I wonder if anyone here know bout BJD and collecting em

QUOTE

here's some info bout BJD ^^

QUOTE
"What the heck is a ball-joint doll?"

A ball joint doll is exactly what it sounds like: a doll that has ball joints where humans have joints; (knees, elbow, waist, ect). This makes them very flexible and able to pose in very lifelike ways. Other dolls, even ones with flexible wire skeletons are not as articulated as a ball joint doll. Because of their unique design, ball joint dolls (or BJDs) can sit and stand unaided, and hold a variety of very human poses. Unlike a porcelain doll or Barbie, BJDs do not need a stand, but they are available.
QUOTE
'What sizes do they come in?'

Ball joint dolls are usually seperated into three categories: 'Tiny', 'Mini', and Larger BJDs.

Tiny/Yo-SD is around 28cm tall.
Mini/MSD is around 45cm tall.
Larger BJD (SD and above) 60cm, 70cm, 80cm

QUOTE

"These dolls sound really expensive. How much do they cost?'

In general, most BJDs run from $300 to about $700 for a basic doll, with the average being $400-$600.
QUOTE
'Is it made of plastic, like a Barbie? Why does it cost so much?'

No. Ball joint dolls are made of polyurethane resin, not plastic. It is more fragile and heavier than plastic. They're handmade too!

GarethXL : kinda agree with you.. the nearest supplier is singapore..

VincC454: ermn.. MSC is also considered as part of BJD i guess because MSC is used to do faceup for BJD and also body blushing..

the type we use for doll face up is Mr.Super Clear FLAT. that is a 1st coating before using pastels or acrylics to do the rest off the 'make-up'. Blushing is using pastels brushed onto the joints.

MSC FLAT is just to cover and seal the makeup.

I don't see why its 'volks' only though. Then again its very much QC bjd company to begin with.. hence only why there is one branc outside off Japan and that is in US.
The nearest way of getting things for your kid you can get are either from Taobao,Korean companies or Den of Angels ( a forum dedicated to BJD owners alike)

---

Also i would like to point out also that as long its jointed articulations and is a 'doll' in many aspects it is still considered a BJD. If this topic is going more towards the Resin counterparts then its Resin Ball Jointed Dolls tongue.gif

Volks is well known for their QC for resin quality. I doubt you've come across one in real life now do you? Once you get to interact with one you'll understand the difference with the korean companies to begin with. tongue.gif Heck I would still want a Suigintou mold because her type just got re-released not long ago in limited batches or a School head B . Only bummer part is that due to their resin quality they tend to be heavier than our usual korean/china doll companies .

Yellowing off resin can't be helped really. The best way to get is the MSC Uv Cut ~_~; don;t know about baking soda as off yet. you heard about it from DoA?

yea from DoA.. they said the only way to cure yellowing is to soak the bjd into the baking soda solution.. =/ but some of them said it's not working ..

Mr. Super Clear UV Cut is related because it is one of the recommended MSC that we use for protecting the BJDs. Yes it is in other model kits but seeing as the application is for BJDs it doesnt really apply in their thread.
