he actually was a box to box midfielder.. impressed along mith messi in the youth world cup.. but his potential still havent exposed yet.. maybe because he is playing a makelele role for chelsea since his debut?

but since watching Diara at RM, he seem more like makelele to me than mikel. Diara seem to be settle well in RM.

i agree with that..
mikel is more talented than him i believe..
but need the right coach to train him..
but diarra is no where near essien class...
Essien, Makelele and Mascherano are at the top class in their position...

Mascherano is totally over rated. you dont seem him scoring super goals like essien. or providing that all important through ball.

for me Essien is still way above Mascherano...
bcause of Essien ability to attack and versatility..
in terms of winning the ball they are more or less the same..

no probs..modestos la..haha

Essien is as strong as Drogba when he's in form..

He can be the provider..He can be the shield..n he also can be the stunner..
Versatile..what else can i say..way2 better than mascherano

mikel's biggest problem in my opinion, is he hasn't had a coach consistently guiding him through his formative years here at chelsea. mourinho/grant/scolari/hiddink never had a chance to really spend time to shape his budding talent. i can tell u right now our young players have definitely been affected in one way or another by our roller coaster style management. it can and will stunt the development of those who lack mental toughness.

like i've said before, each time someone new comes in, EVERYONE has to start from scratch. for the established stars this might not be such a big deal, but put yourself in the shoes of a young hopeful and the effects can be devastating.if we had some managerial continuity, players like salomon kalou and mikel could well be the finished article by now but unfortunately that's not the case.
i'm not trying to make excuses for them but i believe they would have benefited greatly from a long term and dedicated coach who could've unleashed their full potential.

Can i use your siggy too? tongue.gif

Anyway, I'm not worried about mikel at all. He is only 22 and is doing okay(not far from great tho) and still more to come and improve from him. Being able to play regularly for chelsea at this age is considered a very good thing already.

Even lassana diarra didn't get to play much until he joined portsmouth(around 23 years old?) and finally transferred to real madrid, at the age of 24 now.

Versatility simply describes essien. He bosses the midfield, defending and trying to attack. He's like a bull to me smile.gif

i hope the boys are fired up after the weekend's loss to wigan. we must not switch off, try to win every battle on the field like we were up against barcelona. we must bull doze APOEL to show everyone that we're champs!

At least he don't give ball away so easily compare to Mikel, and his passes are more accurate compare to Mikel.

Essien are better than them if he is inform, but i dont think this season Essien is in any form at all even to compare with Diarra. And we used to compare Essien with Gerrard, but no this season. Hopefully he can put some performance in his game after this.

I watch a few RM matches this season, you can see Diara really command their midfield, bring ball up and down., but sometime he do give some hard tackle but he is never as clumsy as Mikel is.

This season although i hate to say so, but only one that i m really impress with is... "Darren Fletcher"

He is the key to MU midfield since last season and he is so in-form this season.

MU are gonna lose matches if without him.

for me the score is not important for this game..
as long as we win and our players are not injured for the next game.. which will be a big game...
