Bump this threads up.
I have sort of sort list Yamaha for my 5.1 system. Thinking on 473 since I don't need 7.1 Got a quote from ss2 legend, the avr price is good, but they don't have showroom to test out the speakers. Any idea what is the best match for this avr? Budget on the 5.1 around 3k +- 300 |

I am using 473,
Testing with dune player on both scenario while dune is playing the media 01) Switch Yamaha AVR stanby. TV will have short period of black screen, and after TV will be normal with audio and visio 02) Switch off TV, my AVR still playing the audio. Maybe you read up the manual. QUOTE(plasma @ Dec 4 2012, 01:37 PM) Got my RX-V473 after getting poisoned by a friend's Aventage series. Used to have a cheap amp but has not revisited home theatre systems since it died a long time ago. Was pleasantly surprised how far AV receivers came along. Congratulation, I own 473 for about 3 months now, with Yamaha 210 speakers set + SW 315 sub.Hit the same error when updating firmware to 1.14 from the receiver unit itself, downloaded firmware into USB drive and it works. Love DLNA - playing music from my WDTVLiveHub. Minor detail : Net Server mode to play music > change to any other scene/input source > change back to net Server. It gets out-of-sync and keeps waiting on "loading" to display music list. Hitting "Net" to cycle through Net radio, airplay and back to Net Server solves it. IR Remote control seems to drain new Energizer batteries in 2 days. Swapped 3 sets of new batteries. Got the remote control changed from the shop, we'll see how this one goes but I suspect I just got a lemon. I keep getting "Error - Too noisy" when trying to auto calibrate with the YPAO mic, even at night with the ceiling fan off. Chose to proceed anyway and then tune by ear. Once the initial setup is out of the way, I'm enjoying it. Went out to get the NS-SW210 a week later. Although auto-calibration sets the crossover at 40Hz, I found it to be better at 110Hz. After which looking at articles online looks like that matches my small to mid size speakers. My YPAO setup was smooth. for firmware update, had the same problem you faced, end up use usb for update. |

QUOTE(torokmaktu @ Dec 4 2012, 08:31 PM) Ya forgot to mention. Do not trust Yamaha Ypao settings more often than not they give you false info like your speaker are out of phase, subwoofer recommended setting given way to low at least for me. Trust your own ears more and the sound that you want to hear and not what other people tell you. Can 473 do manual calibration? |

QUOTE(plasma @ Dec 5 2012, 10:31 PM) The higher end models like the 673 has YPAO RSC (Reflected Sound Control) which also measures reflected sound and compensate for areas where you have wall on left and none on right. Thanks for the input. May want to adjust the loudness only. For Sub crossover Freq my SW-315 sub can adjust the high cut , will let the sub do the filter. The 473 doesn't have RSC, so it's definitely not accurate unless you have a rectangular room. Added on December 5, 2012, 10:37 pm Like the folks said, you can turn on test tones which cycles through each speaker & subwoofer. Under Setup > Speakers > you have: Configuration - speaker size - sub crossover freq - extra bass (you need to set front speakers to Large) distance level Go download the manual, I finished reading it before going into the store to test it out. |

My NAS is Synology DS209+ii running on RAID 1
Media player is Dune. Don't plan to use the Yamaha 473 as DLNA player. Dune GUI are much better. Added on December 5, 2012, 11:13 pmOh, Dune is configure to read from my Synology as NFS, not using DLNA. This post has been edited by weikee: Dec 5 2012, 11:13 PM |

If you want to just buy AVR without testing, try SS2 Legand. Very good price.

QUOTE(runemastertan @ Dec 20 2012, 07:50 PM) but but SS2 Legend seems to have a very bad reputation for quoting very cheap price, and then said no stock Things they quote me that I buy have stock. For the avr, when I ask they have the stock but no speaker package, so did not buy because I want to test out first.Added on December 20, 2012, 9:06 pm QUOTE(ozak @ Dec 20 2012, 07:40 PM) they sell package, but you can't audit. I got my set at hn, about 4k with sub. This post has been edited by weikee: Dec 20 2012, 09:06 PM |

QUOTE(Matrix @ Jan 21 2013, 07:30 PM) HN price is like cow and pig slaughtering price....was looking at the YSP-2200 last week there...price was RM36xx ....Desa HT only RM2999...automatically quote me RM 2.8K when asked.. I bought my set from citta mall HN, they give me good discount. I don't think is the lowest in town, but is good, and since I audit and test many difference seeing and few brand there, feel obligated to by from them.Anyway, i might be looking for a new receiver...budget should not exceed 2K (but the cheaper the better). The V 473 looks like good choice...RM 1.3K?? Is there an entrey level V 373 model? This one won What HIFI award wor... Currently using RXV - 520...got some problems, probably will buy a new one if not fixable. I am very satisfied with my RXV-520....this RXV-373 seems to be more than adequate. I don't need so much power...even the 520 i only set max 35% of the volume most of the time...( http://my.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-vis...3_g/?mode=model Can get for RM 1K or thereabouts?? Or this model not selling anymore?? |

QUOTE(ozak @ Jan 21 2013, 09:43 PM) Hei, your SW is 315 right? How you place your SW? rev or normal setting? freq cut off? I use reversed, that is the default. Standby, I use low. if it detect low frequency it will wake up. Did you put too low on the frequency cut off?I cannot get an optimise position and bass. When I put it in stanby mode low/high. the AVR cannot wake it up. Always in red light. |
