QUOTE(Thumpy Ick @ Aug 28 2009, 06:38 AM)
that champions league final year was a blur to me... maybe because i was busy preparing for an important exam? i cant remember why but i dont even know all the teams we beat to get there! all i remember is henry's blitz from the center of the pitch to score against Real Madrid, and fabregas's long range shot to defeat AC Milan. it's a pity we didnt win the cup that year, that would've been such a legendary campaign. i do remember fades about pak leman saving a penalty by riquelme too... wow what an epic story. is there like any highlights from that whole campaign? lol i'm always asking for highlights >_<

btw on our group, it looks really simple. i dont know much of the other 3, but olympiakos is probably the candidate to give us the most trouble. anyway, i dont think any of the three matches Celtic. tho we did get past celtic with a lot of luck in tact
*
lol....bro u got it wrong bout the milan match....that was 2 years ago...we won 2-0 goals by cesc n adebayor.....then we frickin' lost to liverpool 4 a dubious penalty....till this day it hurts seeing that match especially b4 that stupid penalty theo walcott juz dribbled 5 liverpool players n pass 4 adebayor to score...woooo..that was special!!during the run 4 the champs league final in 2006 we did beat juventus (with patrick vieira in it) 2-0...the best goal was when robert pires tackled vieira 4 the ball n pass it to cesc who beat buffon.....that goal was wonderful too!!!but that was in the past....i truly believe this year is arsenal's year....there's something in the eyes of the players who r raring to go in every match n give it their all no matter if the player is a first teamer or a sub.....regarding the transfer window i hope AW do bring in a player with defensive qualities seeing that we do not have too much cover on that aspect.....n guys the gathering to watch the Man u match in Asia Cafe...is it still on??i want to join..... thumbup.gif

Very kind draw for Arsenal. I wonder if AW is going to play the youngsters upon securing the group top spot.

QUOTE(sigheart @ Aug 27 2009, 11:15 PM)
In Bak's defence he was merely following his teammates in pushing up for an offside trap. You don't track runners in an offside trap which would defeat the whole purpose of an offside trap if you do.

I don't know but to me if an offside trap fails it only means poor communication between defenders and in this case Gallas fell asleep. Everyone was clearly in line except for Gallas who was well out of position. And when I mean in line even the midfielders and strikers were all in their assigned positions. When the ball was played to Donati you can clearly see in the slow mo part of the video the shape of our team with the exception of Gallas sticking out like a sore thumb well out of position from the defensive line.

Yes, a wondershot but if Gallas was in position in the first place there might not even have been a wondershot.
*
Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming Bak for the goal either. It was an example of how to nitpick mistakes by overanalysing and that's easier to do by replaying video clips over and over again - which is a luxury that our players on the pitch don't have. A final minute goal from a good shot hurts no more than the ego, and it doesn't take away the fact that all our defenders performed admirably over the two legs.

Anyway, Nike's got a new video for Theo...

Make the difference... Come on Theo, first of all you gotta be fit !!

Our CL group looks good on paper, but as always, teams who manage to get into CL won't be pushovers. Yet it's better to have an easy group rather than face off with bigshots like RM in the group stages.

another "boring" group for Le Gunners..hahaha. Of coz im fancy we meet more elite opponent like
Inter, Real, Juve, Lyon. But its oso good to get "easy opponent on paper" first. But anything can happen in football.
AZ alkmaar is quite strong team oso. Their similarity wit us not juz by their kit (red + white sleeves) tongue.gif
but they're oso attacking minded team juz like us

it is boring. but is good to us. Though they were weak compare to us.but we should not underestimate them.We must try to gain top spot by resting the key players.

With the respect to the opponents..this is the easiesy draw that a team afford.

Passing group stage as Winner shouldnt b a huge problem. Hope we can maintain the form in euro and epl.

it's an easy draw yes, but i hope the players won't make the mistake of thinking that the matches will be easy. they will still need to prove that arsenal deserve to be in the knockout stages of the CL.

let's hope the favourable draw will be used to our advantage, especially when we're planning a simultaneous assault on the EPL and also the FA Cup... =)

I do not believe this is "another" boring group for the Gunners. We are used to the more challenging groups all these while.

The good news about the less challenging UCL group for us is that we can reserve some players to concentrate on the BPL/EPL challenge.

During these UCL group period, I just hope we can get maximum points in BPL/EPL because after all, BPL/EPL should be our highest priority.

Looks like an easy draw for us, but my main concern is more on the travelling, had we drawn teams from the eastern europe or those from the extreme cold weathered Russian team. Travelling to such extreme weathered countries to play, tho on the papers is easy, isn't as easy as we would like to think it is because of the long travelling time, the cold weather and you tend to not play to your ability with that kinda weather. And you come back from it, have to face a tough English team and you kinda suffer abit whether home or away.

So i'm kinda glad we got a decent draw with teams from Holland, Belgium and Greece, which are not too harsh in environment. But there's always danger is underestimating your opponent. So we still got to be careful in that sense. No team is favourites in UCL.

Why adopt such a negative mindset when we have been locking horns with Europe's biggest clubs for the past decade and emerged with records on numerous occasions i.e. consecutive clean sheets and dazzling victories against teams like Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan?

We are among the contenders, just that we have to take things one step at a time.

guys...

all our opponents are champions for their respective leagues last season. So, they are no pushover. Standard Liege gave liverpool a run for their money last season. AZ can be the dark horse and they play much like us using the 4-3-3. Olympiakos always tricky fixture and their defense is top class. Last season, if not mistaken, they had the most clean sheet in Greek league. So, Do not be complacent and think we're thru to knock out stages already. Win 4 games first, then we'll talk.

brilliant point raised. and to a certain extent, i feel that united's gruelling group which includes a trip to russia and also to turkey will be good for arsenal. imagine if we got that group and bergkamp was still playing... hahah... sigh, the good old memories of the non-flying dutchman... =)

personally, i would tend to agree with giotto's POV. after all, all the teams in the CL are there by merit, because they are good. so to say that arsenal are favourites are somewhat premature. i'm guessing he's not being negative. he's just being cautious and realistic at the same time.

besides, despite being able to lock horns with europe's elite clubs, we still do not have the one thing that matters to say that "we've done it and won". we don't have the CL trophy.

for me, i will take each game at a time, all the while being quietly confident that this season represents a fantastic opportunity for arsenal. =)
