To Fully enjoy your Full HD TV, use only Full HD devices like PS3 (for Full HD games & BD movies) or BD player (BD movies).
But that only is not enough, your source that you're playing must be in Full HD as well (HD Ready is enough actually) In order to play the HD source, HDMI cable must be connected as HDMI brings lossless/uncompressed HD audio and video to your receiver and TV. Astro is not a Full HD source. the quality is only DVD standard (worst), you can't see any HDMI or any digital output on the Astro decoder showing how outdated Astro is. So, for Astro, CRT is still a better choice, HD TV won't do any good, but CRT is an old technology, (considering many people are more into HD nowadays) you wouldn't want to stuck with a nearly 90 year old technology don't you? |

If you have a Blu-Ray player of course you need a Blu-Ray discs. If you're talking about format, maybe you meant Blu-Ray rip. The most common files for Blu-Ray rip is .MKV.

To download these files, you simply cannot use the normal way of download..it will take weeks. There are also other more pure formats like ts, VC1 etc thats bigger file and need more advance media players to play. |

AAC/Dolby Digital decodes in 2 channel output only what does it mean an audio receiver is required for surround .. if i use 5.1 pc speaker can get surround o not ? I even doubt that a FHD 32inch has any difference with a HD one...wanna get for movies...PLASMA for the win. Check out VIERA TH-P42S10K...its goes for RM3000++.....thats cheap bro considered 2 years back a similar speced cost RM10K. 2. 1080p mkv is in a class by itself....do not compare it to its master 'The Bluray Disc' Currently Bluray gives the best PQ...the ultimate now. Viewing mkv files comes close to Bluray...but then again, you will not get the bonus stuff Bluray has to offer. Believe me, for peasants like us, mkv is the next best thing. Nowadays, some players (like a AC Ryan) can even decodes Bluray Iso as well...now...thats great. 3.Most 1080p files (or even 720p) comes with either Dolby Digital or DTS. To enjoy the surround sound, connect the WDTV to an amp that has a optical in and can decode DD and DTS...you can check out the amps if its able to decode from the logo on it. As for the connection, do check it out first before getting a media player. Not all amp has optical connections...some uses Coaxial Digital instead WDTV can decode Dolby digital and send it out in stereo mode using the red and white cables...but if you want surround, you need an amp to do it using optical connections. See the picture of the Xtreamer above post...there is a Red and white connections that has been decoded by the media player..it is stereo...but for the surround, there is the Digital Audio Optical Most media player only decodes DD to stereo....if its DTS, then its pass thru the optical cable to be connected to an amp.....its all abt Licensing issues...DTS charges a hefty price for it Yes HDMI has sound, and you can plug the WDTV to an amp as well...but take note, you will be getting sound from two sources now, its best to lower one of them. As for me, I found out that my amp decodes DD is a bit slow, but sound on on the LCD is just right....so I tune down the LCD sound a bit to mix with the speakers from the amp. You really wanna get the WDTV?...I think the ACRYAN is better...its available end of this month at abt RM600++. Take note..you need HDD as well Astro decoder?...err..I dun get what you mean... ` This post has been edited by azbro: Sep 4 2009, 08:17 PM |

QUOTE(sheahann @ Sep 4 2009, 08:24 PM) wow .. good reply .. For 32inch I really dun recommend any...but do tell us what model you want to get?...sure 32inch?...its so yesterday...now .. lets say i got no choice and have to use 32inch LCD ... does the LCD FullHD and normal LCD got big impact interm of quality ? then .. i wanna save on home theatre .. can i use the 5.1channel Logitech X-540 speaker and get an output of sound ? from the LCD or WDTV ? thx If you want to connect it Astro...check you decoder first...whats the best Video output connector it has?...most of the time is the S-Video...so make sure when you buy the LCD it has a S-Video in as well. Or else you will be left with those nasty Yellow RCA cable. FYI, other than Bluray Players, Media Player most of the members also use HTPC....so if your Computer at home is up to it, you can use it too and save the money for a graphic card that has HDMI ouput. I'm not sure of the X540, but as I say, to enjoy DD and DTS, you need to use the optical cables and the amp must be able to decode DD and DTS. Does the X540 have DTS and Dolby Digital Logo?...Does it have an optical in for audio? Make you check all the specs of what you need before buying anything....doing a little homework, googling and asking in forums and save you a lot of money and misery. Frankly speaking specs are not everything, you need to check the background of it as well...example..Philips amps and Home theater has DTS logo, but in actual, doesn't play it very well |

QUOTE(sheahann @ Sep 4 2009, 08:24 PM) wow .. good reply .. Firstly, you should consider getting 37inch instead of 32inch (unless the problem is space). Price difference is minimal and 37inch is much nicer to watch than 32inch.now .. lets say i got no choice and have to use 32inch LCD ... does the LCD FullHD and normal LCD got big impact interm of quality ? then .. i wanna save on home theatre .. can i use the 5.1channel Logitech X-540 speaker and get an output of sound ? from the LCD or WDTV ? thx When you see in shops, 32inch looks okay since the whole place is filled with TVs; your sense of size won't work well in a shop. Likewise, 42inch TVs look rather small in shops, but look massive in a house (especially if its your first TV of that size). If you want surround, you might want to consider buying those cheaper 5.1 units. Using with Logitech isn't impossible, but the sound quality falls a little flat. IINM, Sony and Philips have cheap HT that don't need much space (Philips has an Rm600 one and Sony has an Rm800 one). |

azbro - Many thanks for the essential education on HD & HD files for a noobie like me.
Can PM me your contact for high speed servers subscription that comes in a range of RM25~40 for a month. Too bad my bedroom don't have space for a 42", nevertheless Samsung LA32B650 is just right for the tight bedroom space. Some more it plays many files without media player or pc. Just plug in the HDD or thumbdrive into the USB port. No need so many wires or many remote controllers. It is not even hook up to any device. No DVD/Bluray player, no asstro cable, no any cable/wires except the LCD power cord! Next thing is to get that samsung wireless LAN adaptor to stream movies, music & pictures stored on the PC and access the internet. Seriously guy, I hope to see more manufacturer especially Panasonic having all the above features.
