I'm reaaaaallly hoping that was a leaked video... Using placeholder VOs without explaining it is most probably going to be viewed as a negative. And if they are the ACTUAL VOs, in which case I hope it comes with the original Polish VOs.

The claims by the fella were a bit dubious and ostentatious though:
BEST graphics in an RPG to date
MOST DYNAMIC combat system
INTERESTING BOSS FIGHTS
doh.gif
Doesn't help that the "dynamic world" aspects sounded a bit like Oblivion's Radiant AI presentation...

Combat looks about the same with the first game and the boss fight just looks like it has QTEs... whoop de doo

I wish he'd expanded more on the consequence system from the first game, that was awesome.

i think deus ex 1 had a similar "consequence system" in it. maybe a lite one.

for example, if u stayed to defend your brother, he will be alive.

if you fled, he will be dead.

if you killed the backup that arrived in first mission, u will come up with a lame excuse to explain their deaths.

if you did not kill any NSF from start until a certain point, your brother will praise you.

etc etc.

these are the ones from the beginning, mid game, late game got any consequences or not i dunno liao.

Did you play the first Witcher game fully? In it, certain actions that you did in the earlier parts of the game would cause changes in what happens a few chapters later.

For example:
In the prologue, depending on whether you chose to fight the Beholder or Wizard, you would get different enemies to fight later.
If you chose to assist or hinder the "terrorists", you would have different consequences later.

Yes, its just a consequence system, but unlike other RPGs, the consequences themselves only manifested many many hours later instead of instantly in most RPGs.

in future, possible to have games with consequences system like above?

choices leads to totally different paths and endings.

Added on September 18, 2009, 3:11 pmlike, start at green, ends at various reds.

multiple choices and different paths throughout the whole game.

Which is good since this year is getting pretty crowded already... If it weren't for Modern Warfare 2, we'd probably have almost a dozen more being released this year.

Then again, Q1 next year is looking mighty crowded as well (mmmm Mafia 2)

The Wither is a interesting game, esp the part where u have to choose side or dont choose at all, however what i see here is just enhance graphic and the boss fight feel a bit like assassin creed or some other game where you get a cut scene if u damage the boss hp to get a cut scene, maybe i saw the boss cut scene method on metal solid gear??? that doesn't goes with the next gens combat systems....

The good part about this game which we all loved are the sex card, uncensored version and the dialog is hilarious, silly horny Geralt and he shoot blank... hahahahaha:D

Sorry for the second thread. I searched Witcher and this thread didn't pop up in my search list, strangely enough. sad.gif

Anyway, I'm loving the improvement so far. Better dialogue system and physics in combat and more varied NPC interactions being the main of them. biggrin.gif

Its most definitely place holder dialogue (Just about EVERYONE in that video had a Polish accent) unless of course they had some massive budget cuts in the audio department.

More on The Witcher 2! Impressive I would say. It seems that the combat system is more streamlined. The environment is top notch, with fidelity topping most of the latest RPGs. This is definitely a must-watch title!

Hmm... wonder if we can import our Witcher playthroughs into this so the outcomes of my actions carry over to the next game...

Forget I said that. Playing too much Mass Effect, probably.

Anyway, let's hope The Witcher 2 improves greatly on The Witcher, which is already a phenomenal game by itself. In fact, I was hoping for an improvement along the lines of AC-->AC2. smile.gif

Witcher 2 DRM? "There's nothing to worry about"
QUOTE
An executive from Namco Bandai recently came out in support of Ubisoft's always-on DRM, leading many to speculate as to whether or not this meant a similar solution would be implemented for Test Drive Unlimited 2 and/or The Witcher 2. However, yesterday a representative posted the following on the official Witcher Facebook page:

Our distributors commented [on] the Ubisoft-like DRM securilty [sic] solutions, and we're receiving a massive feedback about applying such in The Witcher 2. There's nothing to worry about, as nothing is decided yet. And still, it's a private opinion. You know Cd Projekt RED's opinion about DRM, right? ;-)

Yeah, I don't know their stance on DRM, either... However, before it was removed in a patch last year, the first Witcher game used only a simple disc check. Here's to hoping we can expect the same sort of situation from its sequel.

Killing Time With The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings

user posted image

QUOTE
Despite an unstable frame rate and horrendous loading times, PC role-playing game The Witcher sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide. The Witcher 2 runs at 60 frames-per-second and has no loading times whatsoever.

The Witcher was one of my favorite games of 2007. Based on a series of short stories and novels by Poland's premier fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher delivered a gorgeous PC role-playing experience, rich in depth and complexity, with compelling characters, stunning graphics, and countless little touches that brought the struggles of ghost-haired killer Geralt to life.

So when my impressions (we didn't do reviews back then) of the game called out loading in the headline, you knew it was a major issue.

CD Projekt Red senior producer Tomasz Gop Says it's not an issue any longer. "Once you're in the game, you will never see loading times," he explains, guiding Geralt and companions off a boat into the forest. The white-haired swordsman looks more dashing than ever in the game's new engine, as does the lovely sorceress Triss and dour non-human hunter Vernon Rache.

The trio stumbles upon an elf, a long-time enemy of Rache's, so while the two trade insults, Tomasz shows off the game's new dialog system. Geralt and Triss whisper to each other as the tension builds. A series of dialog choices lead to Triss casting a lightning bolt at the tree the elf is sitting on. Elves pour out of the trees, surrounding the party. It's a trap!

Arrows fly towards the party, and Triss casts a spell that transforms them all into butterflies, crumpling to the ground with the strain. Vernon picks hoists her over his shoulder, leaving Geralt to face off against the encroaching elves using the game's new combat system.

The slightly clunky, timing-based system of the original game is gone, replaced with a more action-oriented affair that Gop controls with a wired Xbox 360 controller. Instead of different stances for hard and light attacks, Geralt now strings them together, fluidly performing combos, slipping the odd bit of magic into his deadly dance, and every once in awhile delivering a stunning finishing blow, mowing elves down left and right. It's almost mesmerizing to watch.

Hardcore gamers will be pleased with the system, but what of the more casual RPG players? "There is an easy mode for casual players that will let them effortlessly take down enemies, in order to experience the story without much struggle," Gop explains.

The action moves to a small village, where Geralt and his party stumble upon some old friends awaiting the hangman's noose in the town square. As the party approaches, they recognize the 'colorful' bard Dandelion. According to the executioner, he's about to be killed for 'debauchery.' That figures.

Here comes the dialog tree again. Geralt can choose to straight up attack the guards around the gallows, or take a more devious route, as Gop does, inciting the locals towards unrest.

"Debauchery is one of my favorite pastimes," shouts one villager, while another, a prostitute by trade, alerts the assembled citizens that the head guard's "balls are rotted."

Yes, the adult situations are still fully intact.

But don't expect collectible cards featuring naked pictures of Geralt's conquests this time around. Acting on criticisms that the system objectified women, the romance in The Witcher 2 is another tool to help deliver a richer, deeper story, rather than a tacked on pseudo mini-game.

As Gop struggled to find the right word to describe the way romance was being handled in the game, I offered up 'emotionally engaging,' which seemed to fit the bill nicely.

With the action-based combat, branching dialogue choices, and emotional engagement, it almost sounds like The Witcher 2 is going to be a dragon Age clone.

But the major differences are there. The entire world, for instance, is accessible at all times. You can travel anywhere, with no loading times, any time you want. Inside buildings, on top of buildings, or deep into the swamp to face off against the giant octopus/bull monster that Geralt faced at the end of our demo.

Showing off the game's combat again, Gop had Geralt setting stun traps, rolling out of the way at the last minute as huge tentacles came crashing down. Triggering the traps, they remained rooted in place while Geralt took out their weak points. Once three were down, he rushed in, tricking the monster into smashing the pillar supporting a broken stone bridge above its head. The structure collapsed, trapping the creature, and with a few final blows the Witcher stood triumphant.

It's almost a completely different game. The load times are gone, the frame rate is crisp, and the action is more fluid than ever. But the first game's wit and charm are firmly intact, making The Witcher 2 the perfect example of a sequel done right.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is due out in the first quarter of 2011.

Console ruin good PC games.

They survived on PC alone with Witcher 1 as their debut game and they are totally unknown before Witcher 1.

Why would they even need consoles? As most RPG who have been ported to consoles becomes garbage. If they hype it up well, Witcher 2 will definitely sell better than Witcher 1.

Witcher 2 looks like an improvement over Witcher 1 in almost every way. Looking forward to it.

Witcher 1 was put on hold for consoles.

Seems like they dont have the resources to do a console version for now.

It's good in a way.

For me, nah, cause when they reach the consoles, they will be like ""OMG, so much more money to earn". Then, bye bye PC or console ports for PC.

No, its not Fallout 3.

It's a completely different beast, as Witcher is less on combat with more on story and decisions.

Well, Witcher stands out from other RPG because it's story and the complex decision tree, like a decision in chapter 1 could affect whether this person appear or not in the next chapter.

The Witcher 2 Collector's Edition Comes To A Head

user posted image

QUOTE
You want the head of Geralt of Rivia? CD Project Red and Atari will give you the head of Geralt of Rivia and much, much more in the $129.99 collector's edition of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

CD Projekt Red and Atari had a big hit on their hands with 2007's the Witcher, so they're going big with with the collector's edition of next year's sequel, throwing everything they've got into one massive collection of Polish fantasy-themed swag.

The usual suspects are all here. You've got your game DVD, making of video, manual, and official soundtrack. There's the requisite world map and what seems to be a rather large hardbound art book.

Then it starts getting extravagant.

There's a replica of a Temerian coin, a set of dice, playing cards with a rulebook to help you play Witcher-themed card games, a pamphlet that comes with a cursed coin - that's two coins now. They've packed in papercraft figures, a big bad papercraft monster doll, and three stickers. There's even a voucher to download the Vernon Roche Commando Jacket, a collector's edition exclusive piece of clothing that majorly boosts the player's sword fighting skills.

And then things come to a head. Geralt of Rivia's head, to be exact. Put it on your mantle as a fine work of art, or grab some paint and doll the Witcher up to your liking. It's all possible with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Collector's Edition.

I'm in. who's with me?

Let's be clear. Torrenting games is not good. It's bad. But, if you are planning on torrenting games, think twice about doing so with The Witcher 2, because you could be hunted down and fined.

The game's developer CD Projekt considers The Witcher 2 to be a prime target for piracy. It's a single-player only role-playing game that does not have an online component. To combat piracy, CD Projekt is signing with legal firms and torrent sneaking companies.

CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński tells website Eurogamer, "In quite a few big countries, when people are downloading it illegally they can expect a letter from a legal firm saying, 'Hey, you downloaded it illegally and right now you have to pay a fine.'"

The Witcher 2 Could Be The Hardest Game You'll Ever Play

user posted image
QUOTE
Provided, that is, you decide to play the role-playing title on "insane" difficulty. Which gives you one life. For a game that could take anywhere from 30-60 hours to finish.

While this mode allows you to save your game, if you die, those saved games will be locked and you won't be able to load them again.

But will they be locked forever? Probably not. "Of course we plan to have a resurrection scroll, maybe DLC or something", says Mateusz Kanik from developers CD Projekt, a workaround that sounds just as insane as the idea of a "one shot" role-playing game itself.

The move was partly inspired by the success of Demon's Souls, 2009's role-playing game that was notorious for its difficulty and lack of forgiveness for players that made mistakes.

Those terrified by the idea of a long and lasting death, don't worry; "insane" mode is the hardest of four difficulties, so those who just want a stroll through the woods can scale it back to something easier.

Witcher 2's insane difficulty revealed [Eurogamer]

With that number of ending it would give a lot of replayability to the game especially the different decisions we can make in the game. Hopefully the combat system doesn't disappoint.

Apply coupon “SURVEY2010″.
Includes:
Gothic II [Gold]
Gothic 3 [Goatee Edition]
Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods
Arcania: Gothic 4
Missing the first game, but otherwise this is the full set. You can find Alec’s impressions of the most recent one here. £6 a pop for three games, two of them with expansions, seems like a great deal, especially since I’ve not yet seen ArcaniA for less than a tenner yet.

With all the good stuff that's happening in Chapter 2 and 3. I was taken a back by the slow story progression in Chapter 4.

Then my PC broke down and I have to reformat thus losing my save games. Heck now have to start from scratch.

Just a random question, does anyone feel that the Dragon Age 2 storyline kind of reminds you of the Witcher 1 storyline?

A highly politically orineted storyline taking place within one city, torn apart by two factions of fanatics warring each other, you do tons of seemingly unrelated side quests which eventually uncover the main story, choose your side, and eventually ends in a final boss fight

Countless - Lost Count... That's the problem of me, when I played RPG, I tends to do things super slowly, and really go talk to all npc to try not to miss any quest.. So maybe you spent 50 hours to complete it, I might spent 75 hours playing it >< My fallout 3 GOTY 1 play thru more than 100 hours over 3 months, and still haven't touch the DLC part yet... laugh.gif

The Witcher: Versus comes to iPhone
QUOTE
EA's recently purchased mobile game publisher Chillingo released The Witcher: Versus on the iPhone today. Called a companion piece to the PC title The Witcher, Versus is a dueling game complete with RPG elements like skill and experience points.

user posted image
QUOTE
The game requires iOS 3.0, but not an iPhone 4, so owners of older models should be able to lay the fantasy smack down. It costs 99 cents at the moment, but the iTunes Store calls this a "launch sale," so it may cost more after the introductory period is over.

On a completely different topic, Chillingo paired this with an announcement that its family game Cooties came to the iPhone today as well. It could be a coincidence, but considering The Witcher gave out trading cards for sexual conquests, we're going to assume it was a wink and nod at fans.

The Witcher 2: System Specs, Fancy Screens
user posted image

QUOTE
The Witcher 2 looks shiny. But how shiny will it be? And will it really take advantage of our big strong PCs? We can find out more with a closer look a the system specs (which I’ve posted below), as well as some lovely new screenshots. I’ve got ‘em all set to click through to hi-res, should you wish to inspect them closely.

The game is out on May 17th.

Here are those specifications to which your computer machine must adhere:

Miminum System Requirements:
• OS: Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista SP2 / Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
• Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
• Memory: 1 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista and Windows 7
• Video Card: 512 MB RAM, supporting Pixel Shader 3.0 (Nvidia GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD3850)

Recommended System Requirements:
• OS: Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista SP2 / Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
• Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or AMD Phenom X4
• Memory: 3 GB Windows XP / 4 GB Windows Vista and Windows 7
• Video Card: 1 GB RAM, supporting Pixel Shader 3.0 (Nvidia GeForce GTX260 or ATI Radeon HD4850)

Additionally:
• Sound Card: compatible with DirectX 9.0c
• HDD: 16 GB of disc space
• Disc Drive: DVD x8, compatible with DVD9
• Instalation requires administrator access.
• Game supports Xbox 360 controller for Windows.

My thoughts: Does anyone really only have XP with 1gb of RAM? And perhaps the CPU and videocard on the recommended requirements seem a little high. Or suitably high. After all, we do want something a bit special when it’s a PC-exclusive, eh?

Witcher 1 was a pc exclusive title and it was great, delivering good solid hours of gameplay but lately certain game sequels for pcs have been getting dumbed down because of consoles and now I am kinda afraid of what will become of Witcher 2.

Witcher 1 is a bloody long game and the controls weren't particularly complex. The ability to play on Xbox360 controller would help alleviate RSI caused by hours hunched over a PC keyboard.

I played it until almost the end but got blocked by that monster in the sewer just before the final scene.... turned out I didnt "leveled" enough or choose the wrong leveling choice (I went melee heavy and pretty much ignored magic except the knockdown one) to have a reasonable chance to beat that monster...

And since there was no way I would rollback 10 or 15 game hours ago for that, I simply stopped playing the game.
I loved the game but that thing left a biter taste in my mouth

How strange, I didnt know the monster require magic to beat. I won by smashing its tentacles and its face with my silver sword

yeah I didnt really need magic to kill the monster too. Although with magic, its just faster in killing the tentacles.

I tried lots of times and with different strats but I was much stronger in steel and group sword fight than sword really.

Kinda wish there was a way to "reset" your points and re-assign them.

From what I read on forums the easiest was to use that fire circle thing to basically pwn all the tentacles at once and then use silver sword to pwn the big guy as much as possible.

For me I did managed to kill enough tentacle but then I only had like 3-4 seconds to hit the big guy before all the tentacles went back up.

Then I kinda left the game there since I was pissed off and never went back as I switched to other games.

Maybe I will try again closer to Witcher 2 release

Try this:

Drink Swallow + Blizzard before fight.

Take down the tentacles with fast silver, use fire when necessary, the when the big guy comes out whack him as much as possible with strong silver.

Works for me even on the highest difficulty. And you didn't need to put that many points into the silver style skill trees. Level 3 should be enough.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

I didn't like the combat mechanic for The Witcher. It felt like something you'd find in console games. Y'know, waiting for the cursor to light up and then strike and repeat again and again.

I remember many people complaining about this when it first came out. It just didn't feel right. The dark foreboding story and moral ambiguity were all good but the combat was a little bit disappointing.

Every hardcore RPG game really should provide them.

We spent hours trying to get to a certain point, yet we get held back due to some mistakes we did 10 hours before. If a game doesnt include a reset, the only viable way is to avoid mistakes in the first place, but some games have a very confusing skill tree. Playing from the start again merely to rectify it is too time consuming.

No hand holding. The Witcher is, well, like what you mentioned, a HARDCORE RPG.

Providing a reset feature would simply diminish the significance of that title. The Polish are trying to be old-school. Live with the choices you make muahaha.

I will try again with the tips Spiritviper, thanks.

And I do agree to have at least some way to tune your talents for specific combat (maybe through alchemy) like temporary buff to style would at least be helpful.

A full reset might be too much yar but some way to avoid getting struck in much harder battles because you didnt really choose the optimal talents would be nice.

For the screenshots, the difference is mostly into details like the uniform of the guy in the first picture, there I admit there is quite a bit of difference, see how it runs on my machine anyway.

loving the screenshot with "He is in chains, can't do a thing". Usually the one who say that meet a gory end few seconds later... tongue.gif

Well I really cant see too much difference except for the shadowing, or maybe my eye is bad. Still, the difference between max and min should be much more noticeable than this, I hope this doesnt mean the engine has scalability issues (ie. the lowest setting is still too high for old hardwares).

Witcher 2 non-GOG DRM, pre-loading detailed

QUOTE
CD Projekt previously announced that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings would be DRM-free when purchased from their Good Old Games online store, but today they detailed the copy protection that will be attached to the game at all other locations, whether retail or digital. Turns out the upcoming fantasy RPG will use SecuROM, but only to ensure the game cannot be played before its release on May 17th. It will require an internet connection for initial activation, but will have no installation limit whatsoever, and can even be played on up to five (5) computers simultaneously.

Those that buy the game from GOG.com will still receive a serial code, but it is not required to play the game. Hang onto it, however, since it will be needed if you want to access future downloadable content. CD Projekt also revealed that, starting May 10th, those that pre-ordered The Witcher 2 from GOG will be able to pre-load 90% of the game data. No other digital distribution outlet will be able to offer pre-loads of the game.

Spotted on Shacknews.

People still do.

However, these days, retail copies are only the disc itself and a thin booklet.

Online DD is more convenient and easier to maintain / keep.

Just go online and download.

Furthermore, you can have as many backup as you want.

Downside is just the DRM, not applicable to GOG.

Hmm.. am really surprised to see Dragon Age 2 has 68 threads and V3.. and TW2 has what? 9 threads.. Played DA2 and by comparison to what i saw in the gameplay videos, TW2 put DA2 to shame. Shame on Bioware in all honesty.

Good developers like CDPR deserves my support and if the real game is exactly as what i saw in the youtube videos, then the $ i spent for the game is worthy every penny.

Hmm.. am really surprised to see Dragon Age 2 has 68 threads and V3.. and TW2 has what?

+1

Just when I started to respect EA for making good games. Crap like DA2 and Shift 2 appear which make me wonder should I get ME3 and BF3 on day 1.

Maybe I should get Witcher 2 on day 1 instead. I haven't even finish Witcher 1 yet. :/

Seconded. thumbup.gif

Even better made than Vizima in Witcher 1, this one really brings out the "bustling town" feeling.

Now I'm just wondering why 17 May can't come earlier...

It is amusing to see all the negative comments about DA2 on You Tube.

Bioware pissed off a lot of people haha.

Anyway, I digress. The city in W2 feels really alive. Definitely a huge leap for Cd Projekt in regards to the ambience.

Ending portion of DA:O is pretty rushed.

Not as well paced compared to early and mid game.

I don't really see what the big deal is either. If you look at what they did in Assassin's Creed in creating "realistic" city crowds, it seems pretty normal to me. What I did notice in the video was the fogging in the background to cover up the short draw distance.

Don't get me wrong, will probably get this as well but this is really overhyping the Witcher 2 as the last great hope for crpgs.

Glad to see a few characters from Witcher 1 are back, like Triss and Dandelion.

They also seem to have outdid themselves in the graphics department this time.

Now, back to counting down the days until 17 May... biggrin.gif

Haha, not yet, but I am preparing to get a copy from nearby stores as soon as it is available, or maybe even considering pre-ordering through the stores. It is easier to buy games in Singapore compared to my home town in Melaka.

The Witcher 2 dev diary talks character customisation, items, and more
QUOTE
The CD Projekt RED gang are back in the fifth lovely long The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings video developer diary, discussing character development and items.

Topics covered include skill trees, catering for different types of players, mutagens, crafting, potions, bombs, the variety of weapons, difficulty levels, attacking people with a bucket, and oh so much more.

If you want more witching to watch, RED also recently demoed The Witcher 2 during its spring conference keynote.

The Witcher 2 is due to be released for PC on May 17. The system requirements have been confirmed, as has the fact that it uses SecuROM as DRM--except for copies sold direct through CD Projekt's digital distributor Good Old Games, which come DRM-free.

Role-playing game The Witcher 2 will ship with 11 languages, states developer CD Projekt Red. It will have full voice and text for English, German, Russian, French, and Polish. Subtitled languages are Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Czech and Hungarian.

That is a lot of language in one game.

The game is 16GB++ big.
We all know what Streamyx is capable of offering us users. ohmy.gif
Digital copies are always the last resort to me.

And I strongly prefer physical boxed version.

As far as I am aware of, Malaysian government doesnt impose video games censorship, do they? rolleyes.gif

The Witcher 2 has gone gold
QUOTE
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has officially gone gold, as is on target for its release for PC on May 17, 2011, reports Namco-Bandai in a press release.

"The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is the eagerly awaited sequel to the award-winning, million-selling RPG that captured the imaginations of discerning players everywhere," states the presser, "It introduced a truly unique protagonist, the professional slayer of monsters, Geralt of Rivia, and defined a new standard for thought-provoking, non-linear game narration, with mature themes, significant choices that weren’t automatically good or bad, and true decisions that led to meaningfully different consequences."

According to the press release, The Witcher 2 builds upon these distinctive strengths within a new storyline, which promises to be filled with complex characters, captivating political machinations and intriguing challenges. The game also includes a new, revamped combat system that combines tactics with action. Also new is the proprietary graphics engine dubbed "REDengine".

CD Projekt confirms The Witcher II for consoles, 'unveils soon'

user posted image

QUOTE
According to a report, CD Projekt's Michael Kicinski said on Polish TV that the studio has an "entirely new project" in getting The Witcher II on consoles.

Either E3 or gamescom will feature an announcement, which has long been rumoured. Tomasz Gop said it was "bound to happen" back in February.

Polish game site PS3SitePl reports that Kicinski revealed the news The Witcher II is in fact going to arrive on consoles. He called it an "entirely new project” that would feature at either E3 or gamescom, read the translation.

"I definitely want to make sure that is doable and that it’s bound to happen, and then I will say that you can expect the game,” said producer Tomasz Gop in February this year.

"Until we have anything solid to show or to say, I’d rather keep my mouth shut. But we’re doing everything we can, I can promise that.” The Witcher II releases on PC May 17th.

If that's the case GoG version is a much better version then since it's just $44.99 which slightly higher than the Premium Edition and is DRM free.

There is a potion in the game called 'cat potion' where you can see enemies behind wall. You can basically use sneak tactics in putting them off. nice

The old cat potion in Witcher 1 only allows sight in darkness, to see through walls you need some potion which turns the whole screen white, which is damn annoying. Glad to see they fixed that. biggrin.gif

Std premium - a retail copy definitely...

But, additional stuff unique to the GOG edition:
- DRM free
- 1 free gog.com game (select from 5 rpg titles)
- comes with the art-book (a physical copy for the 'collectors edition') in pdf format

From GOG:
QUOTE
When can I download The Witcher 2?

You will be able to predownload the game on May 10, 2011. You'll get almost the entire game and, on May 16 at 10:00 PM GMT, you will only need to download a tiny chunk of the installer and you're good to go. You can't possibly get your hands on The Witcher 2 faster anywhere else on the Internet.
Of course you'll be able to redownload the game as many times as you like, should the need arise.

PC Format's review is based on the same preview build given out to RPS and a few other sites, so it's certainly not a review as they've only managed to play the prologue and chapter 1.

Yes, GOG.com's The Witcher 2 is the only version free of DRM. However, they might remove the DRM completely some time after release.

Witcher 2's sexual content censored 'down under'

QUOTE
While Australia has adopted a 15+ rating for video games, The Witcher 2 occasionally offers up sex as a possible choice of reward for completing specific quests. The Australian version of the game will still include the associated quests, albeit with modified reward choices.

According to a statement released by CD Projekt, the changes to the Aussie version aren't major ones.

In order to obtain the rating in Australia, CD Projekt RED was unexpectedly obliged to make small changes to game content relating to the topic of sex as a reward. Since these changes are quite minor, especially relative to the total amount of content, they are unlikely to significantly affect the overall play experience.

It's not the first time that mild censorship has struck the series. Those who played the original game will likely remember that some of the game's sexual content (in the form of naughty trading cards the player would receive after each pantless encounter) was censored a bit for The Witcher's initial North American release.

I don't know about you, but I'm definitely getting retail. The so called DRM isn't so intrusive to me anyway.
For its price the retail copy is worth the money because I think for that price, we're getting a lot of stuff compared to other publishers where they only put a disc in a flimsy plastic casing with one piece of paper containing your CD-key.

I think I read somewhere that registering the game online will make it a GoG copy or something - I don't know.

GoG copy is always a GoG copy... without DRM. All versions can be registered to receive future free DLCs(if any) and update. Also by registering, you can download 2 language packs: English and Polish if you happen to buy any of the version in any country and still can listen to the voiceovers you want. GoG version is much worthy as you get the Digital Art book of the Collector's Edition too!

Yeah, that and a free game of 5.

I'll probably get Gothic 2 with mine.

Beyond Divinity is the sequel (or at least, spiritual successor) to Divine Divinity.

It's...really bad. Got all sorts of weird subsystems that just don't make sense, though I can't remember the specifics of them now.

Divine Divinity is like a slower paced Diablo with LOTS of questing. That one's fun. If hard.

The games were followed by Divinity 2, yes. This is also a much better game than Beyond Divinity, apparently (didn't play much of it).

I have been following for some time, since the first leaked video on choices where it was set in a dungeon. I think that video sparked some controversy of having naked women in the game. Then, i watched the 3 gameplay video that was released recently. I know i'll like this, as i have enjoyed Witcher 1 a lot, to the point that even 2007's Witcher 1 feels like it is better than Bioware or Beth recent games in certain aspects. Especially on the branching in story line and the living world aspect. It is also partly my brother also enjoyed Witcher 1, so, i just pre-ordered the game then.

Im just avoiding written previews as it might contain spoilers. Spoiled the game to myself a couple of times from accidentally reading some stuff.

It's just that recently, there are a lot of games looking great in videos, but it become pretty disappointing when you are actually playing it yourself. Im just worried that Witcher 2 might end up like DA2 or something like that. Looks great and promising in videos, but it sucks when you play it yourself.

My only problem now is, Witcher 1 is buggy and laggy on my rig, it's pretty hard to finish it with so many performance problems. I might just do a playthrough with generic Gerald, then import my completed game over to Witcher 2. It have been taking a while now. :/

Play-Asia does offer the CE. As long as you click the Save for later, they know that they are people interested.

Aff link - Non-aff link

Interestingly they offer a normal Asian version for cheap.... But I don't see an Asian version on the official website...

never had any problems. They have a facebook page too that their staff frequently services. i recommend using courier though if you do order.

according to the facebook page. save for later allows their purchasing department to know just how many customers are interested and they will then bring in the item (hopefully in sufficient quantity)

An email from TSB regarding the game's availability reads:

"We will announce the price when our supplier gives us the price. This product does not have a local / regional distributor and pricing will depend on exchange rate and shipping fee when stock arrives."

Ask your good friend.. uncle google tongue.gif. This game has an OTS (Over The Shoulder) view. Basically you will be able to see the protagonist/hero(Geralt) from behind and you use WASD to control his movement. Left click for fast attack and right click for heavy attack. Apart from that the game has alot to offer such as the use of Signs(which is actually magic). You can dodge/roll in this game. You can throw bombs biggrin.gif... You can set trap and lure monsters/enemies to it. The combat is very impressive if you watched the combat video. I suggest you google for CDPR conference spring 2011.

Apart from that.. this game has alot of papayas.... laugh.gif.. It's gonna be a good contender for GOTY i believe.

In Digital form you don't have the DVD.. you don't have physical manul.. also there's a 'Coin' or they call in Orens i think.. And what's more important is the CD soundtrack.. digital is just 256kbps mp3. That suxs honestly.

Anyone listen to the pre-order bonus soundtrack? Track 3 and 4 is awesome.

Well, 320k is about the best mp3 can get. You'll need file formats like FLAC and APE to go higher in terms of quality level.

Speaking of which, if the GOG edition only includes 256k OST tracks, I'm definitely going for the Premium Edition. I also have the OST of the first game myself. Pawel Blaszczak and Adam Skorupa make some pretty sick tracks biggrin.gif

If you're okay with 320 kbps mp3, then i can't see why you can't with 256 kbps mp3. It is not very much difference and probably most people can't differentiate unless you have really serious audio gear.

You can ask for saved games in the saved game market if you bought the original TW1.. It's now just $4.99.. SO you can have all the saved games you want and you can replay Witcher 2 once or twice and probably watch all the endings in youtube.

The thing is, i really enjoy games like Witcher or Mass Effect because these games actually allow me to decide on a situation, like to kill or not to kill a person, with impacts of it in the future. It also made the experience wildly different from everyone. Maybe not so much for ME.

I want to play Witcher 1 myself, and see it's implications of my grey decision in Witcher 2. Not depending on other people's save files.

That be nice if you haven't played the Witcher 1 yet.. The story is nice.. And like the brilliant idea of Witcher where the decision you made you won't know if you made the right or wrong decision. The moment you help this lady from guards she may end up being a succubus or vampire later..

I just know in DA2 .. what i did was after hearing all those dialgoues is just ESC, ESC, ESC and select the dialogue that gives Approval/Rivalry. Then i reload if it hasn't any.. Lol how cheapskate i am tongue.gif

Well, i like it to be a long game too, rather than another 10 hour long game.

I just dont really have time to play now.

I have just restarted Witcher 1 on easy, so i wont spend so much time on replaying the combat.

Right now, i'm on TW1 EE's Chapter III. I think the sex scene or collecting sex card is blown out of proportion by some website and media. It's your choice, you can collect it or not. Beside that, i think God of War III is far more explicit than this.

Which stuttering? Hmm.. I'm using an old card Gainward ATI4850GS and it's pretty smooth no stuttering though.. Perhaps you can use some modded drivers if you are using NVidia card. It used to be quite a performance.

All Witcher 2 DLC will be Free, Developer Assures
QUOTE
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings arrives for PC on Tuesday, and while there is some retailer-specific preorder DLC out there, developer CD Projekt RED assures everyone the game's DLC will be free.

"All of [it]," wrote a CD Projekt rep in a Q&A on GameStop's Facebook page. "If anything will be for purchase, those will be expansion packs. First DLC (side-quest called "Troll Trouble") [will launch] together with the game release."

The rep estimated Witcher 2 clocks in with 40 hours of gameplay in the main quest, and double or triple that if you take your time with its non-linear components.

I have a 5870, though. It's a mobility card, though, so about as good as a 5770.

I doubt Witcher could not run well on mine.

The Witcher 2 will use Direct X9 only, I doubt it'll be very taxing on the GPUs though.

graphics is not a problem for witcher.
the witcher is built with nwn1's old aurora engine which i read somewhere, is not exactly compatible with multicore cpus

i too experienced stutters on my 5850 card

I was given a quote of RM650 for the collector edition from one of the lyn seller. I believe this is the North American version.

But luckily I manage to get pre-order for RM450, this is the UK version. RM570 for the North American ones.

I was told there is no difference in the package, and have checked. Hopefully all are the same. Anyone knows?

Back to the topic, why my The Witcher EE is stuttering at daylight environment at the center of city with many towns people? I'm using GTX460 paired with C2Q8300. I think it should be smooth.

Well yeah playing on lappy but I'm below the minimum spec. Heck even the recommended GPU is 460 but I don't know how it would scale down to accomodate to my spec. Won't be good though. It's a singleplayer game anyway so I might just wait until it's on sale. Didn't even finish Witcher 1 yet as I lost my save which is on Chapter 4.

@hakimix
with your laptop you probably won't be able to play much PC game let alone multiplayer games. go get it upgrade soonest possible!

about the saved games you can actually get it from saved games market. so if you plan to play witcher 2 without replaying witcher 1.. then you can use them. or you can use default neutral witcher 2 decisions.

anyway.. i guess if you happened to upgrade later you probably won't be bother with this game anymore.

Well not for me though. I'll try to buy the games in my wishlist and games which I am interested before but was not capable of running it.

The only downside is not getting the reference/meme as I usually avoid spoilers and such.

ok, so i got witcher 1 at gog. i see gog gives one extra epic game while steam does not give any for purchase of witcher 2. price is the same too.

i am still downloading witcher 1, how about the cdkey/license of the game from gog? i read from faq section from gog telling us not to distribute the game to our friends, it means it boots like jack sparrow version? (drm free ma)

advice my friends smile.gif thank you

GOG version is DRM free but what i read at GOG forum you'll still need to register your CD-key for automatic update/patch, language pack and free DLC too (not sure about the DLC). But registering isn't compulsory. That's why some people still arguing at GOG forum because they think GOG is not entirely honest about the DRM. Another case is some people complain about The Witcher EE DC from GOG didn't provide key for registration, so they can't access the save market.

People will always find something to complain about, the funny thing is there are one user that threaten to cancelled the pre-order if the game doesn't support 16:10, which is the developer still in the middle of fixing it. I have PES 2011 and NFS Hot Pursuit, it doesn't natively support 16:10. But in PES 2011 i can scale it, while NFS HP there is little black bar on top and bottom of the screen. Although it is a little bit annoying but i'll be crazy if i ask refund just because of that little issue.

That would be recommended, as Witcher 2 continues directly where Witcher 1 left off. It will take you like around 20-50 hours though, depending on your pace. biggrin.gif

It's just that maybe it feels a bit boring during the Outskirt of Vizima. Just hold on until you enter the town and you'll be rewarded with good storyline.

Eh, I wouldn't say it's boring outside Vizima either.

I do agree it gets even more exciting once you hit town though.

16:9 is for noob TV style...aka the console style. 16:10 is the PC way of viewing things. only low end LCD use 16:9.

True - amazing value. I myself did not hear of this game until i stumbled into it at TSB in 2008 at ss2 - imagine this - at the time, for rm119 the box included the game dvd, extra content dvd, making-of video (nearly 2hrs), game soundtrack cd, additional music inspired-by cd + the walkthrough book (90+ pages), map (paper) and excerpt from the witcher novel (30+ pages) - a pretty heavy box (compared to the cheap EA game packaging) that i blindly purchased immediately.

But... still at chapter 4 today lol.

Witcher 1 players - who did you side with? The order, the elves or neutral?

I choose order because they're human.

I want to choose Realms of Arkania for the free games, want to taste classic RPG. Beside, i read this game is very complex. Your character need to eat, wear blanket during cold weather etc.

Live stream now. Graphic wise I think this game is quite good even though it only uses DX9, lol they better make it good coz it's not another console port.
