QUOTE(nujikabane @ Aug 19 2009, 01:23 AM)
In the case of Gpacket, the rights issue will be available to those who have the shares on the 2nd September. How will the price be adjusted?
Is it the same as in the case of ex-daete for dividends ?

In the last post you did write about rights issue, you said that it depends on the intention of the company to declare rights issue.
Gpacket needs more capital for expansion purposes, not unlike Mulpha who said it is being used to repay debt.

Can we assume that the investor view it in a positive way, thus the share price rises because they have faith
in the management and in the likely possibility for the company to expand ?
*
It will be adjusted according to right issue price, (lower price), it will average out the right issue price with the ratio of it at compared to the closing price before ex. (just like what ex-dividend).

Gpacket has plenty of hope from investors that P1 business will drive the company revenue a lot but profitable wise still under a lot of scrutiny as they need to get in enough subscribers to breakeven their book, if not, those high capital expenditure will make the company in red.

But to say it rises because of RI afterwards is not the actual picutre. The actual picture is that once overall market rise, almost every stock will rise one. Somemore it has freebie of warrant to 'sweeten' the deal to lure investors take up the RI.
Somemore P1 is said to be listed which could make the company some money out of it.

But with more share and potential dilution of warrant, its profit need to improve significant otherwise EPS will be diluted after the RI.

But if P1 will be listed, that situation become more complex, as holding of P1 will be lower so contribution of the P1 business become lesser to Gpacket.

Summary of the research paper for golden agri:

Golden Agri Resources (GAR) released its 2Q09 results on Friday;
revenue was down 30.7% YoY but rebounded 37.2% QoQ to US$565.6m; net profit
tumbled 64.7% YoY but was up nearly 543.0% QoQ to US$55.1m. Operationally,
it appears that the worst of the previous tree stress (due to the drought
in 2006) has passed; management is hopeful of seeing better production
numbers in 2H09. And while there may be a possible El Nino effect this
year, management believes that the impact will probably be felt some 12
months later. We have also raised our CPO assumptions for this year from
US$600/ton to US$620/ton, and this in turn bumps up our FY09 revenue
forecast by 6.8%; but only raised our net profit estimate by 4.2% as GAR
will still need to work through the excess fertilizer that it had bought at
a much higher price late last year. Using a higher 12x blended FY09/FY10
EPS valuation (vs. 10x previously), our fair value will rise from S$0.35 to
S$0.45. Given the limited upside, we maintain our HOLD rating.

No comment on it as I don't look at plantation stock in S'pore...
Anyway, in general S'pore plantation stocks are lower valuation than M'sia one.
You may need to do some research on it first

Rise too fast previously (to 16.00), so now drop fast as well, profit taking.

The seller is quite eager to sell one, the situation is similar to previous drop to 13.00 one.

You can see the same pattern of selling, each day, they have mandate to sell x number of lots one, can't find buyer, sell to lower price buyer.

It could be this week, it could be next week, or it could even be in September.

Sharon Lorimer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But no matter when it happens, traders remain convinced the stock market is set up for a pullback that could take it another 10 percent or so lower before it can start to really move higher.

Stocks bounced back Tuesday after Monday's global selloff. The Dow was up 82 at 9217, and the S&P 500 was up 9 points, or 1 percent at 989. Financials, materials and technology led the gains.

The dollar weakened, and many commodities were higher, including oil and gold. Oil made a more-than-5-percent move, jumping above $70 in the late electronic session on API's report of tighter-than-expected inventories. Treasurys saw selling along the curve in light volume trading.

Investors Wednesday will focus on Hewlett Packard's better-than-expected earnings report and raised forecast, released Tuesday after the bell. The shares weakened, though, as Hewlett said its sequential revenue would be up about 8 percent in the fourth quarter, less than analysts' expected.

Good good rclxms.gif At least will keep you focused on other counters than Msports..

By the way, I think Boustead will have quarterly report this week. Normally, it will be this week. If the report is good, do you think the share price will up further? Hmm...

Its now 3.62, i may jump in half of my allocation first and see later. hmm.gif

Then play mind game with her. Now I offer 14.30, 30 min later withdraw the offer, out 14.20.

Make the seller bek tahan, especially at current market condition which smell some panic around.

-OR need to discount a bit because there is time lag for OR to become the mothershare, you need to send in money, only about 2 week to complete it.

What if market laosai within the 2 week, you cannot run and stuck in it.

So OR need to be much lower. 0.73 (if mothershare is 3.61) is considered at higher range already, a merely 8 cents discount is not attractive.

But for those initially wish to have it for long term, the cheaper alternative is always the better choice.

I quite agree with Mopster...Hahaha biggrin.gif

We have powerful people holding lots of interests here....So, i think dropping 5-7% would be prevented by our own Agensi Pam Perlindungan. tongue.gif

Aiyah....this from Bloomberg....What a lousy Iron & Steel company in China....Cause worldwide & regional sell off. But if give us opportunity to BUY.
Hahah biggrin.gif

Quote from Bloomberg:

European and U.S. stock-index futures fell and Asian shares retreated as China’s Maanshan Iron & Steel Co. posted a second straight half-year loss and copper dropped. The Shanghai Composite Index entered a bear market.

Maanshan fell 7.7 percent after announcing a 795.4 million yuan ($116 million) net loss for the first half. BHP Billiton Ltd. slid 1.5 percent in Australia as lead, tin and nickel slipped on the London Metal Exchange. Telekom Austria AG will probably move as profit at the country’s biggest phone company trailed analysts’ estimates for the second quarter.

Futures on the Euro Stoxx 50 Index slid 0.7 percent at 7:52 a.m. in London. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 Index is set to open 24 points lower, according to inter-dealer broker BGC Partners. Standard & Poor’s 500 Index futures expiring in September slipped 1 percent, while the MSCI Asia Pacific Index decreased 0.7 percent.

China’s Shanghai Composite Index fell as much as 5.1 percent, a 20.5 percent retreat from this year’s high on Aug. 4. Maanshan dropped 7.7 percent to 4.80 yuan. A slump of at least 20 percent on an index is commonly defined as a bear market.

Worst Drop

U.S. and European stocks rose yesterday, helping global equities rebound from the worst drop since April, following better-than-estimated earnings at Home Depot Inc. and Target Corp. and an increase in German investor confidence.

BHP slid 1.5 percent to A$36.71. Copper retreated 2.3 percent on the LME.

Telekom Austria may move. Net income dropped to 82.3 million euros ($116.5 million), missing the 84.1 million euros estimated by analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

Why not, I can sell Tanjong at 14.30 as well still getting decent profit out of it which just bought last month or so one, not to mentioned 20+ cents dividend already in the bag already.

So there are still lot of people can sell if they wish to or scare one.

Yes, there is little chance for KLCI to drop this kind of level, as local taikor will come to cushion the drop. Only fierce selling by foreign investors (like 308 last year), by then they only cannot cushion it.

I very agree. Those who willing to sell of at 14.xx could have sold at 15.xx then. It actually reached 16.00, and I asked around whether I should dump it. I decided not to and it is back to 14.xx. I am still holding on to it, and waiting to wallop some more below 14.

That's what I'm waiting for as well.
As soon as I think it's bottomed out (for this period) I will do a smash and grab raid on it....
The fundamentals of the stock are exactly the same at 13.xx as they were at 16.00 and they will be when it gets to >18.00.

Unless there's some 'news' I'm missing.

The psychology doesn't stack up to me when those selling at 14.30 know full well they could have sold at 15.xx (ex-divvy) only a matter of days ago hmm.gif

QUOTE(VyvernS @ Aug 19 2009, 03:43 PM)
I very agree. Those who willing to sell of at 14.xx could have sold at 15.xx then. It actually reached 16.00, and I asked around whether I should dump it. I decided not to and it is back to 14.xx. I am still holding on to it, and waiting to wallop some more below 14.

Perhaps others have different trading methods that i don't "ming bai".  rolleyes.gif

A few days or few week trend doesn't matter one if one intends to hold it for long term and fundamental still intact.

I am happy to see each year getting 90 cents dividend and don't bother about the current share price too much.

But if fundamental changing like EPS drop due to operation business deteoriation, div drop, then I can sell it at 14.00 or 13.00 as well disregard it has reached 16.00 or 18.00 previously or not.

What has happened few days ago like reached 16.00 or not, has passed and no point to see back like haiseh, 16.00 doesn't sell, so I should not sell at 14.30. It doesn't work this way.

Sometimes if things or situation have changed (especially fundamental side), then must protect the profit.

Thanks Cherroy for the pointers.

Agreed, that fundmentals are important guiding factor. I have read 3 articles on Tanjong, one from CIMB, one from Personal Money and another I cannot remember (possibly Smart Investor or Malaysian Business), all recent articles. All have good calls on Tanjong being a good long term investment company.

But sometimes you have to be in the shoe of fund managers.

If UT holders redeem their unit, fund managers need to find some stock to sell to raise cash to pay, right?

So they need to choose one of their portfolio, eg. ok, seeing Tanjong make decent, so sell it.

Fund managers invest strategy is different than individual, they need to response to environment and needs of the fund. If they need cash and need to pull out, they will sell disregard how good potential of the stock is.

Also, some fund managers may view newly jackpot introduced by Magnum could competet the Big Sweep revenue or budget is coming out, some sin tax applied?
or re-negotiate of IPP contract? etc etc.

But still selling activities is still orderly, just the sellers are eager to dispose x number of share which until they have finished, only then see price stablising.

The reason why good call, because in KLSE, you can't find many stocks able to give 90 cents dividend year in year out in big cap name.

Dividend yield is 6% which is >2x current FD rate. While EPS at 40+ cents Q, transalate annuliased PER below 10, while NTA at 9.80, share price vs book value less than 1.5x which one can't find many in KLSE.

It is a simple call actually by seeing those figure.

Don't mean recommend it, as fundamental issue can change one, especially in current economy environment.

China Stock Index Plunges, Briefly Enters Bear Market (Update1)
By Bloomberg News
Aug. 19 (Bloomberg) -- China’s stocks fell, briefly driving the benchmark index into a so-called bear market, on concern tighter lending will damp economic growth.

The Shanghai Composite Index lost 4.3 percent to 2,785.58, as China Shenhua Energy Co., the nation’s largest coal producer, sank 6.8 percent, the most since Feb. 18, and Citic Securities Co., the biggest brokerage, sank 7.8 percent.

The gauge has slumped 19.8 percent since this year’s high on Aug. 4, after more than doubling from November’s low as China rolled out a 4 trillion yuan ($585 billion) stimulus package. A plunge in new bank loans in July, disappointing earnings and concern the government will seek to damp property market speculation has sapped confidence.

“It’s irrational selling that has shattered market confidence,†said Larry Wan, Shanghai-based deputy chief investment officer at KBC-Goldstate Fund Management Co., which oversees about $583 million in assets. “Some mutual funds have been reducing their stock holdings as they are pessimistic about the economic outlook.â€

China Everbright Securities Co., which had the smallest first-day gain of any new stock in Shanghai this year, slumped by the 10 percent daily limit today. About 10 stocks fell for each that rose on the Shanghai index.

“The Chinese market is very trend-oriented because there are many individual investors,†said Philippe Zhang, chief investment officer at AXA SPDB Investment Managers in Shanghai, which oversees about $220 million. “It can rally very quickly and go down strongly as well.â€

New Loans

The Shanghai index, the third-best performing market in the world in the first seven months, remains 59 percent below its record level on Oct. 16, 2007. Stocks have slumped this month as new loans in July declined to less than a quarter of June’s level, the regulator allowed initial share sales after a nine- month moratorium and companies including Yunnan Copper Industry Co. reported losses. The gauge remains 53 percent higher this year.

“The current correction is reflecting the tightening in lending,†said Andy Xie, a former Asian chief economist at Morgan Stanley, who correctly predicted in April 2007 that China’s equities would tumble. “We’ve seen the peak of this market cycle, though there’s likely to be a bounce as the government seeks to stabilize the market.â€

The market may extend its decline by another 10 percent, Xie said Aug. 17. Even with the recent decline, the Shanghai index is trading at 30.4 times reported earnings, against 17.5 times for shares on the MSCI Emerging Markets Index.

An estimated 1.16 trillion yuan of loans were invested in stocks in the first five months, China Business News reported on June 29, citing Wei Jianing, a deputy director at the Development and Research Center under the State Council, China’s Cabinet.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, which measures Hong Kong-listed shares of Chinese companies, dropped 2 percent today to 11,210.62.

MA actually sometimes very good gauge as well, it can't run away too much its MA especially for long period one, like 50 days or 100 days.

Run away too much either on both side, correction need to come in, which often we see share price is moving in tight range of its MA.

MA50 provide immediate support at around 14.30.

on early June, Tanjong fall approx RM1++, main reason is because funds are disposing it. the disposal activity took about 1-2 weeks.

now we are experiencing something similar. we have been coming down from RM16 to RM14.xx, so we have a rough idea when the disposal would cease and when to accumulate.

No ideal entry price yet, still depends on the market. If the market is really having correction till October, then by September should start accumulating. In the meantime, just hope all my stocks holding well

Ya.....I am holding on to some stocks i hope can weather through if it is really correction.

For now, I have decided to sit out until get an idea where this market is heading. I bought the Bstead expecting some support level at 3.60 since it drop from 4.00 all the way here. Seems not right... tongue.gif

Anyway, will continue monitoring as still have bullets, albeit limited stock. biggrin.gif

the current downtrend is it because the fund managers are selling down, since KLK, Tanjong is significantly down. What is the reason?

This is a bad news for Espee taken from one of the people posting in channelnewsasia market talk forum...

0247 GMT [Dow Jones] CapitaLand (C31.SG) outperforms market tad as investors hope deployment of S$1 billion of capital to China, Vietnam and Ascott serviced residence businesses may lead to accretive deals. Shares +0.3% at S$3.64 vs STI off 0.3%, though thin traded volume suggests near-term upside likely capped at 10-day moving average of S$3.68. "The announcement provides a roadmap for capital redeployment following the rights issue earlier this year," says Deutsche Bank. Adds, "while we are disappointed that no acquisitions have been announced to date, this could be a prelude to a more aggressive stance on acquisitions at the 3 businesses." But says investments will likely be less earnings accretive than previously hoped as distressed opportunities are now more limited due to stabilization of financial markets. Maintains Sell rating with unchanged S$3.23 target price. (KIG)

Good evening folks!

Took a great nap.. now ready for some action tonight..

Wow! Nicely set.. ready for another bear raid! rclxms.gif

Well well well.. just as expected.. All eyes on RED CHINA! They just love RED don't they?
From Asia to Euro to NorthAmerica. How about that? -20% drop for China so far, no doubt now they're
in BEAR market. If you all have been looking at the SSE, there are more drops to come..
probably will like to go back to 200MA line at 2400.

@ NYSE, the gains that the bulls took back yesterday will be wiped out today.
Gen Bear and this army will continue this carnage. tongue.gif

Furthermore, dark clouds and hurricanes are brewing at the same time at the Atlantic ocean
and heading to the Gulf. What a great time!

Realistically speaking, no one would like BEAR season, not just stocks players like us. Imagine, the world is in deep recession, eventually you might be out of job as well. But then again, BEAR season is near as expected by many of the people, so it is time for us to accumulate more stocks.

It is funny you said that. If this is "expected by many", yet some already ask "Err.. how long will this correction last?"
Look folks, IMO, we haven't even started yet (except for China). Don't ask for when it will end yet.

If you're long, just look for those opportunities to buy the dips!
If you're short (like me), let it ride down.. and reap the profits!

Yes, China now is the leading indicator. nod.gif

Well, I believe some do not see that the whole stocks is overbought. But most of us already anticipating for the drop.
I'm long - so I am looking for the opportunities to buy on dips. hahahaa

well, as DMC said, china is leading the situation now...

so this is good indication for us that the correction is coming rather than worrying when it will come...
at least this will keep us prepared during the next few weeks...

Yes.. at least you got that as the leading indicator and since China opens early. You got some edge there.
Since most of you can't short. Go long with the stocks that are badly beaten but watch for those tops.

Stagger your Buy, Don't jump all in. This is big mistake for those people catching falling knives.

If you’ve not yet gone short, don’t worry. Tomorrow’s (Thursday) performance gaming due to options expiration could very well offer you a good entry point.

You see, August’s options expire on Friday. Because of this, traders who are underwater on their positions will try to push the market higher in order to close out their positions for a gain. Historically the day before expiration (Thursday) sees the largest market jumps as traders pile in pushing the market higher.

In light of this, It would not at all be surprised if the S&P 500 rallies hard tomorrow. When and if it does, you should get a good entry point to establish some shorts. Once options expiration is over after Friday’s close, the fundamentals should take hold of the market again, pushing stocks lower.

The falls in the Shanghai market do not reflect the health of the broader Chinese economy.

Rocketing and slumping has always been a characteristic of the Shanghai market. It took only one year for the index to rise from 1,664 to 6,124 points and vice versa.

The Shanghai exchange is all but closed to foreign investors, while Chinese investors have few other options to place their money, since they cannot buy overseas shares.

Consequently, this exchange is extremely volatile,

China is Going to Blow Up

Authority in Beijing were walking in Alan Greenspan's footsteps in trying to inflate their country back to prosperity. Just as Greenspan held interest rates at historically low levels for far too long a time, inflating the housing bubble, China has done much the same.

Chinese bank lenders have been saddled with quotas and "must lend" mandates little different than the free-for-all "we'll lend to anyone" mentality that fueled the housing bubble. China's version of the NINJA loan (no income, no job, no assets) is to throw sacks full of money at the collapsing manufacturer or exporter in the hopes of sustaining the unsustainable. And just as Greenspan's easy money spigot fueled an orgy of real estate speculation, Beijing's flood of cash has fueled an orgy of business speculation, with hundreds of billions in lent funds flowing into speculative commodity stockpiling and the Shanghai A shares market.

True. The Sharks (the govt run companies) are more deadly in China than in Malaysia.
They can manufacture news and financial statements as easily as they make toys in their factories.
China can legislate any company into non-existence even foreign MNC company. Everyone watching
RioTinto and see how they're going to play with the giant Panda on the recent issue.

Therefore, most of us we don't trade China directly..but just use other tools that have China play indirectly.

Disclosure: Your truly current play: FXI, TCK, HAO, CDII tongue.gif

Funny that you said that. Most Americans feel that since they're already in DEBT,
they have nothing else to lose but the DEBT itself. They just walk away.
Chinese is losing sleep over their invested and hard earned cash because it is decreasing in value. biggrin.gif

Well That's right.

In the case of mortgage defaults, Americans can just hand the keys back to the bank and walk away. Or simply declare personal bankruptcy. That's the last thing that China wants to see, I would have thought.

if all the "queasing" doesn't work (and there's a very high probability that it won't) the next thing could well be a debt moratorium of some kind - not only in the US but the UK and Euro Zone as well.

What price western currencies then?

China is like a totally goreng market. Retailers are chasing or dumping in herd one, a lot of them treat stock market as casino table only. sweat.gif

That's why we always see it bubble and burst from time to time. It has been 3 times, China market facing this kind of stock market bubble for the last 10 years or so.

Not sure about local market but Crude Oil got a short term boost today
with the larger draw of inventory number in US. This is only valid for this week.

Therefore good for re-position if you think they will trace world crude price.

It has been really interesting these past 2 weeks looking at Oil Price (Nymex).
Oil tops at 70-72.. then back to 64-65 and back again to 70-72. They volley back and forth.

This price channel allows traders (like yours truly) to trade oil in almost predictable manner.

@ NYSE, the gains that the bulls took back yesterday will be wiped out today.
Gen Bear and this army will continue this carnage.

Furthermore, dark clouds and hurricanes are brewing at the same time at the Atlantic ocean
and heading to the Gulf.

What a great time!

Sometimes when people over short.. they've to cover big time.
Yours truly have done this. It is part of the game. biggrin.gif

But, by hedging a bit on the bull side for long. This helps to stop the bleeding. tongue.gif

Now the market is going up. I'm letting my long side to ride up, and waiting for it to top, release some of my long position and I'll short again to ride on the pullback. tongue.gif

No matter, I am still bearish because of the nature of the over-extended run. biggrin.gif

Good luck!

You well know my views about the coming debacle - and I agree with you: things are definitely extremely worrying and this dead cat bounce/bull trap (or whatever history will show it to be) makes no sense....

Looks like we can never under-estimate the power of The Bilderberg Group though.... hmm.gif

For Genting Singapore Shareholders:

We initiate coverage on Genting Singapore (GENS) with a HOLD call and a DCFbased
fair price of S$ 0.95/share, which implies a target 2011 EV/EBITDA of
12.7x. While we believe Resorts World Singapore (RWS) could trounce consensus
forecasts in its maiden year as a casino operator in Singapore in 2010, a peakish
market outlook could prompt investors to cash in following GENS’ 92.2% ytd
price appreciation. We expect GENS to trade in the S$0.90-0.95 range, with the
top end having already factored in continuity of the Singapore casino license and
scarcity premium for comparable Asian gaming-consumer plays. As our target price
has limited upside potential, we recommend HOLD with an entry price of S$0.80.

@jason,
yeah both in O&G but they specialize in different aspect. maybe this will affect the prospect..
Alam does underwater services and ship
while
Dialog on petrochemical tank construction..

My observation on gloves:

The recent run up was mainly due to the hyped up on the increase in demand of gloves with the H1N1 outbreak. The price increase of the various glove counters in the last two month ranges from 15% to 100% with the most significant increase seen in Adventa ,Latexx and Supermax.

Assessing the current situation objectively, most of the rubber glove counters are already trading at PE of 15 and above.Forward PE varies, but some company's forward PE are expected to reduce gradually, this is due to expected increase earnings as a result of increase demands.Everyone is increasing their production capacities, will this eventually cause oversupply when H1N1 pandemic recedes?

The excitement on rubber gloves, just like those theme plays that happen in the past in Bursa, will eventually fade off.and I personally already see the fever subsiding now.

I believe that there is not much meat to gain if one were to buy glove counters at the current level, there is actually higher risk of getting stuck at high prices.

I hope my observation is wrong and everyone please do not be influenced.Just ignore what I said and continue with what you are doing.I wish you making lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ biggrin.gif

i typed & googled "bad month for stock market"

this is what i get: OCTOBER!

CODE
October is not a good month historically for stocks and the stock market.
It can be said that the stock market has crashed three times and each of those disasters happened in October

make sure you are aware of this, fellow investors. rolleyes.gif

I don't understand how a company can IPO at 0.85 and then drop 0.10 in the first day.

Does it mean that all those investors who applied and got the shares at 0.85 suddenly decided to throw the stock and lose 10 cents a share the day that trading started? hmm.gif

rumour said the shareholders gets a way much "cheaper cost" than the IPO price.

So they can afford to dump, and at the same time, they get fat pockets $$$$$$

exactly, how come the IPO successful applicant wanna throw lower that their price? Might as well simply buy any share then sell it @ lower price. No logic at all, unless some sifu can teach me.

I think it is coincidence only. Many actually reported or said the same thing last year when the market somewhat crashed. Anyway, as long as money can be made in share market.....who cares.... tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Well, back to today. Looks like Tanjong is moving away from my RM13.xx...sigh....Now...back to hunting and more research on next stock to consider.....any other good fundamental stock that is beaten down at the moment?

exactly, how come the IPO successful applicant wanna throw lower that their price? Might as well simply buy any share then sell it @ lower price. No logic at all, unless some sifu can teach me.
*
The people whom throw can be those 'failed goreng' people which has high hope for first day IPO goreng.

Try to make money in quick goreng, fail, then dispose lor. <--- which happen quite norm, and which is good discipline to obey in gorenging. Once wrong, cut.

When a company apply for listing, one of the condition that SC MAY impose is a moratorium on major shareholders not to sell their shares for a specific period. This condition is normally imposed on Mesdaq(now ACE) counters ,Overseas companies and some main board companies.

The easiest way to get around is to park the shares under friendly parties before the IPO.Now you know why there's lots of seller even below IPO price! tongue.gif
