erm..thanks alot....if we wan to snap something, like flower, we just adjust the aperture value for making the background blur?
*

to achieve what u say bg blur or bokeh, just use the long focal length (longer zoom) and set aperture to lowest possible..

This is bizarre. We think we know why the FZ35 has become a bit hit — we put it front-and-center on the homepage — but we’re still miffed about how it overtook a doppelganger Canon. For our money, the Panasonic is a better camera, but not by a wide margin, and Canon usually wins these battles simply because everybody knows and trusts the Canon brand when it comes to digital cameras.

to be inform, the both are the same but

fz35 - is allowed to record more then 30min video
fz38 - allowed video time is 29min 59 second

this is because in EU, a camera can record more than 30 min video, is being classify as video cam, and liable for tax

I've a question on taking pictures with FZ35. When shooting indoors in slightly darker room lighting (like in restaurants), normally do u all use flash? I always have problem with flash photography. I know in built flash has its limitations. But given the limitations, anyone can share their settings on taking nice indoor pictures with the in built flash? Direct flash using Aperture mode gives the harsh lighting of the flash. Slow sync is not the best way out due to the overly long exposure time oftenly. I tried using '2nd flash' on shutter priority mode & I manually adjust the shutter speed to 1/8. Less chance for harsh flash lighting but still tend to get blur pics if hand not steady or subject moves. Anybody has more tips on indoor flash photography for FZ35?

I think FZ35 allows you to control the flash output, although I've never checked. You may also try a cheap trick by placing a tissue paper over the flash to soften the harsh flash. I rarely use flash because it is unnatural and mainly I don't do a lot of indoor photography.

well just to summarized excerpt from review from CameraLabs:

SX20 Pros:
- slightly longer 20x zoom range
- slightly smaller but fully-articulated screen
- flash hotshoe for mounting external Speedlites
- electronic viewfinder with the same resolution but a bigger apparent size
- large thumb wheel of the Canon felt ergonomically superior
- convenience of picking up spare AA batteries

FZ35 Pros:
- FZ38 / FZ35 digitally corrects the coloured fringing seen towards the corners in many of the Canon’s images
- maximum aperture of the FZ38 / FZ35 when zoomed-into 486mm is a brighter f4.4, compared to f5.7 of the SX20 IS from 460-560mm
- FZ38 / FZ35’s stabilisation was approximately one stop more effective
- AF speed slightly faster
- FZ38 / FZ35 features RAW recording
- manual control over the exposure in the movie mode
- a longer maximum exposure of 60 seconds
- smaller and considerably lighter camera

imho, i think on image quality, FZ35 wins, SX20 wins only mostly on physical designs..

Sifus, im into consideration in buying this fz35. Yet i have some doubts in my mind.

Can this camera take pictures like slr example bokeh pictures? Where the front is clear bg is blurr? I saw previous post some suggesting to zoom in a little to the object and use the lowest aperture available. But just a noob question, will it focus on that object and make the bg blur just by zooming?

Anyone can clear out my doubts? If yes, probably will get it maybe today or tomorrow =) join the family rclxms.gif

Any camera with aperture control will be able to take the style of pictures you wanted (ie blurred background). And yes, it seems to more effective if you zoom a little while using the lowest aperture setting although I can't explain why.

While not the same.... I have a Canon S90 and FZ28. Essentially, I think the S90 (or in this case LX3) to be more versatile. The FZ is nice only for day time use. It's noisy for low light.

The big zoom is fun though.

blur a bit ... yes and under certain conditions (like big distance between subject and the background)... but it doesn't isolate the subject like a proper dslr.

FZ35 isn' t a DSLR to begin with. It's just a compact camera with relatively long optical zooms, thus it's called superzoom smile.gif
