I need some help here.
My son has crooked inner nose bone (just like me 25 years ago).

Sorry i did not know what is the medical term for this kind of problem.

The crooked nose inner bone blocked some of the airway passage, so he has difficulty to breathe at one side of the nose.

I did the same surgery 25 years ago in melaka.
Now we live in Subang Jaya, we went to UMSC for checking, but did not like the environment there.

We decided to get it done at Sunway Medical.
From this thread, I can see there are few ENT specialists in Sunway Medical.

Could anyone recommend a good ENT that will take good care of my kid?
My kid is 17 years old.

I just had a very good surgery experience with Dr. Koay Cheng Boon .

My case was i had sinus headaches time to time , then after recent haze in malaysia i had flue twice followed by serious Chronic Sinus .

To be honest I am kind of person who will avoid doctors , medicines and hospitals at max .

So it was really worst facial pressure and pain and i had to go to the hospital

I went to KPJ Damansara , nearby ( i had above average experience in past with KPJ)

after basic emergency procedure i was sent for CT Scan and later was informed i have Chronic sinusitis and there is a pollyp

Right after that doctor advised since its Chinese new year doctor is on leave but if you are not feeling well you can get admitted and He will make sure ENT doctor will come the same day .

Doctor came the same day , i was admitted for 4 days there , with antibiotic and nasal steroids started to feel better .

Dr Awal Hassan told me if I do surgery that would be the ultimate resolution since the polyp is there .

I dont know if there was communication gap or what , I was not really satisfied with his consultation , though he is a good doctor and have a huge line of patients all the time , but didnt fancy me .

I asked him for a discharge and promised if anything goes wrong i will be back for surgery . I wanted a second opinion .

i took 2 days rest at home the facial pressure was coming back , so i found out through this forum about Dr. Koay Cheng Boon  , I was willing to give a shot .

I scheduled an appointment and went to meet him  ,

The first thing after he looked at my CT SCan Report and general check-up he told me there is no polyp .

and even if there is you can not tell from CT Brain scan which was done at KPJ , He advised you have sinus problem and you should do CT Sinus Scan .

which made sense to me , so i did and i got Radiology report there is no polyp , but there is infection which needs attention

DR KCB very straight forward , experienced and confident advised , we normally go about following antibiotics process but you have already been on antibiotics i think you should go for surgery , He convinced me and i got it done

its been a week and my Nasal dressing is out as well , I have a relief now , I can feel i am recovering and i will be much better than before .

Recently had been diagnosed with low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary gland.

Went through 5 different ENT specialists. Following are my personal opinions which should not be served as any guidelines:

1st doctor: "Let me google for you which part should you perform the ct scan" (geez...)
2nd doctor: "Explained extensively and ended the conversation with a question - do you have medical card" (yeah right...)
3rd doctor: "From my expertise this doesn't look like cancer' (okay...)
4th doctor: "While checking the lumps, he was talking on the phone and mentioned to one of his friends that "geez, cancer is very hard to cure I prefer not to get on those cases" (smart doctor..eh?)
5th doctor: Soft spoken, very professional with 3 nurses at the front desk and another nurse inside the room. He showed me all the cases he had handled before and explained to me case by case what happened thereafter. He is always sitting up straight unlike 4th/2nd/1st doctors.
5th doctor: Dr Koay Cheng Eng from Sunway Medical Centre.

All doctors are from Central Malaysia.

This is the 3rd week post-surgery and the wound recovered very well.

thank you so much for this thread. I was having severe vertigo since last 7 years and have seen numerous doctors and 3 ENTs! I was diagnosed with BPPV and Meinier's disease so I decided to get second opinion. Based on the reviews, I went and visited Dr Koay Cheng Eng at Sunway today (27/12/2016). The waiting was bearable (it was first come first serve basis), I waited 30 min (had nice breakfast downstairs).

I told him my history (was once warded for a week as I had severe vertigo when I was pregnant few years back) etc. He was very patient and thorough. Never once dismissed my questions (like whether diabetes triggered vertigo or whether special pillow  etc). He checked my ears and nose and noticed that (a) my nose is very swollen and it affect the pressure to the ears (b) my ears are not that shiny, it means that not much pressure was inside.

He also said that he thinks that my vertigo is due to the less pressure to the inner ear as both my nose and ear are problematic, he sprayed some liquid inside and treated my ear (my ear was bruised as I have itchy ears and always "korek" them). he said need to see him 3-4 times to cure the itchiness. then he gave me nasal spray to ensure that the swelling continues to subside.

I broach the subject of operation but he said to try the medication first

Overall it was very pleasant! can't wait to see him again next week! Not sure on the charges as I am using my company's insurance, but from the system, the amount is RM500 (not finalised yet)

I have visited Dr Koay Cheng Eng twice. As with any experienced ENT doctors, there are no issues with regards to diagnose and prescription but in terms of ethics, I think he is a bit lacking in terms of ethics.

I have a deviated septum whereby the passageway of one of the nostrils of the nose is smaller than the other one. He suggested a surgery to correct the problem as he mentioned it is already very severe. Since I had no difficulty in breathing at all I knew this surgery is not necessary. I asked a question on whether there are side-effects of this surgery and he suddenly didn't seem interested to entertain my questions anymore and was in a hurry to get me out of the clinic so that he could attend to other patients.

Also, I noticed Dr Koay Cheng Eng likes to take not only photos but videos of his patients as he showed me many photos and one video of his patients (a teenager or in his early twenties) talking about his experience with the surgery where Dr Koay had performed on him. It may be good publicity but personally i don't quite buy into all that.

I understand that all doctors would want to earn more money by performing surgeries but this should not take precedence over proper prescription or advice, in other words based on good ethics. I would suggest exploring other ENT doctors.

If i think back , long ago i had episodes of tinnitus and it'll just go away. Never recall any exposure to loud noises before.

Yes last time when i sit alone in the car, i can hear high pitch ring and i thought it was just white noise. sometimes alone in my room also i can hear it but i didnt pay any heed to it. Come nov 2016, i bought an active noise cancelling headphone, Bose QC35 and started using it around dec and on and off i can hear a high pitch ring but as usual i wasnt bothered at all. but after this year's cny, i had major sorethroat, flu and cough for 2 weeks and that's when the ringing got more obvious to me. everyday i'd be hearing it when im in the office at night when there's not many people (i work night shift) and this made myself away of that sound everywhere i go esp when i left for a biz trip in Manila for 2 weeks. everytime i enter the hotel room the ringing sound is there

could my tinnitus be exacerbated by qc35? did a google around about ANC headphones and tinnitus and i see quite a number of ppl are blaming it. because of the episode after CNY and Manila, i asked my friend who's a GP for ENT recommendation and she suggested Dr Sushil. he checked my ear, there's ear wax build up on my right ear, got it sucked out and now i'm on betaserc meds and i'm due for a hearing test next monday. so far i'm on my 3rd day of meds and i dont see any improvement.

any ideas?

You are true, sometimes he is very nice person, patient and caring.
Sometimes he is like what the other said, want to chase you out of the room, don't want to answer the questions.
He even told me he has too many patients today when I tried to ask more question, hint me I should stop asking and get out from the room....

ya Saturday, maybe i saw u? haha.. Yea, at 1 point he is being sarcastic but seems like a blood sucka to me, only know suggest surgeries. Then die die say is ur living environment problem, windows and door no open, got box in room, bla bla bla bla. My friend is going to Sunway today for 2nd opinion though.

He explained too much to me, but at the same time insist on doing surgery. He even say he can give 1 week MC to rest if i do surgery, hard sales surgery LOL! I asked him if surgery can fix sinus for good or will it re-incur, he say still depends on your living environment. Then whats the point of doing surgery
