CHINA'S Sozo Global Ltd, an export driven one-stop gourmet convenient food specialist, is headed for an initial public offering (IPO) on the main market of Bursa Malaysia.

It has signed a deal with AmInvestment Bank Bhd and JF Apex Securities Bhd to underwrite the entire IPO portion for the Malaysian public.

Sozo's IPO involves 55.38 million new shares, of which 24.49 million shares are for the Malaysian public while 30.89 million shares would be placed out to selected investors.

There is also an offer for sale of 19.12 million shares that will be privately placed out to selected investors.

"The aspiration of Sozo's listing on Malaysia's stock exchange goes beyond raising capital. Agro Treasures is our strategic investor with an approximate 10.43 per cent stake in Sozo post-listing. Malaysia has also been earmarked as the location of our halal food processing facility to target the huge global halal food market," Sozo chief executive officer and co-founder Shen Hengbao said in a statement yesterday.

Agro Treasures is an outsourced fund initiated by Khazanah Nasional Bhd and managed by Vida Incorporated Sdn Bhd for investment in agricultural and food sector.

Sozo, co-founded by Shen and executive director Meng Xiangzhen in 2005, is a one-stop gourmet convenient food specialist with product development, manufacturing and marketing capabilities.

The group has four product ranges, namely Ready-To-Serve (RTS) food, frozen vegetables, canned food such as fruits and seafood, and others such as vacuum fried food and asparagus tea.

Sozo's over 1,000 product varieties made at its facilities in Ju County, Rizhao City, Shandong province are certified and registered for export to Korea, the US and predominantly Japan.

The IPO will lay the foundation for its next growth phase, in particular the RTS food division.

The group's net profit in 2008 surged more than six times to RMB94.9 million (RM44.60 million) from 2006 on a proforma basis while revenue also more than tripled to RMB415.1 million (RM195.1 million) in the same period.

Sozo's results in the first half of 2009 continued to show growth, with revenue and net profit of RMB284.6 million (RM133.76 million) and RMB72.3 million (RM33.98 million) respectively.

so I will pass

I think I will pass too, not because it's non-halal, but almost half reserved for public? Normally institutions will take more than that... And this counter have no allocation for MITI approved bumi investor, recently those with allocation for that category normally open with premium; those without...

if that's the case, i think i'll pass...
