QUOTE(Angel of Deth @ Oct 1 2011, 09:58 PM)
One of many thing that i like from GoG is the community, it's very matured and helpful. Last week, 7 days before Witcher 2.0 release date there was a user who make give-away for Witcher 2 each day in that period. Each single day there will be 2 first place winners, the prize is copy of Witcher 2 from whichever digital download distributor from winner's choosing. And 2nd place is $12 worth of games from GoG for 4 different user. That mean, each day there will be 6 winners.
And since i already own a copy of Witcher 2, i asked to be enrolled in 2nd place give-away. Yesterday, the last day of the give-away i'm one of 4 lucky persons for 2nd place. The person who make the give-away must be really generous. He spent around $900 just for the give-away. There are plenty of other giveaway and quiz at GoG too. But usually, i have no luck since mostly the there will be only 1 winner.
*
Congratulations.

I should go there more often as well.

New release: SimCity 2000 Special Edition

QUOTE
Surprise, surprise! We have one more EA classic that was tucked away, but we decided not to wait with it till the next wave of EA greatness comes by. That's how cool we are wink.gif

We believe we could end this newspost at the title, as we're pretty sure everyone is familiar with the SimCity franchise. But if you lived the past 20+ years under a rock and somehow you don't know what the fuss is all about let us explain:

SimCity 2000 Special Edition is the second installment, and way superior than its predecessor, of the most popular city building sim series by Maxis. You play the role of the mayor of a new municipality, starting in 1900. Your task is to expand your small village into a bustling metropolis, and manage it so the citizens are happy and willing to live in it. You're responsible for building housing districts and commercial facilities as well as power plants, streets, bus depots, and more. You need to set and raise taxes and allocate the money cleverly so the city grows.

SimCity 2000 introduced many enhancements to the series. First the view has been changed from a top-down to isometric which allows you to fully customize the terrain before you start the new city. Plenty of new types of facilities now include schools, hospitals, zoos, museums, colleges, and even prisons. Thanks to underground layer you can now build subway and utilities like water pipes under the city. Also your city is not the only one on the map, and you have to build links with other municipalities to increase trade and population. Last but not least, prepare yourself and your city for earthquakes, floods, fire, and other disasters like monster invasion, as they do like to happen--and usually at the worst possible time.

If you want to take a break from expanding your city, you can play one of many pre-made scenarios that are included in the special edition of the game. Some of those scenarios are based on real life events, like the 1989 Hurricane Hugo hitting Charleston in South Carolina or the 1991 Oakland firestorm, and some are just made up by the developer as Hollywood being attacked by a giant robot or nuclear power station major meltdown in center of Manhattan!

But that's not all: SimCity 2000 Special Edition on GOG.com also includes the SimCity Urban Renewal Kit which lets you modify the images used in-game to represent various buildings. Now you can create your own basic bitmap representing your childhood house, your school, or your favorite monument. All that and much more is available now for only $5.99.

New release: POD Gold

QUOTE
Only on GOG, a new game release can bring so many memories from back in the days. So who remembers the times of Pentium MMX?

POD Gold also known as Planet of Death is a futuristic racer with a plot. The game takes place in the future on a planet called Io. A mining accident unleashes a deadly virus which threatens the whole planet population. After a massive exodus from the planet, only one seat in the very last rescue spaceship remains. This seat will be taken by the winner of a dangerous race in which you're taking part. Maybe it's not an Oscar winning script but come on, it's a racer smile.gif In POD it's all about speed - you drive one of 16 turbocharged machines through 32 tracks in full 3D environment, fighting for the top spot. When released, POD was the first game making use of the Pentium MMX technology, and later on, one of the titles with 3D acceleration. Based on this POD was often used as an example of what the computers in the late 90's could do. Today you can check the "hi-end technology of the 90's" and have fun while blasting 300 mph through the futuristic tracks for only $5.99.

Leisure Suit Larry Returns With Al Lowe's Support

user posted image

QUOTE
Larry Laffer is an icon from the golden era of adventure gaming, but the series' recent appearances have been disappointing. Thankfully, the future is looking better for Larry.

According to EGM, developer Replay Games has obtained the rights to Leisure Suit Larry, and will kick off a revival of the character with an HD remake of the first game, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. The game will hit on "every platform Replay can figure out how to port it on," like XBLA, PSN, PC, and iOS.

Assuming that the remake performs well enough, the team at Replay has plans to remake the other games in the series, and even create new adventures for the lovable loser Larry.

One of the (many) reasons that the recent Larry games were awful was the lack of participation from series creator Al Lowe. That mistake won't happen again. Replay Games' CEO Paul Trowe has secured Lowe's assistance for the studio's upcoming Larry-related projects. “Al and I are working very closely on this, to make sure every Larry game is the best," says Trowe. "The remake of the original Leisure Suit Larry is going to kick so much ass, the entire world will have to play it standing up. And buy new pants. And a cushion. Seriously, we’re really excited about this.”

Don't make the mistake of assuming that Larry games were all about sex. They were extremely funny, and had clever puzzles to boot. The return of Larry in classic form is great news for gamers.

The remake is set for a release sometime in 2012, which happens to be the series' 25th anniversary.

MDK 2 HD finally coming to PC ... tomorrow
QUOTE
Okay, so MDK 2 HD, the high definition remake of the Dreamcast classic, obviously didn't make its planned September launch. You're angry, no doubt, but would it help to know that it's actually coming out tomorrow, October 12? Well, good news then, because it is, and it will available exclusively via the Beamdog download service for $15.

Aside from the new HD graphics – which look pretty great, incidentally – the game now features enhanced audio and tweaked difficulty. Specifically, the game's description promises that "now Easy really is Easy, while Hard is BONE CRUSHING!" Check out a new trailer above and peruse some HD comparison screenshots in the gallery below.

New release: Darklands

QUOTE
I guess you’ve never been to 15th Century Greater Germany, huh? Me neither, but now you have a chance to explore its breadth and depth to the fullest! We present to you the ultimate open world historic RPG: Darklands!

Historically accurate representation of medieval greater Germany lets you go from zero to hero over the course of your adventure. No wizards, elves, dwarfs, or other nonsense “fantasy.” This game is (more or less) realistic in terms of what it throws at you, rather than using the same “Evil wizard wants to take over the world” plot. This is all about gaining fame and becoming a noble medieval hero or a black knight terrorizing the commoners! Superstitions and beliefs of a 15th century greater Germany is what you will be up against while traveling the countryside. Alchemy replaces magic, although there is witchcraft, which those bad cultists use to aid them in their unholy demon summoning rituals.

The character creation process is unique as well. You don’t have to start as an Level 1 Warrior, instead you choose one of six family backgrounds (ranging from a farmer to a noble prince) which affects the initial range of occupations that shape your character as you wish. You can either choose to make a young noble prince, that yearns to become a hero (giving you more time to train him up) or make a team of qualified mercenaries that already are capable in swordsmanship. If you’re not into elaborate character creation you can use the Quickstart option to begin the game with a default set of characters that are just right for everything. Apart from characteristics, your heroes are defined by skills. Skills play a very big role in Darklands, as they’re used for a success/failure check in nearly all actions you will execute in medieval Germany, but don’t fret you train no matter if you succeed or fail a particular task.

Music is based on original tunes from the 15th Century and the graphics are clean, with a notable mention of the watercolour-like background pictures. Combat is real-time/turn-based just like Baldur’s Gate, incorporating a Pause button that you may press at any time so you can order your team around, and the game uses an isometric view to show you the battlefield.

If you’re looking for a little adventure in your life, don’t hesitate and try Darklands: Heroic Role-Playing Adventures In Medieval Germany for $5.99 and immerse yourself in a deep and sophisticated medieval experience!

XIII: Lost Identity announced

QUOTE
Anuman Interactive has announced that XIII: Lost Identity will be released on PC, Mac and iOS in November.

It is unknown whether the game is related to XIII, the graphic novel first person shooter based on a Belgian comic book of the same name, which was released for PC, Xbox and GameCube. However, it is known that Anuman joined Media Participations Group in 2009, which owns comic book publisher Dargaud, who owns the rights to XIII.

Anuman has published mostly adventure games under its banner, so it could be that XIII: Lost Identity won't be a shooter, but a graphic adventure.

Strategy Informer will follow this story and update it when new information comes in.

New release: Little Big Adventure 2

QUOTE
We promised it would be coming soon--and here it is! Today we’re adding to the catalog Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen’s Odyssey, released in full EFIGS glory.

After Twinsen defeated the evil Dr. FunFrock it seemed like everyone would live happily ever after until a sudden cloudstorm covered the Citadel Island horizon. Your flying Dino friend from the first Little Big Adventure, is hit by a bolt of lightning and crashes into Twinsen’s garden. Upon investigating, Twinsen finds out that something strange is lurking above the planet of Twinsun. Aliens are visiting, and they’d like to invite Twinsun’s wizards to come visit their home planet.

Twinsen isn’t a wizard, really, but he has a nose for trouble and this looks like something that needs to be investigated, so once again it’s up to you as Twinsen to don your Ancestral Tunic and embark on a quest that will take you to new vistas and new dangers. As a newly-graduated wizard, you will be called upon to visit and save more than just one world. This time you’ll visit 3 different planets, each with its own graphical style and a multitude of locations!

Of course, like any sequel, there are improvements in store besides the bigger and better story and locations. Little Big Adventure 2 has a fully 3D outside world, and the familiar and proven 3D engine for inside rendering as well. The camera got an update too, and now you can rotate the perspective. Dialog is voiced by all of the characters, and with full EFIGS localization it’s helluva treat!

If you’ve missed on either of the Little Big Adventure games, treat yourself to this wacky French classic series and buy them for $5.99 each!

Digital Distributor Focus: GOG.com
QUOTE
Not every digital distributor is trying to offer a complete catalog of every new game. In fact, one digital distributor, GOG.com, has chosen to focus on what they call Good Old Games... hence the name. They've been busy getting rights to old PC games and making them compatible with newer versions of Windows, and now offer hundreds of old games at quite reasonable prices (usually ranging from $5.99 to $9.99). IndustryGamers asked Managing Director Guillaume Rambourg about their digital distribution strategy.

New release: ArmA: Gold Edition

QUOTE
Today we’re adding another classic FPS to our ever-growing catalog, ArmA: Gold Edition, for the paltry price point of $9.99. This version of the game includes the original ArmA: Armed Assault and its expansion Queen’s Gambit.

Bohemia Interactive worked hard on delivering a sequel to their award winning franchise, taking years to release ArmA: Gold Edition. This military simulator takes place on a fictional Atlantic island of Sahrani, divided into two countries: the communist dictatorship in the north and the democratic kingdom in the south. When US forces stationed there leave the southern country for training, the northern neighbour attacks. You are one of the US soldiers that hasn’t left the island yet, so you join the local militias and fight the aggressive regime!

The terrain featured in the campaign measures up to 400 square kilometers, and is beautifully rendered by the Real Virtuality 2 engine. All of the weapons and vehicle models are made in great detail, but apart from looking real they behave like the real ones too. Sighting, weapon ballistics, damage, recoil, and reloading are some of the things that were designed to be as real as they can get. The main campaign offers over 20 missions with non-linear scenarios and on top of that the Queen’s Gambit adds two more campaigns, one connected with the main campaign, the other one features a group of mercenaries that are all about stealth and efficiency. If you manage to accomplish all three campaigns, and you still haven’t got enough of ArmA, you can create your own missions with the built-in editor. If you aren’t the mission building type yourself, you can still use the editor to load up and play one of the hundreds mods that are already made by the fans!

ArmA: Gold Edition comes in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Czech, Polish, and Russian languages. The game is DRM-Free as always and can be yours for only $9.99.

XIII: Lost Identity is an 'interactive story,' not a shooter

user posted image
QUOTE
We're gonna tear this one off like a Band-Aid, dear readers: The recently uncovered installment in the XIII franchise looks to be a far cry from the game which preceded it. Developer Anuman Interactive revealed a handful of screens from XIII: Lost Identity, which appears to be a puzzle-adventure game set in the world of the game, and expands on the lore established by the franchise's comic book off-shoots.

You can see a few screens on the developer's Facebook page, if you're not too crushed by the lack of gunplay. (Not to mention the lack of Duchovny.)

New release: Speed Busters: American Highways

QUOTE
Some time has passed since our last racing game release, so amateur drifters and experienced race drivers rejoice! Today we’re bringing you a good old fashioned arcade racer, Speed Busters: American Highways for just $5.99!

The setting of today’s release is a little bit bizarre: a local law enforcement officer has won the lottery and he kind of went bonkers. Instead of leaving his job and spending the rest of his life on a pension somewhere in the Caribbean, he decided to host a series of races where he sits by the speed traps and instead of enforcing the law on the racers, he is rewarding the fastest of them with money!

The game has several different modes you can play through. Choose the championship mode to start with a set amount of money, choose a car to buy and upgrade it (nitrous, a giant wing, etc.). Then compete in a set of circuit races in order to gather more money to repair or upgrade your car. The cash reward is multiplied by how fast you went past the policemen in the race. The arcade mode lets you choose between cars, tracks, weather conditions (rain, fog or clear), and time of day (day or dusk). After that you jump into a race to beat the clock and drive through checkpoints to continue racing like in your favorite arcade racer of yore. Shortcuts are not rare, hidden tracks will reward those who enjoy the game to the max, and the trigger happy ram’n’slam game play will let you chill out after a day full of work. The car design unifies a classical old-school feel of muscle cars with a futuristic line of the crazy arcade setting Speed Busters: American Highways is known for. Apart from tuning the insides of your mechanical beast, you can also use a variety of paint and skin options to customize your ride to your grease-monkey heart’s content.

Grab the DRM-Free version of Speed Busters: American Highways for only $5.99 now, and get paid for speeding like a madman!

Mechwarrior reboot will be PC exclusive

user posted image

QUOTE
After being teased over two years ago, the return of Mechwarrior is apparently around the corner.

PC Gamer reports that it has the details on the reboot, which will be a PC exclusive title. It will allegedly update with more information in a few hours, with "one very big surprise," so we'll be sure to let you know then.

The franchise has been making its return to the game space, stomping along slowly like an Atlas mech, for several years, with Jordan Weisman's Smith & Tinker obtaining the rights back in 2007. This was followed by a tease of the reboot in 2009, with a trademark dispute shortly thereafter. Since then, things have been very quiet... until now.

Update: PC Gamer notes the game will be freemium and launch in the second half of 2012.

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) now on GOG

user posted image
QUOTE
Before Quantic Dream drenched us in Heavy Rain, it gave us the ambitious, story-driven Fahrenheit, now available on GOG.com for $6. Fahrenheit, known as Indigo Prophecy in North America, experimented with many of the techniques (and story elements) that ended up being refined in Quantic Dream's interactive novella on the PS3.

Fahrenheit on GOG is the "uncut and uncensored version" of the game, not originally released in the States, which includes some interactive sex scenes. The real reason to play this game, however, is to watch an interesting, compelling premise go off the rails like a child star after an 18th birthday. A must-experience moment (of disappointment) for any future game writers.

GOG: Your customers hate DRM
user posted image

QUOTE
Good Old Games (GOG) is a popular digital distributor which not only sells new games but old, classic games that are optimized for new computers. The sit'es managing director Guillaume Rambourg, speaking at the London Games Conference, has pronounced that customers hate DRM and it is hurting game sales.

The Witcher 2, for instance, sold 200,000 copies on Steam, but managed to sell 40,000 on GOG, an incredible amount for the size of the site, especially when taking in the fact that it outsold all other non-Steam digital distributors combined, like Direct2Drive, GamersGate and Impulse.

Rambough stated in his address, "Your customers hate DRM. DRM is making companies feel safe while they handle some business, they are trying to protect their product and protect their sales, but the reality is very different.

"The reality is DRM does not protect your content. Every game is pirated within a few hours of release or more often before it's released. DRM is not protecting your product or your sales, it's going to harm your sales in the long run."

"By putting DRM in your games you are working against your consumers, you are harming those you should cherish. It's only hurting your loyal consumers which is counter-productive."

He then told the attendees that pirates know digital distribution better than most companies, and that they should treat pirates not as the "enemy" but as the "competition." He went on to say, "You have to be as close to piracy as possible for ease of use for the consumers. Make it simple for them and you can turn the consumers to loyal fans. Protect your brands not your sales.

"DRM free works and we know it. You have to create some emotional attachment. We bundle games with wallpapers, soundtracks, manuals, and it doesn't take a lot of your time and it makes consumers happy.

"Many companies are fans of regional pricing. On GoG we say that any consumer, regardless of his location, should have access to the product at the same price," he added. "If you don't create an emotional attachment with your consumers they are free to buy a game one day and then the next day go to the competition."

Analysis: The main issue that Ramboug may be missing is that people love free even more. By his words, publishers should go free-to-play and microtransaction their games heavily. He is also speaking from the perspective as a seller, and not a creator. Let us know what you think.
