Manual focus will be challenging as one has to depend on the built in rangefinder. These focusing screens without the "split screen" are not designed for manual focus.

Used flash quite a lot depends on luck as the only way to test it is to repeatedly fire the flash and see if it overheats. I do have a more than 10 year old metz flash that still works well and also have a really old minolta flash that I bought a couple of years ago. But anyway, the Nissin Di-622 is a very decent flash for the price if you are worried about condition of the used flashes this is a good choice at that price. QUOTE(raptorclans @ Sep 29 2009, 10:24 PM) Wow... RM500 sounds attractive... but I dono wat to look for when it comes to 2nd hand flash (me looking to buy a speedlite soon too)

I'm guessing at that price Di866 should be better in build quality than the Di622. QUOTE(raptorclans @ Sep 30 2009, 01:11 PM) I'm aiming for the Di866 actually... should have similar build quality as the Di622 rite?
Added on September 30, 2009, 10:49 pmFrom the comparison in Ken Rockwell's site, it would seem to me like the D40 and D3000 are using 2 different noise reduction algorithms. The comparison seems to be in one particular lighting condition so I don't think it is enough to draw a conclusion on the noise reduction performance of the 2 cameras. QUOTE(dukunet @ Sep 30 2009, 10:38 PM) when hi iso will be useful? still learning... normally we'll taking pictures on low iso rite? This post has been edited by project-o: Sep 30 2009, 10:49 PM

Both of these are "Normal" lenses which are close to our eye viewing angle. 35 is for DX Crop frame and 50 is for full frame (FX). A 50mm will have approx 75mm viewing angle on DX body whereas 35mm DX prime lens will have approx 50mm viewing angle on FX body. QUOTE(Zi-Tech @ Oct 2 2009, 03:41 PM) i want to know what exactly difference between 35 and 50 mm f1.8 lens?

In general, the softest point of the lens is when it is "wide open" as in open to the max aperture. So for an f1.8 lens f1.8 is the softest point and it starts getting sharper from f2.8 onwards. For the 35 f1.8 the best performance is between f3.5 to f5.6. In general those lenses like standard zooms that have an aperture of f5.6 at the long end are sharpest between f8 to f10. QUOTE(faiz92 @ Oct 3 2009, 02:38 AM) ofcuz more blur. but F1.8 too soft for product picture, need F2 and above right? i read somewhere in the forum that for F1.8 lens,it is sharp at F2 or F2.5. For F2.8 lens,it is sharp at F3.5-F4? hope some sifu can teach me too

My Opinion :- Take the Nissin Di622. Power, etc...is about the same. Main disadvantage is Nissin Di622 can't be fired by most radio triggers. QUOTE(dukunet @ Oct 5 2009, 02:26 AM) thanks guys... majority (all actually) voted for flash, it is now on top of my shopping list.... planning to buy nissin di622 or sb600... prefer di622 because cheaper... wht do u guys think? will start research for both flash 2morow...

Not sure about pocket wizard but the Cactus one and another brand I'm using and also slave sensor trigger doesn't work. Anyway... .the built-in TTL slave function works beautifully to make up for that. QUOTE(jsc_tidus @ Oct 5 2009, 02:33 PM)

Set to manual. Read somewhere that not all triggers will work with it. Anyway same trigger on SB-600 works fine. QUOTE(faiz92 @ Oct 5 2009, 03:26 PM) did u set the flash as manual or still ttl when using cactus? Added on October 5, 2009, 7:25 pmIf I'm not mistaken, the lower speed Sandisk is called Ultra II. Extreme series is for higher speeds. QUOTE(HosieryGuy @ Oct 5 2009, 04:26 PM) Take a short walk in Low Yat itself ... I think I saw some Nissin around but can't remember which shop today. Added on October 5, 2009, 4:31 pmHi all sifus, I just bought a D5000 couple days ago. First impression - the camera is really great, good quality picture. My previous toy was Nikon Coolpix 4300 ..... yeah ... my 6 yrs son inherited from me Just a question - the SDHC that come with it is a SanDisk Extreme III 4GB 30MB/s version. I don't plan to shot any movie at all with this D5000, so is it possible for me to get any other SDHC with slower speed? E.g. Extreme III 20MB/s .... Appreciate any input ... thanks! For much much more than the price of f1.8 lens the f1.4 should be sharper to justify that price. QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Oct 8 2009, 05:24 PM) Oic.. That's why last time I read about f1.4 lens, it's sharper than f1.8 lens at f1.8.. Right?

Have any of you tested this lens before ? If the 18-270VC is anything to go buy, Tamron has improved the AF motor speed already. Anyway this new 17-50 f2.8 VC looks a bit pricey even though it is much cheaper than the Nikkor. QUOTE(General_Nic @ Oct 14 2009, 10:46 PM) never doubt Tamron optics i think Tamron sacrifice focusing speed n build quality so to be able to sell great optics lens at low price

Can... as long as your Di622 is set to "slave" and your built in flash set to TTL or Red eye reduction. QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Oct 26 2009, 03:15 PM) Guys, can Di622 act as a wireless flash? With my D3000..

When flash is on press the mode button to set the power level and then press and hold until the power level light starts to blink indicating slave mode. You can then use the mode button to control the flash power to be used on the slave. QUOTE(FaezFarhan @ Oct 26 2009, 08:09 PM) Thanks for the reply.. Btw, how to set the Di622 as slave?

The 35 and 50mm f1.8 lenses are totally different lenses. 50mm on DX is approx 75mm which is approx double the focal length of the 35mm. 35 for DX is more of a "normal" lens whereas the 50 is more of a portrait and medium tele lens. Anyway having used both, I prefer the 35mm in terms of image quality and a smoother bokeh. At f1.8 you will see the big difference. QUOTE(silver_de_gene @ Oct 27 2009, 02:26 AM) check this out. the difference in 50mm and 35mm lens. let's say my next target would be either af-s 35mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8. the difference between 35mm and 50mm is so much. is it advicable to go 50mm instead eventhough i can't af. http://www.photomalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99975 This post has been edited by project-o: Oct 27 2009, 10:04 AM
