Just buy online from Garage Sales and let 'em ship to you lah... Although going down that road would make anybody's GAS much, much worse (take, for example, my RM250 leap of pure, unwarrantied faith on the PR2s... sweat.gif )

And folderplay gives more volume? On "headphones" and not "line-out" izzit? Din notice that the last time... hmm.gif
*
Oh no wait, my mistake. laugh.gif The volume's the same with the default player. laugh.gif I always have to put the volume at 7, but somehow my ears have gone a bit mor sensitive, I put it on 5 and it was enough.
Anyways the gapless playback worked well on some songs, but you can hear a slight pop on some others. But definitely and improvement and Nokia should really think on putting that capability as an option in the next FW. Some albums play better gapless.

i was thinking of buying online. Maybe later, when I don't live with my parents anymore. laugh.gif

I mean like each day change wallpaper...sth like that. Kinda remember some software being able to do that but wonder if 5800 got.

hey, that works for me. Thanks smile.gif

btw, want to ask this before I update firmware. Is it risky? My phone not updated since I bought it early this year...afraid this update might cause some screen problems to arise...
*
FW update is seldom risky for most of us.
Screen problems are probably more to hardware. I've had more frequent accounts after my first update but after a visit to NCC, it was solved. They changed my LCD module and it v\never happened again, even after 3 more updates.

What FW are you on BTW?

EDIT: Heyyyyy, very minor difference heard playing FLAC. Bass is less muffled.

Yes it is the Nokia maps.
You are only charged for getting a lock on your position. Once the satellites have a lock on your position, they'll track your movement from then on until you are somehow lost from their sight(signal lost) or you shut down the Maps application. Only ~10 sen per lock. After a lcok you are not charged anymore, unless somehow you lost signal and needs a lock again.

Well, if you have PDF, you have to use Adobe Reader.  It'll cost you, though, and alternate versions are hard to find.

You may wanna give ZXReader a look.  It reads text files and works fine, and it's free.

I'm currently using MobiReader.  It's not free and it reads its proprietary PRC format.  Good news is that the S60V3 version works fine (just don't switch to fullscreen) and there are tons of PRC ebooks out there.
Bad news is that MobiReader has been bought over by Amazon and development has stopped so it's probably a dead-end app.

Hope this helps!

But GSMarena says 5800 has remarkable audio quality... meaning they're not quite right?
*
For a non DAP it is quite remarkable. It does still have quite a bit of distortion and stereo separation isn't that great but acceptable.
What makes it great is how neutral it is, staying true to frequency of the audio given. Might sound boring to many others, but professionally it is desirable. That also means we can have high quality materials in there and the phone should be able to play what is meant to be played, make us hear what should be heard, given the proper output hardware.
QUOTE(Dannyl @ Sep 29 2009, 03:10 PM)
i like Folderplay but it doesn't have equaliser settings sad.gif

Lineout is louder for me too.  Level 1 (0 is silence) is already very loud.

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Sep 29 2009, 05:36 PM)
Agreed. I personally prefer the 5800's output to the iTouch's (or any stock SE phones for that matter), but that's me. But any other proper DAP should blow the 5800 clear out of the water,  all things being equal.

As for spending TOO much on headies, Chicaman seems to have no problems pairing his RM3++ RE0 with the 5800 - says it sounds great too. Spending above that on the 5800 ALONE would be wasteful though, at least in my book (the RM1.6k Sennheiser IE8 + 5800 = Preposterous, although somebody over at Head-Fi seems to have tried and it seems to work well enough). But again, SQ is so highly subjective that it's not quite funny anymore.

For instance, there's a whole thread split in half about the 5800 over at Head-Fi. Half raving about the 5800 great, in some cases being even better then the Creative X-Fi, another half saying it's utter crap.

Another problem with headies and their sources is that some IEMs just work swell with SOME sources while working like crap with others.

Granted, my plan to get a Sansa Clip+ or a Fuse is not yet completed, so I can't really say with true conviction that the 5800 is heaven on the ears just yet. And again, it might just be great to my ears (and tunertoobe's).

Hey I'm trying to get my hands on those as well. laugh.gif

*
You can learn. tongue.gif
Audiophile discussion still applies for this thread because Nokia claims it being the best sounding, plus it is a music phone and Nokia did quite seriously try and make it sound good.

& you guys been talkin' bout audio output and input for 3 pages.  sweat.gif
Yay. I bet you played it using smaller size dimensions innit?
How's the quality compared to MPEG4?
Since H.264 uses less space but same quality compared to MPEG4.
*
I tried pushing the size bigger but it won't play. Also the bitrate had to be toned down, to around 1000kbps or under.

However that's not the point. Even with all that toning down, the quality is actually very similar to an MPEG4 encoding, but at half the size on the memory card. The phone doesn't heat up as much either because the low bit rate doesn't require much processing power.

What about the N91?
It was Nokia's king of sound. Until now even the 5800 or the scientifically and theoretically better sounding 5130 have trouble wrestling that title away from it.

SUPER video converter.

Human nature.  nod.gif
Then will ya give us the recommended settings?
1. Dimensions
2. max bitrate

That's why I prefer AVC rather than MPEG4, it's too big. One HD music video from youtube converted is about 40-60mb phew. But awesome quality.  laugh.gif
*
ActuallyI'll give this credit to someone over at Nokia's support discussion. It was based on his tutorial that I got it to work.

The phone can't handle high levels of H.264 encoding. I set the SUPER video converter to encode the videos equivalent to Level 2(refer to H.264 in wikipedia). The video size is supposedly 352x288 but I haven't tried widescreen yet. Haven't tried anything bigger too, only 320x240. Framerate is set to 30fps. The guy said it won't work with 23.976. I tend to avoid anything that is not a whole number.

Now I'm converting a whole movie(Pirates of the Carribean 3, DVD rip) and see which works best at what setting.

No the videos do play full screen but because of the shrinkage of video frame size, there will be pixelations when it is played on the Tube. Because the Tube has a resolution much higher, 640x360.

Very very minor ones.
However it seems to be more prominent in darker scenes. Not really present most of the time.
I'll try and capture screen shots if I can when I'm done.

Maybe I will.
Since with MPEG4 encoding I can use much higher bit rates and resolution, it'll probably look better. But H.264 is al about efficiency. Maybe we don't have to have high bit rates and big resolution to get good looking videos.

It asks for bluetooth?
That sounds more like Garmin. Nokia maps never asks for bluetooth.

Oh wait I see, you have the bluetooth GPS enabled in positioning methods. Just turn that off in the positioning methods menu in "Location"(inside "Apps"). Your maps probably shows white because you don't have any maps. Download "Nokia map loader" from their website.

hi guys, a red tube user. Oledi bought for a few month but still very noob on it cause no time to explore.

Can u guys update me on list of software and games???

btw, how to update software? is it necessary? or just leave it as original when i bought?
*
Not necessary to update firmware. However you are ignoring a very big part in improving the phone. There's a chance that bugs will get fixed, new visual improvements, better performance, etc.
You can update the software by downloading Nokia Software Updater. Plug in your phone via USB in PC Suite mode, start the Software Updater.Follow the instructions. Easy.
