Have at least 2 pairs of work shoes since these are the shoes you will wear at least 5 consecutive days a week. This way you can rotate them every day; each pair has a 'rest' day after every wear.
*
I was under the impression 1 day rest is insufficient...?

Mind me asking, are those shoes comfortable to wear?? lets say continuous walking for around 3~4 hours?
*
Well comfortable or not depends alot on the shoes itself, the first 2 will take some getting used to... also... try not to drive in them.

Well I guess not everyone has nice goodyear welted or high end blake constructed shoes to show off. And since there isn't an alternative thread for shoes, it's to be expected. tongue.gif

Nice shoes anyway, + the socks. smile.gif
*
Its not about the price. This thread is for certain category of shoes.

Anyway LV loafers arent cheap, and you can get a pair of goodyear welted for 3~400RM these days.

Well yes, casual sneakers and such are perhaps better served in another thread. But what the post seemed to suggest was that nicely designed shoes, but perhaps not made on a goodyear welt or from a traditional shoemaker don't belong here either.

Having said that, back on topic, you mentioned goodyear welted shoes at RM300-400? Where and what would these be? The cheaper shoes I've seen which appear to be goodyear welted are from Clark's crafting range. Other than that, most of them seem to be in the RM500 and up range.
*
There are a lot of "oem" shoes to be found. unknwon brands, Indon brands etc.... goodyear welted, leather soles.. I think the cheapest I have seen are in Singapore for about RM250. In Msia I seen RM300 in dept stores.

goodyear welting is not the only thing you should be looking out for. no point buying goodyear welted shoes that are made of corrected grain leather.
*
What makes you say so?

why worry so much about the construction of the rest of the shoe isn't going to last?

the idea behind goodyear welting is that the shoe can be resoled over and over again. if the leather isn;t going to last why bother.
*
hahaha... you are preaching practicality in a fashion world.. does really work.

like why do we bother with workign cuffs for bespoke suits? It doesnt serve any purpose and some charges extra for it. But no self-respecting guy would get a bespoke suit without workign cuffs

lesboutons: where do you go to resole your shoes?

absorb-d: those are nice, how much did they cost in total with shipping? I'll probably grab some the next time they have a sale haha, didn't need any at the moment
*
Try Ikano, there is a cobler at one of the basement. He's not cheap, but the result is pretty good, wont be outdone by singapore etc

metoo - working cuffs can be a fashion statement for the posers who leave them unbuttoned
*
Posers?

Do you mean to say you will get a bespoke suit and NOT have working cuffs? hmm.gif

Not sure of any particular cobbler in Singapore. Except for those usual Mr Minit or something in the malls. There is ed et al, but they probably charge about S$100+
sleep.gif

MeToo: Yeah the one in Ikano next to the money changer at Manhattan Fish Market is one I've always noticed. Have you done it before there? Am curious to know what the cost is like. smile.gif
*
On the high side for sure, but they do have decent choice of soles and seems to do good work. Should drop by and have a chat with them.

QUOTE(lesboutons @ Mar 10 2012, 06:52 PM)
metoo - i would have the working cuffs but i would leave them buttons. it would be for my own personal pleasure biggrin.gif
*
Um... i'm sure most of them rolled up their sleeves at one point and forgot to button them up again whistling.gif

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 11 2012, 01:36 AM)
working cuffs are not cufflinks??
No they are not. Working cuffs on a suit means you can unbutton the sleeve buttons.

Thank you so much for the prompt replies and great advise.

adkins981: actually I came across some pretty decent florsheims. They are about 5xx or less after discount. There are some 30% discount or something. (Not sure if it's still on.) But I notice that there are not much love for florsheims in here. Mostly about the pricing in Malaysia. Correct me if I'm wrong.

kyuen7: Yeah Massimo Dutti is fine, however I always can find a flaw in their design. It is either their sole or their wingtip patterns. I have yet to find one which suits me just right. Sorry I am quite a particular person. Well if I can get a pair of Loakes for about RM500-600, I wouldn't mind stretching my budget for a bit. In fact, I would love to. Yeah that's what I always think, Oxfords and Wingtips they are something timeless. They never get old. I really should get my ass to PLAL one of these days.

deriku: Yup most likely one of these days I will pay a visit to PLAL.
*
Do not touch Florsheims unless there is atleast 50% discount, personally i will only take a look at 70%.

agree.. but those at 70% discounts normally have limited sizes left or some older models which they are clearing..
*
Then easy, dont buy. Cause This brand is stupidly overpriced in Msia.

So far? I've only bought cheapo shoes from department stores when they're on sale. Mostly from OG or Tang's here in Singapore.

I have yet to get my first pair of proper shoes, but that will be next in line. biggrin.gif Probably when Herring or AFinePairOfShoes have their next big sale.
*
You're in SG? Does that Church boutique in Ion ever hodl any sales? The last time i went down, they only have 10% off selected models..

geox shoes lacks cushioning IMO

Try to avoid this brand in Malaysia due to the HUGE markup. Unless you are talking 60~70% discount, then maybe you can consider.
