35mm f2D is this lens. Full frame 35mm lens. If I'm not mistaken you can stick it back to the barrel using double sided tape. It is probably worn and expanded as there is a lot of zoom ring movement for a lens with such a wide range.

How much did the D5000 kit cost you anyway ? I saw it on listed on Shashinki today at RM 2798 (no mention of free gifts). I'm wondering if there has been a price drop on this model b'cos I remember the price being around RM 3000.
Since you got the 35mm f1.8 lens, I suggest that you start by learning to control the aperture and the depth of field at the same time using the Aperture Priority or A mode. The more you shoot with this lens the more you will like it. Like the rest, I also would advise you to keep the 18-55kit lens with VR added, it is a very versatile wide-angle lens and sell it only when you are ready to move up to either maybe the 18-105VR or the 18-200VRII. Can try reading this for a start for an better understanding of ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture. I'm a real noob here at photography, just bought an entry level Nikon D5000 55mm kit + Nikkor 35mm/1.8f lense. I have a couple of noob questions that I hoped the sifus here can share : 1) Should I keep the original 55mm lense or sell it? (I kinda prefer the pics with the 35mm but the 55mm has 3x zoom & wide angle) 2) Any helpful sites / threads where I can learn more about basic photography skills & tactics so I can make full use of this camera? thanks ronn |

B'cos the models like D60,D40 and D3000 use a CCD sensor. D90, D300s and D5000 are using a CMOS sensor and better noise reduction technology.
QUOTE(tun @ Dec 1 2009, 06:48 AM) Added on December 1, 2009, 10:05 amAnyway flash and the 17-50 f2.8 have different functions. But if you do get Tamron 17-50 I suggest you buy the VC one which is the improved version compared to the built in motor model. Heard about that too. Price of D300s now is between RM5000-5200 depending on store. Anyway... for me... out of budget, D90 is a more likely upgrade.

To add a bit to what zellleonhart posted most lenses have a "sweet spot" aperture between f8-f12 depending on the lens. That would be the best sharpness. When your lens is stopped down too much (smaller aperture like f22, f36) it will cause diffraction which will cause the image to be blur.
Not sure about Yongnuo flash but I'm using a radio trigger by this brand. Pretty good. QUOTE(C.P.U @ Dec 2 2009, 08:54 PM) This post has been edited by project-o: Dec 3 2009, 12:05 AM |

The 2 lenses should be able to work. The speedlight should work also but you won't support CLS. The SB-26 has a built in slave so it can be a second flash to maybe and SB-600 or 900 that you decide to buy.
The 2 Nikkor lenses that you have are very sharp lenses and will serve you well. To get a wider angle you can buy another 18-X lens. QUOTE(D-Tourist @ Dec 3 2009, 08:28 PM) Anyone knows whether the old accessories used in SLR (film) as follows is compatible with new models of DSLR such as D90/D300:- -Nikon Speedlight SB-26 -AF Nikkor 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5D -AF Nikkor 70-210mm 1:4-5.6D -MB-10 -Multi-Control Back, MF-26 these models are over a decade old in decent condition. So if usable, then it would be a waste to buy a whole new sets of lens and speedlight Appreciate it if someone knows whether they are also usable for DSLR |

Also it would be better if you unplug the battery of your notebook or DSLR when it is in the bag.

It detects the magnetic field created by the device when the battery is plugged in. If you put a sensitive compass near a device when it is plugged in also you will see the needle start to move.

Yes... I agree the Sigma has least vignetting and one of the best wide-open performances among the 50mm lenses. But when testing with my D40 the lens is so big that there isn't much space left between the handgrip and the lens.

Maybe I was one of the lucky ones. Besides the relatively long waiting period (1st time 1 month, 2nd time 3 weeks) I think I have a relatively good experience with Nikon Service.
