New D5000 User here
any tips of the handling and picture capturing? i quite a beginner here.
thx
Well, just shoot and shoot, keep shooting until you can fully utilize and make your kit lens shines. All of us began as a beginner too, still remember the 1st day I get my D40... All underexposed, keep shooting lens cap =.=
Now still noob, but got more experience already.

Owh, about the noobs carrying DSLR, i have a case here...
In my hostel there's one noob, real noob you know, he's carrying Canon EOS 500D. 500D is not cheap, it's not entry level, so i guess the user should have some skills in his hand. That time was a photography club photonight, so he brought his one and we all brought our cams.
So i see he's carrying the most expensive one among us (we are all using D40/D60/sony A300), then I borrowed and play play...
And while im playing... he told me this 500D is his 2nd body, he owned a Nikon D70 before and his little brother is using it

He is only 18 this year u know. SO i think he is really experienced.
But... he asked me this thing...
"WHAT IS SHUTTER SPEED AND APERTURE?"I let him za dao gg... Then i see his camera play back, all OOF or under/overexposed. Then we explained to him about 15 minutes, he keep asking the same questions... After changing BODY, from D70 (u know how old is D70, means he got in touch with DSLR very early) to 500D, he still dunno what is shutter speed...
Pity huh? The 500D is wasted on his hands... And at night, no light source, he doesn't use flash, use AUTO mode bump ISO... And you know the outcome =)
