*
yeap.. u can always find a targus at <200 range.. maybe better ones are at 300..

or u can buy a 2nd hand set.. which is around 100 plus.. i got mine for rm120.. which serves me very well.. heee

ah okay...

hmm.. a question here.. the driver for the switching thingy has northbridge driver included.. meaning the driver for the switching i assume..

so if we were to update our Graphic driver..(thru device manager). the northbridge will still be there right? so we still can install the driver?

tried to update using device manager.. it says the driver is already up to date..

driver version 8.631

hmm.. i tot latest shud be 8.661

QUOTE(astria @ Nov 18 2009, 08:25 PM)
Northbridge means the M780G chipset in K40Ab/K50Ab...

y dun install it??? that's the chipset driver...

now AMD likes to package the chipset driver together with the integrated graphic driver... unlike Intel who separates into 2 driver packages...
*
no i mean.. the chipset driver is inside the VGA driver from asus support..

that shud be update which enables the switching..

so i mean like.. since the chipset driver is installed.. would it be a problem int the switching when we update the driver??

Added on November 18, 2009, 8:53 pmtemperature on power saving GPU is darn nice.. idle at only 63~65degrees.. hahaa

it's more like, integrated graphic driver includes the chipset driver as well...

juz run the installer and u'll update the driver for both...

the one that allows switching is Catalyst, aka the display driver...

chipset driver is another thing...

Added on November 18, 2009, 10:22 pm

problem is, u never know when the driver is better optimized...

i still remember last time when using 8600M GS, Forceware 174 series gave a very significant jump in performance compared to the older ones, allowing me to play Cabal smoothly (less clan war) at high settings instead of mid setting...

but heck, can't expect so much from ATi's driver team though... sweat.gif
*
hmm.. if thats teh case.. how could it possile that switching couldnt be done last time.. before the asus driver was out eh.. theres gotta be some explanation..

the dell studio 15 oso same with k50ab will very hot when playing games?
*
its been answered already... like astria said.. every laptop on gaming will be hot.. its just that if u can feel the heat..

as for asus.. u wont feel any heat on the palm rest area.. basically.. u cant feel it at all.. the heat is only dissipated at the back of the laptop..

as for studio 15.. the heat can be felt on the palm rest area after prolong usage..

i am playing COD4:MW at a healthy 30-40fps(on LAN/multiplayer)... (20-35fps on single player due to huge worldmaps and models and doodads) Captured by FRAPS.

i heard people said although there arent muchhhh comparison in term of visual graphics in between of COD4:MW and COD:MW2, MW2 requires higher spec requirements to play... i hope its not true =(

but without OC-ing, I COULD never run NFS:Shift..sucks really bad with the FPS (as claimed as one of k40ab user here, he can run Shift at med-high setting and still have 25fps average, although i never OC anything yet, not coz im scared, coz i cant hahaha)

am waiting to get a hand-on COD4:MW2 when I get the chance wink.gif
*
Im having COD 4:MW2 on my k50ab..

very satisfying.. with all low settings.. on 1024x768 if im not wrong.. i can get average of 40 fps... 50+ at not demanding area.. while 30+ at places with demanding graphics.. smoooth game play with no problem at all rclxms.gif

awesome, ive been getting 40fps on cod:mw1, this is a good news for me to try mw2 hehe...
n batusai, pls find more solutions on shift, i cant wait to be able to play this game, as a racing game fan, 15-20fps is totally unplayable.
*
on NFS shift.. the best i could get in lowest possible settings.. is around 30fps.. but it crashes.. i dont know whats wrong.. could be installer problem..

i'll be reformatting my comp soon and try shift again and see how it goes.. my lappy has quite a lot of junks which i tried out..

i guess.. we should tell asus to make a bios which allow full fan speed.. as to let some of us to download.. especially.. when this lappy is designed for gaming..

Added on November 21, 2009, 1:57 pmalot people are complaining about it in the forum already.. hopefully they'll produce some good feedbacks.. eg: new bios with max fan speed XD

sorry to be asking this... but how do one update bios with this lappy?

Thanks for answering guys... any help is greatly appreciated. smile.gif
*
u download the bios which is in zip file.. then u extract it into harddisk root.. eg C: or D:

then restart your computer.. get into bios..(press f2 when in asus screen) get into advance tab. start easy flash. locate the extracted file and flash.

Dear all,

Im planning to buy a laptop with a budget not more then Rm2K. K40AB seems interesting. A dedicated gcard is a plus point ere.

After reading a few pages, i understand a few things

1) It ran hotter after a while unlike the ones dat comes with C2Duo proc. Battery usage less then 2 hours. lots of potential in OC.

Question: this AMD Proc is equivalent to what huh? (Pentium) is it a normal thing it ran hotter then intel proc? how do u guys feel with the ventilation and heat dissipation for this laptop? With dedicated gcard which i assume definitely run alot hotter....

My concern ere is the lifespan of this laptop... yes its maybe cheap but at least can last for 2-3 years without problem is good enough. My last Acer survived for 6 years +. Comes with dedicated graphic too. ATI 9700 mobility i think. Now the fan for Gcard already cacat, display always hang and bla bla bla.... so dat survived for quite sumtimes but am abit skeptical with AMD.

Used to own AMD machines. Yes they have this heat issues since forever afaik.

Sorry guys. Im old and quite lost with current technology. Typing now with Netbook. Super suffering... need to buy a laptop quick.

Everyones opinion is highly appreciated

2)

if budget wise.. and a gaming laptop ur looking for. this is the choice..

1) comparing heat of an AMD and Intel is definitely a stupid thing.. AMD is for gaming.. intel gaming- shakehead.gif yes.. battery usage.. as u can see.. average is 1 hour 45 mins.. depending on ur power settings.. they have diff type.. in terms of OC.. only the GC can be OCed.. mind that the proc cant be OCed.

it should be equivalent to Intel T4000 serires.. and.. its definitely normal to run hotter than any intel proc.. its norm that intel runs cooler..

ventilation and heat dissipation for this lappy is awesome.. u wont feel any heat on ur palm rest area.. the heat are all released at the back of the lappy.. and u can always undervolt to lower the temeprature.

lifespan.. so far so good for all of us.. as for me.. if u can take of the lappy.. it can last any longer u'd want... besides.. asus has rock solid built..

AMD heat issues are like years back.. they now have better heat management.. thou it cannot be compared with Intel. but its hell of a gaming lappy IMO..

if a gaming laptop ur looking for with that budget.. this is the one..

*
I'd go for s42 if i had the money.. hahaa..

k51ab.. doubt it would be available.. unless u get somebody to purchase for ya in ebay or what..
