those downloaded mkv or whatsoever format still comes with AC3 5.1 (Dolby Digital 5.1)
no streaming or downloaded material will use PCM/LPCM as it take up huge bandwidth, so you will still be using a very standard surround mixes by either Dolby/DTS 

also, for someone mentioning Dolby Atmos / DTS:X / AURO 3D as additional discrete audio channel, that is incorrect, as the new format is mixed using an object based mix and the sound output will depend on how many speakers you installed in your system and not like if you don't have rear speakers then the rear sound will go missing

Try go to those showroom with Atmos setup and listen by yourself then only decide if you can here the different.

That's the thing. I am moving to a new house which I will use the family area as a home theater room. So no issue having a speaker on the ceiling. In fact I think possible more room on the ceiling rather additional side speakers. Just wondering which is the better option. Anyone knows how roughly the cost for Monitor Audio CT265 or Monitor Audio Silver 1/2?

could you pls clarify on the underlined part? are you depending on the plaster ceiling to fully support the weight on the speakers?
having the same length is moot because AVR/prepro has speaker distance and spl adjustment.... unless you're using pure direct signal on hifi components with zero processing.

Actually do we really need good spk for atmos. The atmos spk design is like car stereo spk been thinking of getting the car spk n try and see whether got difference

Sometimes I really doubt on quality of Yamaha hardware. My whole AVR cannot power on just about 5 months into use. I only use like 2 times per week and dead just like that. Luckily under warranty. Not sure how long it will last

Hopefully this is a one time occurrence

So far I had pioneer before yamaha. Pioneer also is extremely long lasting. Will see what to try once atmos and DTS X is settle down

Currently just want add another pair surround speaker to complete 7.1.
Marantz sr 5008 just dont support hdmi 2.0 , yamaha 677 already support but don't think it make any difference for now. Hopefully still got stock at Desa tomorrow or any other place can give better price for  Marantz sr 5008 ?

I saw Harvey Norman selling NS-51 speakers set and RX-V479 for RM2799, without subwoofer. Is this Yamaha speaker any good compare to Pioneer Andrew Jones speaker set? Thanks
