Anyone know where can get cheap lens cap? I lost my 52mm lens cap.... Found soem shop selling for RM90 =.=

I don't need original Nikon lens cap, as long as it fits nicely into my lens and can protect my lens. Someone pm-ed me tarita in Lowyat plaza sells for RM39, i wonder is there any cheaper one =)

Have you try with a tripod?
*
I don't think it's convenient to use a tripod here... He wants to take photos of the people sitting in a table, not like a photoshooting session or studio shoot...

IMO you have some choices:
1. If the place is totally dark, with extremely dim light (very very dim orange light etc) you should use your pop up flash, set the flash compensation to a few stops lower depending on the situation. if you don't like the harsh flash maybe you can DIY a diffuser or bouncer for it. Better, get a cheap external flash like Nissin Di622.

2. If you don't like to use flash, use the widest aperture (lowest F number) and boost up the ISO. But by doing this you will sacrifice the IQ, since the photo will be noisy. Lower the shutter speed to about 1/30~1/50 depending on the situation. Suggestion: use aperture priority mode, uso AUTO ISO and the lowest F number, and let D60 decide the shutter speed. With a steady hand 1/30 should not be a problem

3. Just turn the dial to night mode (no flash), let the automode do the job. (high noise)

thanks,

1. hmm might have a look at the cheap external flash.

2. yeah the high ISO is pretty annoying, pictures turned out grainy. will test the A mode again, i think i did try it just now though, forgot.

3. night mode portrait flash is too harsh lol. DIY diffuser is possible on built-in flash ah?
*
There's one mode (not night portrait) called AUTO flash off. The icon is like a restricted sign with lightning. It adjusts ISO and shutter speed automatically while not using the flash. So it's more to the auto mode...

There's pop-up flash diffuser for sale, but if i recall correctly it's not cheap/not worth it... try google "nikon pop up flash diffuser" or search in garage sales, i forgot the price. Erm if you want DIY you can try google it, i didn't make one b4 so I don't know.

Ya ya the reload card will do the job... but only when the ceiling is not too high, if not the effect will be minimized. getting a flashgun is the best and one-time-go solution anyway..

Great explaination but for the last one got abit problem.

My opinion with external flash is sometimes the flash can only highlight nearest subject, how about the background?thats why we use High iso to highlight some details on the back.

For example,in the hall with high ceiling,we know that our flash cant bounce that high and have to use exposure lock button(to use the flash as fill flash), the shutter speed will be too slow and the subject will become like blur blur. This is when the High Iso can do its job.

My 2 cent, still young and learning.Hope some taiko can teach me more stuff. notworthy.gif
*
That's right. Yesterday I just went Jalan Alor after going lowyat to eat, and when I captured my friends in ISO 200 with external flash only my friend and then table were illuminated, the background is very dark... Increased to ISO 400 then ok le ^.^ Still learning to shoot in dark condition~

Im using di622 and yeah, must manually set the power of the flashgun and trigger it using the built-in flash. But the cons is that the built-in flash is too harsh, causing the subject to be overexposed sometimes.

And i dunno why, di622 cannot be triggered when the built-in flash's power is manually set (not TTL)... I'm frustrating about this...

one more thing... if a nikon DSLR has commander function, then it can wirelessly trigger a CLS-compatible flashgun (like SB600/900) without the use of built-in flash? Purely infrared or wad?

New D5000 User here  tongue.gif  biggrin.gif

any tips of the handling and picture capturing? i quite a beginner here.  tongue.gif

thx
*
Well, just shoot and shoot, keep shooting until you can fully utilize and make your kit lens shines. All of us began as a beginner too, still remember the 1st day I get my D40... All underexposed, keep shooting lens cap =.=

Now still noob, but got more experience already.

*********************

Owh, about the noobs carrying DSLR, i have a case here...
In my hostel there's one noob, real noob you know, he's carrying Canon EOS 500D. 500D is not cheap, it's not entry level, so i guess the user should have some skills in his hand. That time was a photography club photonight, so he brought his one and we all brought our cams.

So i see he's carrying the most expensive one among us (we are all using D40/D60/sony A300), then I borrowed and play play...
And while im playing... he told me this 500D is his 2nd body, he owned a Nikon D70 before and his little brother is using it doh.gif He is only 18 this year u know. SO i think he is really experienced.

But... he asked me this thing...

"WHAT IS SHUTTER SPEED AND APERTURE?"
I let him za dao gg... Then i see his camera play back, all OOF or under/overexposed. Then we explained to him about 15 minutes, he keep asking the same questions... After changing BODY, from D70 (u know how old is D70, means he got in touch with DSLR very early) to 500D, he still dunno what is shutter speed...

Pity huh? The 500D is wasted on his hands... And at night, no light source, he doesn't use flash, use AUTO mode bump ISO... And you know the outcome =)

No need to declare, last 2 week I go by car also nothing much to check.

Orchard Road night scene is nice though especially the ION Orchard building. The pedestrian path is wide enough for you to stretch your tripod without disturbing other.

You can also visit the Merlion by taking MRT and walk for some distance, look for map at hotel lobby if you are going for free and easy trip. smile.gif

Wow, thanks for your tips =)
I am going for an anime event, if i have extra time i will visit merlion =D
