A handful of you guys got it right in the Facebook survey: The newest addition to the EA part of the GOG.com catalogue is Lands of Lore 1 and 2 for only $5.99.

In Lands of Lore 1: The Throne of Chaos your main objective is to stop the Dark Army led by the evil sorceress Scotia. You’ll need to save the life of Gladstone Keep monarch, King Richard (voiced by The Patrick Stewart) who was poisoned by the shape-shifting witch. Your party of up to three heroes will embark on an epic quest to find the cure. Choose from four different characters, a dragon-lizard hybrid Dracoid named Ak’shel who specializes in spellcraft, a human-feline hybrid--a Huline, as they’re called in the Lands of Lore universe--named Kieran, and two humans: the warrior Michael and the jack-of-all-trades Conrad. There is no typical levelling system in place, instead the game uses a skill-centric approach. Performing melee weapon attacks increases the fighting skills, and casting spells boosts your magic stats.

Lands of Lore 2: Guardians of Destiny takes the dungeon crawling experience you love and evolves it into the third dimension with real-time 3D graphics. This time you are Luther, the son of main villainess from the first Lands of Lore game. Your mother left you with a gargantuan task to perform: tame the God of Evil, Belial, whose revival rituals were started by your mother. With the gift of shapeshifting and another god’s help (Draracle, the keeper of Belial) it’s your job to stop the annihilation of the world as we know it. Although you’re the son of a master villainess, you don’t have to be evil; the story will let you choose your destiny as you interact with the world and decide whether to be a hero championing the cause of good, or a villain who wants to rule the world in an iron fist.

Good Old Games (GOG) has announced that it will begin pursuing more new games to sell DRM-free, thanks to the success of The Witcher 2 on the site, which sold 40,000 copies, more than all other non-Steam distributors combined. While the digital distributor will also be looking for more older titles to add to its catalog, it'll be looking for exclusive release opportunities with certain developers.

According to GOG managing director Guillaume Rambourg at an investor meeting, "GOG.com has been performing very well the last three years, as we've mentioned previously both at CD Projekt conferences and at venues like the London Games Conference last week. We have an audacious plan for the the next two years to continue GOG.com's success story, and that depends on three things.

"First, we will be adding newer games into the catalog in 2012. Traditionally, GOG.com has looked for great classics that are three years old or older. We will continue to add classic games, of course, but we are actively working to sign newer titles now. Of course, these new titles will have to come at a new, higher price point, but our key focus will always be on the same core values that have made GOG.com great so far: completely DRM-free games, flat prices everywhere in the world, and extra content and goodies for our fantastic customers.

"Second, the consistent growth that GOG.com has had since we launched in 2008 has been a great success story. We've been profitable since our first month, and the fact that we've come from nowhere to bring over a million classic gamers to our website every month and over six million games downloaded proves that gamers want an alternative to the usual digital distributors. The new camera makes the game more accessible to everyone, giving you an easier time while maneuvering between buildings or while engaged in a shoot-out. The campaign is divided into several challenging missions, in which you'll need to use your wit and your different characters' special abilities. Most of the missions let you choose a variety of avenues of approach for each of objective given. Desperados 2 is still a combat-oriented game, so if you don’t have a good idea how to beat the mission in the stealthy way, try the hard way and just get in there guns a-blazing!

In what we can only assume to be a charitable act made in the spirit of the holidays, the Aleph One engine, which powers Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon Infinity and a fan remake of the original Marathon, is now available to download (alongside the aforementioned games) for free. The distribution of the engine -- assumedly approved by Bungie, who just shared it through the studio's Twitter account -- is made possible thanks to its GNU General Public License.

All three games are available for PC, Mac and Linux -- as well as the iPad, thanks to an open-source project completed this past summer -- so there's really no reason for you not to check them out. Unless, of course, you can only find satisfaction through thoroughly illegal piracy. We can role-play, if that makes it any easier. "No! Don't download all those games for free! That's illegal, you bad, bad buccaneer."

The most visible change from Gothic 2 is the new graphics engine, which looks stunning even now. The rich, vivid world of Myrtana is open for you to explore, but be aware of the dangerous beasts and monsters lurking deep inside the wilderness. You are free to go wherever you want, and lots of side-quests are available to lengthen your playthrough. Experience a great open-world RPG where your decisions can alter the course of a whole continent.

Perhaps "remade" isn't the best word to describe what the team at Infamous Adventures has done to Sierra's 1987 classic Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge. "Lovingly rebuilt," perhaps, or "delicately hand-milled," if such a term can be considered applicable in a programming sense. (We've decided it can.)

Infamous Adventures' reproduction features "hand-drawn backgrounds, hand animated characters, a full voice pack featuring over 4,000 recorded lines and a whole lot of extras," according to the group's official website. We don't know what's more touching, the fact that a small group of people completely rejiggered a classic out of love for the original, or that the fruits of their labor can be downloaded for free.

Watch those system requirements, though, as the PC version requires a whole meg of RAM.

There’s a million aliens out there thirsting for your blood; can you slaughter your way to the exit?
