@dinozilla,
I don't know about WhatApps but Ping! keeps us connected to the server at all times.  Yes it is onli limited to people with iPhones but my group of friends I hang out with are all using the iPhone hence we usually Ping! one another, EXCEPT for those on the i2G sad.gif

In fact, it's quite a refreshing change.  Speaking of which, I should start using BeejiveIM on my iPhone tongue.gif

Go check out the Ping! thread to find out more information.
i guess that's the point

this is from PIng! FAQ
QUOTE
Do I need wifi or 3G?

Ping! works with either wifi or 3G(data) in order to send push notifications to your device.  It will also work on EDGE, but will inherently be much slower relative to 3G.

so excluding the similarity with BBM, u r actually still using the cellular network for the Push
which utilize ur data usage...unless u r on unlimited plan, heavy user can finish off their quota very fast...thats wat stated by WhatsApp as well, reminding u best to have unlimited plan biggrin.gif

if u hav a lot folks who on iPhone and installed Ping!/WhatsApp, that sounds fine, not if u r not, and in that case...using IM+ makes no diff, since ur ultimate purpose is to stay connected with ur pals wink.gif

and indeed, agree to the point...y use so many p2p msg app if they are not inter-connect? stick to the one with the most folks rclxms.gif

yup....
bad thing is...wat for u wanna use one tat onli limit to those who has the same app onli....
and the usage method is...
if there is no wifi, it use ur EDGE/3G, that practically same as u use IM+ or so to connect

i don see any point we want tat

Ping! is very different from IM (in my case, beejive)

for instance, if i want to convey something to tinkerbel (but i'm not keen to text her for example monetary issue) but as usual, she is not logged on to her msn, i can still Ping! her.

@diinozilla I agree with tinkerbel on sticking with single apps, my point being, please don't put words in other ppl mouth by saying 'we' without having tested it urself! not everyone are having problem with WiFi/3G data plan/pricing

And ur post sounds very intimidating to the person who ask about Whatapp. He is just asking the opinion of ppl who have actually use it. and u just copy and paste information from AppStore. Peace!

BTW I still use beejive for normal IM connectivity

@nokia2003 precisely

yup!

i just take two australian networks as an example; optus and virgin mobile (technically operated by optus)

virgin mobile plans typically offer more data bundle, but less calling/texting credit, but the vice versa for optus.

hence if i'm on virgin mobile, surely i will be more inclined to use Ping! as a form of messaging than using the text message?

@mr.ngiau,
There quite a few applications of such nature; mostly paid apps. Just do a quick browse and you'll find a few:-

1) Quickoffice Mobile
2) Documents To Go

@dinozilla,
A Ping! message isn't *that* big lah; no need to be so kiasu; it's not like ur writing a storybook or something. If you have a data plan, it should be fine; if u don't have then well, it does get v expensive paying; having said that, IM+ or BeeJiveIM also utilises your data services.

Also, there's less spamming on Ping! unlike on IMs tongue.gif

or you can try to Ping! random people and see if they yield
any returns?

who knows you might find a true love via
Ping!

reminds me of the times in malaysia, where random people
text me to "make friends" (because my number has a good combination)

I bought a math magic. well, its for a student actually but i think the way they solve the math is really awesome. darn, why i didn't discover it when i was 15..I also bought Fax apps where I can fax any document. But too bad, there's a fax pro and free fax. I thought fax pro is the best apps for fax but i didn't realize there's a free fax where you can fax to anywhere for free. For fax pro, you have to pay USD2.99 per paper.. Darn, wasting my USD4.99 for fax pro..

dude..perhaps u din read from its page....

NOTE I: WhatsApp DOES NOT use SMS for chat. WhatsApp will use your Wi-Fi connection if Wi-Fi is available. If no Wi-Fi is available, WhatsApp will use your EDGE/3G connection - therefore it is recommended that you have unlimited data plan in order to use WhatsApp.

NOTE II: WhatsApp is currently not available in Mexico, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India.

I mentioned this app in the Ping thread and did not realise this is discussed.

I tried Whatsapp this morning with a friend and I am impressed. Not sure why they say it is not available in Malaysia. I emailed them for clarification as in my limited experience, it worked quite well.

You still need a hardware to broadcast it over radio frequency. However, if you have AUXon you radio, just plug in and there you have it. Hope this help

Couldn't agree more regarding the spams. Just use it for few days...and I would say.... it's cool just for SMS (free) chat (ok.... you hv to pay for the data though wink.gif )

Guys,
Have been using it for awhile and as old rusty guitar player, this app really helps tuning my old-rusty guitar "kapok". Get it at iTuneslahhh....

p/s: Can the moderator move it to iTunes Recommended Apps Forum. Thanks
