Hi all,
I'm planning to buy a new VW polo 1.2TSI.. Anybody used this car? Is it worth buying?
Thanks in advance..
*
basically for the price you can buy a bigger car like altis, lancer, civic.
but if you really want a quality german car the price is worth it imho.

QUOTE(adrianteo @ May 23 2012, 03:52 PM)
Hi, i'm looking for a car for my gf. Still deciding whether to go for used/new car.

1. Brand : Something compact like the size of Myvi
2. Budget : Less than 50k, or maybe slightly more but the cheaper the better biggrin.gif
3. New/Used/Unreg : New or Used
4. Specs : Std Spec
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type :
8. Remarks : The catch is here that my gf just came back from oversea and not looking to move out in the next few years. However, there is a possibility that we may move out to oversea after 5 years.
Thanks!!
*
i'm guessing a basic city roundabout is all you need.
a myvi would be your best bet as it will hold its value quite well when you want to sell in 5 years time.

QUOTE(blynn123 @ May 24 2012, 12:48 AM)
1. Brand : Any
2. Budget : Somewhere around 100k or less
3. New/Used/Unreg : New only
4. Specs : any ?
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : any , from sedan to hatchback ?
8. Remarks : I'm a student , hope this helps ? lol . don't need a c segment car btw.
*
i'm guessing your parents are gonna buy it for you.
do them a favor and choose something more affordable.
if they're against local cars because of their mindset of them being unreliable and euro cars because their mindset of them depreciating alot.
you can consider the parents favorite of toyota or honda.
perhaps can consider honda jazz hybrid or honda insight as your top range choice.
then think about vios as your entry level.

QUOTE(jagadis @ May 24 2012, 09:29 AM)
1. Brand : PROTON/PERODUA
2. Budget : 30k
3. New/Used/Unreg : anything
4. Specs : any
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : any , from sedan to hatchback ?
8. Remarks : Was checking on some second hand cars around this price range and found some Proton Savy. My question is why is Savy's second hand value low? Is is due to its complicated gearbox?
*
second hand value depends on alot of things but the main thing is demand.
if many people demand for that model then it will always have a high value.
for example 6th generation honda civic second hand/third hand price is on par sometimes with 7th generartion model.
because the 7 bombed while the 6 was da bomb!

just did a search and found some gems, you may look at the total.
http://www.mudah.my/li?fs=1&ca=9_s&th=1&q=...e=3&rs=22&re=32

here are a few that pop at me:
probably over priced for a wira, should try to stay away.
http://www.mudah.my/Proton+Wira+SE+auto+sp...gi-13406075.htm

a good price since this person is desperate to offload his car quickly to buy a house, you may get discount if he is really pushing for time.
http://www.mudah.my/Perodua+Viva+660cc-15220793.htm

good looking car and 4 years old is usually the time for people to upgrade to a better car, so usually buying from these people is good as they maintain a car well and change it every 4-5 years.

QUOTE(havenzhiv @ May 28 2012, 06:35 PM)
1. Brand : Any
2. Budget : Somewhere around 150k (if I can get it for less even better)
3. New/Used/Unreg : New or used (but must be less than 4 years old)
4. Specs : anything will do
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : MVP or 7 seaters
8. Remarks : For me, looks come last, I go for leg room space and safety first.
*
a smart choice choosing cars in that age range.

this is an enigma, its a 2006 car but registered in 2010, still can get loan but its not exactly 4 years old.
class and space wise its competitor are the likes of estima and alphard but unlike those cars this one is
much lower so drives like a car.
http://www.mudah.my/Honda+Odyssey+RB2+Perf...+A-13387526.htm

when it comes to MPV's you can't beat citroen's or renaults they have the best in range for this segment.
this particular version even comes with a pano roof!
space and safety should be 5 stars you can fetch the reviews for this model.
though many people hate its looks.
http://www.mudah.my/Citroen+Grand+C4+Picas...+0-14000833.htm

for new if i were you i'd be thinking of either ssangyong or hyundai mpv's.

QUOTE(dreamingnow @ May 28 2012, 09:05 PM)
1. Brand : As long as it's safe and reliable
2. Budget : My fresh grad basic salary is 3.6K.. It will be great if you can advice on what my budget should be.
3. New/Used/Unreg : New or Used (preferably because it is more affordable).
4. Specs : Good enough for a lady driver? Haha
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :  Doesn't matter (Lady driver! Haha)
7. Type :  Doesn't matter as well. It's mostly for my own use.
8. Remarks : Just a first car for a girl.. Thanks! I guess it's important to get a car which doesn't eat petrol too..
*
without knowing you better and your actual budget i am going to assume you want the lowest possible repayment with the most reliable and cheap to run car.
imho there is only two models you can consider from my statement above.
cheapest non-local brand would be consider a Vios E or G. don't go for J or TRD.
for local just buy a Myvi, don't buy the most expensive one its not worth it just accessories, get the 1.5 auto.

Want to ask sifues here:

Should I buy 2nd hand latio / sentra better? I was looking for 2007/2008 car. Both is in similar pricing, which latio seems a lil expensive. Any recommendation?
*
i think latio more suited to ladies as it is smaller and easier to park. but its newer not everything the mech can fix which he will recommend you go back to SC.
sentra is abit older in design and technology should be cheaper to get parts and more mechs readily can fix alot of problems.

Hey, yes i've just created a dupe here. I dont know whether this is the right thread to post this, but if i do, please advice smile.gif

Just want to ask some of ur opinions, after years of hardwork, im planning to buy a good car before raya(august). I have few choices of cars that on my list.

My budget are below 400k, willing to give out d/p around 50-80k.

I've test drive a 2009 S5 coupe, and it was an awesome car, but doesnt feel that 'sporty' and it feels more like a safe car. i mean its too safe, u dont feel anything. Maybe good for old man biggrin.gif

and my second choice is a BMW M3 2009 above with the new i-Drive system. But sadly, i never have the chance to test drive it as the service that i got from the dealer is s***. Maybe because i was driving my Saga at that time. But will try to test drive with other dealer.

Between these 2 cars, which one would you'll be the most to own?

And also, do u think that i'll get easily approve on loan with my earning?
I earn around 10-11k(after tax) a month through my own business, and have 150k+ in bank acc. I only have 1 finance for my car which is Saga.

let's say through my calculation, i purchase either one car at the price of 400k with 50k downpayment @ 2.5% int(est). so my monthly repayment for 9 years would be 3969 p/m or we just round it up to RM4k per month. What i heard, ur salary must be 3 times ur monthly payment(i dont know whether its true or not). So am i eligible to purchase one?

or my salary is still poor fag to own one of the best 'Deutsche Engineering' lol!

*plz no flame, just asking opinion. thanks in advance to sifus.
*
if i have that kinda salary i'd just go for something like THIS.
if i wanted 4 doors then i would choose THIS or THIS!

Yes indeed. just that the driving feeling in S5 is diff, u know its worth it when u compare to interior quality and design. but sometimes my brain said 'its too underpower' haha.
Quite nice choices there. but isnt the cayman 2.9 power are below 300hp compare to the brother 3.4?
and also the merc, i must admit that eventhough i am 24, this merc doesnt look like an old man car thumbup.gif
but the S4, when i saw 1 in the dealer, it looks weird at the 'ass' part. its something like big at the front and getting narrow at the back.  unsure.gif

and i just found out from a friend that the 2008 M3 old I-drive, can be upgraded to the newest I-drive complete with Malaysia navi. dont know about the price  rclxub.gif
*
you're correct!

2009 Porsche Cayman PDK
Engine: 2.9L inline 6-cylinder – 265-hp / 221 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission: 6-speed manual, 7-speed PDK automatic.
Curb Weight: 3,104 lbs.
0 to 60 mph: 5.4 seconds.
Top Speed: 165 mph.
Fuel-Economy: 20/29 mpg (city/highway).

The merc is a silent killer, looks like any ordinary merc of that class but the power, fooh!
I agree with you about the S4 my cousin drives that but the interior is great, when he was driving it around i didn't see the needle move away from the 7/8 o'clock position i thought it was broken then he told me coz we're not going fast enough sweat.gif

If you like BMW's you can't dislike this.

1. Brand : As long as it's safe and reliable
2. Budget : up to 30k max, prefer somewhere 24k if it's really trouble free. or somewhere 13k with minor fixing. salary 2.3k
3. New/Used/Unreg : New or Used (prefer used because it is more affordable).
4. Specs : doesn't matter, but hope that i can get something presentable la. for poor engineer
5. Transmission : both (prefer manual since it safe fuel and less problem, like savvy)
6. NA or FI :  i don't know what is this, better one lo
7. Type :  Doesn't matter as well. It's mostly for my own use.
8. Remarks : -fuel efficient is a must (long travel to site)
                  -easy and low maintenance
-resale value? probably doesn't matter if it's about 13k only

9. On my mind currently: Savvy, Myvi, kenari, kelisa, viva, satria(old model), sentra, atos, kia rio

actually i really really want to get a savvy, but read a lot of problems. leaking, aircon, coil, accumulator, gearbox, jerking, hard to find mechanic, hard to find parts, maintenance also expensive. so in the end, feel like it's not worth it.
*
i'm going to divide you into two categories.
1. cash sale
2. loanable - that means the car mustn't be older than 2002

cash: decent runabout, probably can last you a few years until you can get a better car, you can always swap proton parts with mitsubishi parts for better reliability.
Wira 2001

loanable: quite a good car and not too old, mileage very low probably ex-showroom / test drive car.
BLM 2009

hellllo every body

i am thinking about my first car persona or preve
is there any problems or bad thinks in those cars?
if you know more information please tell me

1. Brand : Proton preve or persona
2. Budget : less than 65K with loan biggrin.gif
3. New/Used/Unreg : New
4. Specs : Full specs
5. Transmission :Auto
6. NA or FI : -
7. Type : 5 setters
8. Remarks : -

big thanks to you
*
persona has been in the market longer thus more workshops can support it.
plus parts for it will be cheaper.

i do think preve is a good car, though if you'd never had a car before i'd recommend you take a toyota vios with your budget.
proton workshops are notorious for not doing a good job.
if you have problems they will tell you "every car also like that lah live with it" or tell you its fix but they actually never do anything.
this is fine for minor issues but don't let their negligence create big problems.

hello, thinking of buying an EG or satria GSR,still in dilemma,is it true that those car consumes fuel a LOT?cry.gif
1. proton/honda
2. less than 25k
3. Used
4. VTEC/MIVEC/GSR if possible
5. Transmission manual preferred, but auto also can
6. NA
7. Sedan, 2doors is better lol
8. im a student,so looking for something not so "makan wang" but can show off a bit at road  brows.gif
*
so i'm guessing you're looking for something that looks and sound like a monster but won't hurt your wallet.
the fact is that performance cars are never frugal on fuel and if you wanna go fast you always need to burn more fuel.
with the budget you have on hand i am guessing you're going to pay cash.
let me give you a few examples of options you have:

1997 Satria 1.3 manual. Nothing really fantastic other than the cheap price. You can have the money or you can use some to make-up the car abit maybe with GTI bodykit then do some light tuning. Or if you have the time and contacts just plonk in another engine, i recommend Satria GTI engine than mitsu engines because it is newer and quite fuel efficient.

Honda Prelude, its gonna hurt you everytime go pump petrol but the look and performance is there.

EK4 1998 good price for the age, just buy it spray it white, add some accessories and you got yourself an EK9 look-a-like

And one more question...is it wise to buy a 2000-ish volvo or peugeot rather than a old kerani or a old waja in terms or safety and fuel consumption?
Thanks to all the SIFUS in advance!  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

volvo and pugs are good cars but require alot of TLC. parts for them aren't always easy to find at the prices you're willing to pay.
and not all mechanics can get the job done without telling you "replace this", if they dunno they just replace until problem solved.

here are my suggestions to get ur juices flowing
Gen2 2007 - quite new, low price, whats not to like?
Saga BLM, sporty looking and not very old, good price.
Spectra 2009, probably the last batch of these before they discontinued and start selling new models, it depreciated alot but someone elses loss is your gain!
Waja 2006, a big car and can still get full loan, why not?

Audi's used to be good value for money cars.
Were expensive so only corporates or rich people buy it.
Then it depreciate like a rock then normal people get to buy a 3-5 years old car at 1/5 the price.
Now with VW revitalizing the brand the cars are very sought after and many models to choose, the only cheap ones in your price range are from the older generation.

A6 2005 - One of the newer looking ones in your price range.
A4 2002 - still looks good but will start to look dated quick as Audi currently going through another round of design change.

CF4 2007 manual - i'd recommend you this as a great starting base. You don't need to spend alot to get this baby to perform.

Prelude Type-S H22A 2007 - this baby is full loaded and ready to go, though i'd recommend you bring a trusted mech with you because i don't recommend buying modified cars unless the owner is really just fedup and want a new challenge and not selling off his lemon.

there is nothing which isn't local under 60k which i would recommend as the Myvi class of cars from Hyundai and Suzuki aren't great.
sort of expensive for what they are and depreciate quick as you don't see many on the road.
for 10k more you get alot more choices like Suzuki Swift and Vios.

BMW 320i 2007 - this would be great for your image but prepare to pay a premium to maintain it in terms of schedule maintainence, parts and fuel.

Sentra 1.8 XGL - this would be something that can give you performance punch plus look good, just need to get the bodykit for it. Its a great car as it is.

both are decent and boring cars.
at first i thought you wanted something bigger and more impressive.
but a city/vios are safe choice, very cheap to own and run.
scheduled maintainence bills at official service center is between 120-150.

(i) Honda City IDSI or VTEC 2007
(ii) Toyota Vios 2009 VVTI

CVT issue only for first batch Jazz 1.4 idsi from japan.
the ones built for local market shouldn't have any issue.
if you're worried about the CVT then insist to bring it to the SC and let the foreman do CVT test.
however this isn't fool proof test, if it is not yet have problem cannot find out.

Hi Guys. I am going to buy wira aeroback  year 2004. The owner sell the price is RM19000. Is this price is too expensive. The condition is ok ok only. What do you guys think?
*
I think it is abit on the expensive because it is a normal wira plus the condition is only so-so.

You could buy:
Wira Special Edition with serial number 2004 - this is the first batch with all the goodies, the Wira SE after this batch have the bodykit and rims but not the internals.

Proton Savvy 2009 - although its manual the owner said the condition is good, so when you go to view the car if it is not in good condition you can always ask for discounts or freebies, best thing about it is FULL LOAN not so hard on your pocket.

Proton Iswara - a fully restored car the owner said, well again you can use the same trick if it isn't 10/10 you can always be picky then ask for discounts. If it is what the owner advertised as, its a bargain.

*
The key is to always buy the newest car possible for the money you have on hand.
Put in how much you want to spend, the year of the cars you comfortable with their age.
Then from the search results comb through and see which is a good deal for your personally.
I think Vios 2005 is an okay car, okay because it is 7 years old now.
People normally trade-in 7 years old cars for newer models because they don't want to handle an aging car, sort of like divorcing a 40yo wife for a younger 20yo girl.

Here are a few options I found online though.
1. Merc-Benz E240 2009 - maybe you think too posh for you but this is one hell of a car for the price.
2. Pug 206 2009 - i don't really recommend to go for second hand pugs because usually the owners will have messed something up if not they'd keep it for the long haul.
3. Suzuki Alto 2011 - its very new, probably still has warranty, not local but very new model in our country so the spares price and availability is still unknown.

QUOTE(SoulReaver @ Jun 11 2012, 11:06 PM)
Guys, I was thinking...
Volkswagen Polo 1.2TSI Sports or Kia Forte Koup... Both roughly the same price.. Size doesn't matter.. Mainly city driving.. perhaps (Once in a blue moon) interstate driving.
*
Here is a simple comparison by my own standards.

looks: Koup, its a very handsome car indeed.
performance: Polo, don't look down on that 1.2TSI it can even give some 2000cc cars a run for its money.
maintainence: equal, although the Polo has an advantage of 5 years warranty
roadtax: Polo, 1.2cc engine of course cheaper.
re-sale: Polo, it will definitely have a better resale value being a German car plus more of it on the road.

6. NA or FI: Any

Take Preve if you're abit adventurous and like to go fast.
Its a good car spec wise but like most Proton cars the first generation usually have some issues.
The Gen2 only got rid of all its kinks when they launched the Persona.
Also good car if you like joining car clubs as they will support you better than most of Proton's hopeless service centers, the clubbers will tell you where to get the best deals and where to best service your car.

If you want a safe and basic car you can get the Toyota Vios, but spec wise lose to Preve.
Though you can be assured of their QC, should be a simple car to just pump petrol and go, then follow regular service manual you should be fine.

No comment on Mazda 2, don't like it.

4. Specs : usual compact car for girl driver
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :  Errr.. What's this?

60k is alot of money.
You can opt for new cars such as Proton Preve or Toyota Vios J if you stretch your budget abit.
If you want used i don't recommend the Swift as personally I haven't owned one but many friends of mine whom are owners of Swift have complained about their car alot. Usually issue is one side of our rear lamp will always fuse and don't work. Then mountings are fragile. Its quite a thirsty car too.

For your budget i recommend you take full spec myvi, you'd be a happy girl. however, there are some options to open your horizon.

Toyota Rush 2009 - this car is very new and i think its a good choice for ladies too, higher so you get better road view plus don't have to worry your car sink into hole when driving and going across bumps don't scratch your underside.

Civic 1.6 2011 - fully imported from Japan is good, less worry on QC problems. looks like a good buy, this model has similar look to previous civic 1.7 model but is only 1.6 should be not under powered but of course test drive and find out.

Honda City 2008 - never buy a modified car, because city is a popular car many owners have it and wanna sell it on to buy new model, this one looks good. its standard in every way and a lady owner.

Hi All the Sifus and Masters,

Planning to buy a compact car like B 170 (2007 or 2008) end of this year - waiting for the new ones to be launched in July or August.

Will price of old models drop after new ones are launched?

Budget: RM120k
Features: preferably with two auto seats. Basic features will do.
Usage: for city use only. and i have two kids, so have to be a bit baby friendly. and i dont want bigger cars or 7-seater....

Is it a good choice or there's other european/ jap compact car in the same category but cheaper? pls advise thanks!!
*
B170 2008 full spec with sunroof - i am also an admirer of this car and i think for the money its quite a car. although you can always buy a japan or malaysian made car with almost similar specs for alot cheaper the german engineering and QC is worth the extra you pay if you really know how to apreciate it.

QUOTE(kinwai88 @ Jun 14 2012, 09:49 PM)
MM2H are tax free too..

I just check...

New Civic 2.0 launching next month

Slyphy 2.0

Altis 2.0 (this is not CKD) thus out already..

Which one more worth Civic 2012 or Slyphy?

New Civic 2012 is SOHC and the old Civic 2010 is DOHC engine..

Honda - Accord, Civic , City CKD local assmeble
Toyota - Camry and Vios CKD
Nissan - Teana, Slyphy and Latio CKD
Volkswagen - Passat CKD
Mazda - R3 CKD

Looking at the Civic 2.0s ..this is the model 2010 with DOHC engine, full specs , price RM85K looks not bad..

Sit 2 years can later sell it at RM100K...make profit around RM15K from it..

July end next month Honda Malaysia introducing new Civic 2.0S, Thailand already got the specs already...but using SOHC engine, full specs too..but not so stylish as the 2010 model..

Any sifu here to advise which one better choice of buying?
*
where is MM2H?
you can't sell off FTZ cars like that if not everyone would be making money from it.
for me i prefer the FD than the new FE.

You can't really go wrong with Proton or Perodua cars nowadays.
From what i hear the quality is quite good recently but their service centers is still one of their bad spots.
What you can do is just register in the forum for the car you going to buy, even if you're a silent member and never join their activities their recommendations on parts, where to service and where to buy cheap parts will be a big help.

don't wash so much money just get her a toyota rush.
smaller tires like sedan car = cheaper long term.

same high ride height as most suv.

It isn't a fair comparison since the Ford Fiesta competitors are Toyota Prius C, Honda Jazz, Hyundai Getz, etc.
Hyundai Elantra's competitors are Toyota Altis, Honda Civic, Nissan Sylphy.

Planning to buy 7 seater car budget around RM90k with big spacious. My choice would be chevrolet captiva 2.0L Auto and Toyota Innova 2.0L Auto. I need to know the pros and cons from you expertise view. Anyone have better view are welcome to give commend.

i have been thinking to get one around this budget too, let me share with you my findings.

Mahindra Scorpio 10 - 2010 model unregistered, AWD is good and high driving position is good, the money spent you get a big car spacewise, though i think resale value won't be high because of the badges reputation in malaysia.

Isis 2010 - is an alternative to the Wish, its size is somewhere between Alza and Wish.

Captiva 08 - to be at this price point it will have to be around 2008/2007 car, normally resale value for this badge is usually bad but this model at the moment is quite high, probably due to good market sentiment as spec vs spec against its competition it gives alot to the consumer.

Estima 2007 - although the oldest in this round up it is the high spec version and 3.0 engine, although you might be thinking its going to be a fuel guzzler and roadtax killer, it is only true for being a roadtax killer, its quite frugal for 3.0 because its powerful enough to move the bulk of this car, the usual 2.0 and 2.5 variants aren't powerful enough which usually forces you to floor it making the engine and gearbox works harder thus going bonkers earlier.

Mazda 5 09 - i think this car ticks most of the boxes, its CBU, its 7 seater, it has power doors, its only 2.5 years old, resale value for japanese badges usually better than korean.

Pajero 09 - this is my choice as its very new being only 2009 and only around 55k its a steal in terms of badge, size and specs.

QUOTE(killer zone II @ Jun 26 2012, 02:38 PM)

3. New/Used/Unreg : New for Proton/Produa, Used for Toyota/Honda
4. Specs : FLX SE 1.6 saga/ SE 1.5 Myvi, or no idea on Toyota/Honda
5. Transmission : AT
6. NA or FI :  No idea, noob here
7. Type : Sedan (myvi just a desperate choice) sad.gif
8. Remarks : Help me decide. My first car.
Thanks in advance.

Let me open your horizons abit.

Pug 308 Turbo Panoramic Roof 10 - merely 2 years old this is a fantastic car for the price because new it will cost you a bomb beyond 100k but now available for 52k as someone already absorbed the drop in value for you. Though buying a Pug gives you prestige you need to be vigilant to bring it to service if not when it goes wrong your pocket will be burnt. My choice wink.gif

Ford Focus 08 - another fantastic car in which the original owner absorbed the drop in resale value for second hand bargain hunters. Its current price of 52k is a steal for the price and spec.

Civic 09 - this is the import version EU1 so CBU quality is assured, you also get prestige of it being a rare car on our streets, although not the famous EP3 Type_R just getting the bodykit will be enough to alot of street cred when going out. Although the minus point is although it is registered in 2009, it is a 2001 car thus is quite old.

If you like the Saga FLX, why not get it.
Though i see the website selling the Elantra for 84k, I saw a bunting at Bkt. Jalil showing the Elantra going for 79k.
Since you already stated Kia i'm guessing you're not afraid of Korean brands. Elantra is a good car.

I found BMW E46 318i series 2005 price range around 55k. Does it worth buying? Maintenance sky high?
*
going up the class usually the price is more than smaller and cheaper models.
e.g. tires start from 16" instead of 14" for smaller cars.
that already is a big difference in terms of price.
if you wanna keep the price the same you'd have to compromise to take lesser brands.
