The Yammy V1900 @ RM3k is indeed a great bargain.  I am currently using Denon 3805...not sure the V1900 would be a worthy replacement of the denon3805.  Anyone can help here.
*

I dont hv either..

But frm wat I read.. I'd say its a sideways n not really an upgrd between de 2.. I guess it oso boils dwn on spkrs u hv too..

*
Haha,

I couldn't resist .. I mean a question like tat.. N I dont run a Yammy at de moment [ many moons ago got use la.. ]

Ok.. bck to de best answer - would be of cos de flagship model la.. its a flagship for many reasons [ not least becos of price - thou' tat would be an opinion all my own - as got ppl decide on wat to buy , by price..]

So what do you reckon? Someone told me onkyo avr is good for watching movie (and that someone is a saleman at seng heng store wakaka).
*
I hv used a Marantz 4200 ; Panasonic XR30 ; Yammy 520 n now Pioneer 911 and Marantz 7002 .. To me there are very slight differences in sound signature between de different avrs but I wouldnt say its becos of brands as they are of different ranges too .. OK, now based on wat l hv read plus wat l have owned, I will stay away from Panasonic n Onkyo brands as they are not very durable [ my panny died aftr just over a year - as usual past warranty ; onkyos run really hot plus a frnd had a flagship 919 which died aftr 4 years - lightly used summore] So far I hv very gud experiences with Marantz - touch wood it hasnt let me dwn as even de baby 4200 was upgrdd - it didnt die on me
But tats just me..

YMMV

If you audiophile, you won't buy another AVR for audio.
*

LOL,

Dont tink tat cos we run 2 avrs means we like its music performance.. smile.gif
Its cos we run 2 HTs in different rooms, at least l do..

Any 2 channel integrated amp [even budget ones] sound better than a much more exp avr - tink abt it - an avr has vdo bits which need funds to parts up - where do u tink it comes from?? 2 channel amps only need odo parts - can concentrate on tat alone..

Just did an audition @harvey on both package, when AVR set to Stereo-only mode, the NS555 package offers much better clarify, the bass was stronger too. But when AVR set to ALL speakers mode, the difference btw the two not so obvious.  icon_rolleyes.gif

So,

Get the one u like.. In de end, u ll be de one living wif it..

Need some advice here, my budget around 5k for complete 5.1 system with receiver, at first targeted yamaha ns-555 whole set plus AVR677 & NS-SW300 sub, ll be setup for condo living room size of 10ft x 25ft, so wall to wall listening distance is around 8-9ft, then I went CMY to ask for their pro advice, the guru there recommended me to get the new Mission M-Cubed 5.1 system (launched a month ago in UK). The set comes with 5 compact satellites speakers plus one sub, priced 3.9k+.

My question is, is the yamaha floorstanding speakers package overkill for small condo living room? CMY said yamaha need high volume to bring out the potential...

Is Mission M-cubed a better option for my case?
*
Hi,

Sounds like the Missions are satt/sub combos ala BOSE - I haven't personally heard them but l tink its safe to say that it shld be better than Hose uhm sorry Bose..

But seriously a good sat system is very good, if you don't play too loud - its almost invisible . I have heard the Energy Take satts n they are really good.. for its footprint.. PLUS your significant other will love them..

But if its me, I d look for a budget avr n an efficient floorstander - start 2 channel first [ n use up all de 5k for tis] n when u can - then add ctr n/or surr ; sub..

Your proposal sounds good to me, poisonous though.  sweat.gif appreciated your inputs very much!  notworthy.gif I have yet to make an appointment for the CMY audition on Mission 5.1 M-cubed as they need 1 day in advance to set it up with Denon amp.  laugh.gif

Hi,

De mistake most newbies make is tat they tink tat this purchase is the one and only , theyll make.. Unfortunately to say, if you have been in tis hobby as long as I hv, no matter how strong your resolve, there'll come a time when you will upgrade - sometimes its not an upgrade per se but something has konked and while you may think you'll go sideways in replacements , the fact of the matter is , you tend to go up..
I have noticed that the only people who dont upgrade - usually lose interest [ for some reason or another ] and let the hobby die..

Take my advice - go 2 channel wif de best spkr you can afford [ look pre-owned to maximise budget ] + electronics [IMO, is not that important] , if you wanna xtend usage look for ones with pre-outs cos more often than not, you'll fiddle wif more power and you wont need to waste money by upgrdng your electronics, then - just get pwr amps n you are gud for anthr few years..

Thanks ALL for your kind advice!  notworthy.gif I shd have made it more specific earlier, I need the 5.1 system mainly for HT in the new living room, another 2-channel setup for music would be use in another room.  sweat.gif apologize for the confusion  notworthy.gif

Advice still stands .. best idea to curb 'uprgditis' - buy de best u can afford n work up..

But if die die must get 5.1 - I'd go wif a cheap american [JBL/Infinity] 5 channel set n get a rythmik sub [best for value 'trawler'].. not de best sounding [for music] but darn good for HT..

Just putting my Two Sen into this...

My experience with Yamaha Subwoofer has not been great. (not very lasting)

I agree with dirtrun, the sifu of Subwoofer is HTKaki

You should also consider SVS sub...
*
I agree,

Unfortunately, SvS is now a-lot-more-expensive..
N I own one - albeit an old one..
So I am not just knocking it for fun..
If really wanna spend so much - Ill consider KK, Submersivs or JL too..

Maybe its becos our RM is weak..

Mmmm,

3040..
Get as best as you can afford - expensive does not denote only 'loud' but musicality and head room..
If you can forgo surrounds/ctr initially , u can hock all your budget on decent LR..

Tats wat I would do..

Wow,

Since u got models in mind , maybe u can shop for used..

Its a lot cheaper n in most cases , pretty safe as spkrs last a good long while [ dont get de foam-type surr for main drivers - those disintegrate in our weather ]
I have 3 sets of used spkrs [ a Digm n 2 Tannoys ] tat I bought [ some, more than 5 years wif me now ].. so , l am partial to used ..

Haha,

IMO, there is very slight difference between 7.1 or 5.1 ; lossy or lossless.. de rear channels are not on all de time - mostly for effects.. n tat oso for a more aggresive mix in an action movie - maybe.. if for a normal movie, I d hazard its more for ambience in its music score..
Just enjoy de movie for wat it is n forget abt wat format its audio is..

Lucky thing is under warranty. I hope all will be well after this repair
*
True,

But given hindsight, I would prefer it not being spoilt at all - de dwntime n not to mention de hooking and unhooking de in'connects n cables alone scares me..

QUOTE(ktek @ Mar 11 2015, 08:05 PM)
i never have avr failure yet, from yamaha (2009) to marantz (2005) and marantz (2013) again. all of them still working
got a friend's pioneer vsx523 spoiled just a few days
*
Lets see, my Panny digital avr died on me - at least its digital connexion did - analog still ok - weird
My ol Marantz dpl avr went on for at least 4 yrs n then I upgrd to de 4200 n tat went on for anthr 3/4 yrs n upgrdd again to pioneer 911 , which l m still using in a secondary system - n now, latest Marantz 7002 - hmmnn l tink abt 4 yrs now - touch wood - still goin strong....

To me, reliability n durability is important - I wont touch any brands tat has bad rep for tat..

AFAIK,

AVR's cannot be cracked - I mean - illegally 'mod' - those 'software-mod' - tat are manufacturer sanctioned must be done by agent too and usually for a fee..

LOL, wats so great abt Atmos anyway? Bragging rites??
