I drive a red SE since May. My all average mileage (urban+hiway) is 9.6lt/100km, 100 % accurate!. Assuming that my hiway mileage is 8.8lt/100 km, therefore a full tank worth of petrol at RM60.00 (33.33lts) would bring 378km only before the orange warning lamp lights up.

They say the Persona has a fuel tank capacity of 50 litres but I disagree as I cannot pump more than 65.00 (36.1lts) into my tank else it spills out.

OK so even assuming 50 litres of tank that would bring about 568km on the hiway, still a far cry from what Proton claimed.

The fuel consumption meter is not to be trusted.

I spent RM 14.75 for the oil filter and gasket drian plug. The oil I bought outside at 42.00 (Castrol Extra 20-50). I have specifically told the SC NOT to put in the engine and autotrans additives, accessories, car wash/engine wash etc etc etc.

Be prudent when you send in your car to Proton SC as they will slap you with a lot of hidden charges!

Yes you can bring your own oil as long as 20W-50. You have to assert, repeat, ASSERT, your rights and do not have to accept the brand that is thrown to you.

They will use the flimsy excuse that the oil you bought from a particular hypermart might be fake and spoil the engine. You can counter by saying that the oil that they are pushing might also be fake or you can challenge them by writing a letter that all oils from that popular hypermart is fake.

Ya... I myself kena twice from SC already, 1000km + 5000km. Ridiculous to our in whole bottle! I went to my regular Ah Beng, told him and he stared at me incredulously... "Yau mou kau chor ahh????" (You kidding me?)

End result, my filter seal area leaked like a sieve. Made a mess of my porch. 3rd time, I bought a new bottle, poured out about 300ml (about 1 1/2 cups worth) and gave the rest to the SC buggers. This time just ngam ngam only. If I don't do this, they'd pour the whoel %^#$@bottle in again!! Damn SC!!

Telling them is pointless as they'd do it anyway.

Best is you'd pour out 300ml of the oil an give the rest to the SC.

Do trust the devil but don't trust SC.

And don't forget to reject the magnet thingy on your 1st service , that'll set you back RM68.00!

Congrats, consider yourself just been robbed.

My Ah Beng does all the above for only costs of material plus maybe RM20 labour. Whole thing take maybe 20 minutes.

Estimated Material cost:

FS Oil - 200
Oil filter - 10
plugs - 16
labour - 20

Estimated RM246 only.

I can confirm with my Ah Beng that it is not possible to install lights for the keyhole as there is no bracket for it. Perhaps other people may have better idea?

If warranty is critical to you, you have to go to Proton SCammer.

Bring your own oil
change oil, filter and plugs only. If not mistaken at 40000km only. Check your manual.

For the above, outside workshop will charge only 20 max for labour. If SCammer charge RM100+ for labour for the same thing, then the warranty is not worth the paper its printed on.

Don't do other things like alignment, car wash etc or the SCammer will charge you an arm and a leg.

Best is to ask for the labour charge 1st! Don't wait till you get the bill.

Why do you need to change the gear oil in your 1st service? Did they just do it or did you ask them to do it?

Manual gear oil no need to change

Yes, free labour for 1k, 5k + 19k servies, provided you don't fall for their famous scams like X1R, magnecrap, car engine wash.

Yes, they always overfill the engine oil. Make sure you pour out a bit, say 0.5 lt then give the remainder for them to fill. Do not trust them not to overfill. Overfilling can damage your engine.

Nothing is accurate in the Persona. They can;t even install the meter cluster properly at the centre. Mine is off center.

I think no one has any concrete answers. My klunking sound was "fixed" 2 months back but only resulted in a 50% reduction in volume and frequency of the noise.

The klunking sound is Proton's way of saying thanks for your continuing support and reminding you to keep buying Proton.

I drive a Red SE. Common problems:

1 Rattling aircon
2 Famous Persona clunking sound
3 Squeaks at the back
4 misaligned meter cluster

As for the tinted film - its a joke! That kind of tinted film you can do outside for only RM150 whole car! Useless under the sun! Got it stripped off and retinted for RM1100. Best money I ever spent.

It exists on the whole range of Persona models, not just the SE.

While the squeaky noise at the back is solvable with electrician's black tape, the famous persona klunking noise is still a great mystery to all of us and is considered unsolvable. It is a built-in design fault I believe.

Some other owners have more problems than me.

And don't forget the infamous Proton SCammers. Be very very careful of them!

Hmmmm.... loongie.... you might have a point. I'll go check out my SE.

Oh yes I forgot the 'kok" sound coming from the lower arm, whenever one drives over a bump.

Here's my hunch for the rattling sound.

There is a loose object inside the blower casing, perhaps a washer? nut? plastic thingy?

Whatever it is, when the blower fan turns the fan blades can and will rub agaist the loose object causing the rattling sound.

However sometimes either the moving air or one of the blades dislodge the loose object. The object makes a loud "CLACK" sound as it strikes the casing wall. There it lodges against another crevice. As you drive, the car movement sometimes also can dislodge the object and if the fan blades strike the object it causes the annoying rattling sound again.

The rattling and CLACK sound is totally random and caused by both the blades as well as car movements. The rattling was already there when I collected my car from the dealer. Didn;t think much of it at that time.

So far I have not opened the casing at Proton SCammer but one of these days I will get to the bottom of this.

Has anyone tried go there to get the blower casing open?

You're lucky you get a relatively trouble free car but since your one is only 1 1/2 months old, perhaps the problem have yet to come up. Of course hopefully they won't.

Still its easy for you to advise people to buy another car, but not when the next nearest equivalent car, perhaps a Toyota Vios, is at least 25-30k more expensive, no thanks to gahmen protectionism.

My volume reduction button on the steering wheel sometimes function as a Pause button. No idea why. My SE has got so many nagging problems... not to mention to infamous klunking noise. And my car only a few months old only Sighhhhh!!!

They should change the the name from Proton Persona to Proton Problema.

To be honest I do have a lot of gripes about the Persona but like heavencloud says overall, its okay.

Persona is a good car with modern technology and great handling characteristics let down by shoddy build quality and nitty gritty problems.
