QUOTE(Old Red Eyes @ Sep 21 2019, 07:36 PM) I see. Well, can't say that it surprises me, as Santos shoes always have some panache. How are you liking the first wears? Man, they look better in real life than in the shop pics! Very comfortable, but it's a boots so might need more time to break in. I don't have many formal shoes, so have to find one which is a bit versatile, I guess this fits the criteria.

QUOTE(stfsoelyn @ Oct 25 2019, 10:02 AM) I recently bought 2 pairs from shoetreeproject.com (they are Singapore based), for about RM258, inclusive of shipping, which works out to about RM129 per pair. They're supposedly made of "American Red Cedar". I have no way to confirm that, but they seem to be of good quality. Muji also sells red Cedar shoe trees - they were RM 121 back in 2018, but they are single tube, as opposed to normal twin tube. These were made in China. And then, of course, Lazada and Taobao also have cedar shoe trees. 129myr so cheap? Even after discount is like 150myr/pair good thing is they claimed use red cedar wood.. not sure all shoe trees in this price range are using red cedar wood This post has been edited by yehlai: Oct 25 2019, 08:19 PM Attached thumbnail(s)

QUOTE(stfsoelyn @ Oct 26 2019, 10:33 AM) At today's exchange rate, your price works out to about RM145, but if you buy 2 pairs, the price per pair comes down to about RM133 per pair, even after taking into account the increased weight and hence, shipping charge! Both they and Muji pack a small piece of sandpaper, along with the shoe trees, for you to "refresh" the cedar smell when it fades, so I guess that is a small indication of whether it is real cedar. (If that fails, there's always pure cedar oil! Come to think about it, we could just buy any el-cheapo wooden shoe trees and rub cedar oil into them: after all, we just want cedar for its insect repellent and aroma features, no? Most wood will still absorb moisture as well as cedar) Price is reasonable, if self collet then really a steal Just placed order for a pair.. hope it's good. QUOTE(stfsoelyn @ Oct 26 2019, 12:40 PM) You would either buy from Straits Establishment, cos they're close by in Singapore, and usually free (but slow) shipping, or else buy from afinepairofshoes. If you don't mind paying a premium, and cannot wait, try WJ & Co in Bangsar Shopping Centre. Loake's products are probably made by Dasco, which is reportedly owned by Saphir group's owner Alma, so I guess should be good (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But some of the stuff at P Lal seems to be very old, and I once checked out one of their polishes, and found it looked like someone had used some of the polish! wow! thanks Straits Establishment price is really better also free shipping. Dasco is slightly cheaper than Saphir even buy 50ml is still cheaper, unfortunately they don't have 100ml but not sure if they're good/similar as Saphir (gonna Google a bit...) QUOTE(attacusatlas @ Oct 26 2019, 05:56 PM) I have had a bad experience purchasing from straits establishment - very slow in replying emails, slow shipping and poor packing. One of the Saphir Pommadier was broken in transit. How long it took to arrive to Malaysia? Did they replace you a new one for broken glass container? Guess can only order steel containers wax/cream to be safe.

QUOTE(stfsoelyn @ Oct 26 2019, 09:06 PM) I think they may have imroved : my shipment from a few weeks ago came in a box, with a "Fragile" sticker label, and each bottle of Pammadier was individually wrapped in bubble wrap. But yeah, its a hassle when you get broken stuff: you don't know whether to claim from the courier or from the vendor. How long for your shipment arrived? their Saphir creme and wax price is good I'm getting both from them.. don't need mirror gloss for now This post has been edited by yehlai: Oct 26 2019, 09:14 PM

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Nov 2 2019, 10:00 AM) I have a few of their smaller horse hair brushes and always they always lose their hairs and the hairs are quite hard and abrasive. I have a larger Florsheim horse hair brush and it’s the best brush I’ve used. Very fine soft hairs I used for daily touch-ups Thanks for the info. Saphir brush is a bit expensive, hope Florsheim is also available in shopee

QUOTE(otnuus @ Nov 13 2019, 12:39 PM) This is my first time to get shoe tree. How do you get the size? They have a wide range of size options to choose. I drop them a question asking what is the correct size to get for Brannock size 9.5 but did not get a direct answer. I think it should be around 41-42. Will it be ok if the size is a little bit off? Shoetree project allows you to change size in case not fit their customer service quite good, prompt reply Just got my shoe tree, 42 bucks Not cedar wood, but built quality not bad This post has been edited by yehlai: Nov 13 2019, 11:37 PM Attached thumbnail(s)

QUOTE(niakulah @ Nov 16 2019, 06:11 PM) Did plan to buy it way back when, but never did. I have Bick 4, Saphir Renovateur, and dubbin. That pretty much covers it all except for exotics like croc, snake, etc. Might get Venetian for my Red wings boots, can't use Saphir only for dress shoes and too expensive Problem is can't find Venetian in Shopee, Saphirs are rather easy to find. Can recommend other alternatives?

QUOTE(RA_2366 @ Dec 1 2019, 05:14 PM) I did an experiment on a 7 year old Clarks today. Shoe was trash worthy, so I figured I had nothing to lose. Used some Fiebings leather dye. They came out wearable, as long as the glued sole stays on the shoe. Looks great, really worth the effort did you use any pre or post dye? This post has been edited by yehlai: Dec 1 2019, 05:21 PM
