca=9_s&th=1&q=...e=4&rs=22&re=32

But these are my recommendations:

Kia Spectra 1.6 Auto Ori Novus Full ServicesRecord -06
http://www.mudah.my/Kia+Spectra+1+6+Auto+O...rd-15319135.htm
21k for a 2006 car isn't a bad deal.
Plus this is a high spec version.
Looks to have been kept pretty well by the owner with full service record and no modding.

FullLoan Proton Gen2 H.line 1.6 AT 05 LOW MILEAGE -05
http://www.mudah.my/FullLoan+Proton+Gen2+H...GE-15000570.htm
Although a 7 year old car but low mileage is a plus usually ex-expat car.
Full loan is definately going to be better on your pocket.

Proton Saga BLM 1.3 A Full Spec A-BAG New Near 09 -09
http://www.mudah.my/Proton+Saga+BLM+1+3+A+...09-14271683.htm
This is a steal because it is a very new car.
However, please take note people don't usually sell 3 year old cars unless they have financial problems or the car been thru some kind of accident.
Check and ask everything before commit.
