@lhongwuh
look antonio siggy...
ask for the bios from him...that bios quite hard to find tho...

btw ur batch unlockable or not?
*
Fuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ini panjang punya cerita....sambil type ini pun, masih pakai dua teras n malas nak aktifkan dua teras 'tersembunyi'

Since, you've already bought the M4A78-E (which if you ask me, I wouldn't recommended to mid and lower overclocker experienced ppl), no regrets as the build quality, the 8+1 power phase, the solid blue stylish heatsink and bla bla bla....you pretty much look at the mobo as if it was a pretty girl... blush.gif

If you ask me earlier I would say get a mobo like the other bunch, such as Biostar or better yet, the DFI or Gigabyte...Dunn talk Foxconn ker ape ker coz you won't find it here...

Ok, enough with the heart drenching intro, now back to O/C business...

Any bios will do as long as the bios can recognize the X2 550, then it can unlock...

But, before you start having smiles on your face (right about before "But"), enabling the forth core is not permanent of the Asus....None of the Asus has permanent and I repeat, PERMANENT 4 cores enable....when u restart (not reset) the two extra cores will be hiding back behind the microcode....(microcode hmm.gif )

Ok, firstly you should remember that ACC and Unleash mode will be at CPU Config in the Bios (next page after the Overclock settings)....But for now we go to the page (2nd) in the Bios which to set the settings for the CPU....

I will draft down according to my memory (because if I have to write the whole settings here, requires me to restart the PC, enter Bios and take pics with my crappy 2MP camera phone) and you might add later questions regarding stuff that I may missed out...

The top one (ASUS AI Overclocking mode or something) should be the selection between Auto and Manual...Choose Manual!

Next multiplier set to 15.5x

DDR Settings choose according to your ram preference ( set to manual and select below, the speed 667 ke, 800 ke, 1066 ke)

*Note: When put 1066, Cas 4 wont be able to select!!

Ok next is the CPU/NB speed; Some say CPU to Ram communication, some say CPU to memory controller to ram, some say memory controller to Ram to CPU, either ways this will end up in the CPU-Z under the name NB Frequency....

Select 1800! Dun be greddy....want 4 cores oso want fast transfer between memory controller summore...

HT Link, select 1.8Ghz

CPU Vcore: set 1.5v if you got the bebolas, if not put 1.4v
CPU/NB : put 1.275 to 1.350v
VDDNB : (TBH, I also dunno what this does) put 2.7v
DDR Voltage : put your Ram manufacturer suggest...if your ram can go 2.2v put 2.2v if your rams is rated 1.8v example Kingston Value Ram, don;t put 2.5v!!! Ever!!! Why??? Because I don't want you to drive all the way to LYP or Kelana Jaya for an RMA....Like me no prob...no rams, just pilih between Crucial, (Corsair)Nanya, (KVR)Hynix or the slowest ram i got Aeneon...
NB voltage: 1.3v
HTT voltage : 1.2v
SB volt: 1.2v

The two thing below the SB voltage settings, disable them....both...period..why?? don't ask, just do it soldier!!!

Ok now you can save your settings and reboot PC....Double check everything, save and reboot the PC....

After POST enter Bios and check whether everything is correct...Now, lets proceed to the next part, which is the crucial part in terms of Unlocking the 'hidden' cores...

Next to the Asus AI page in the Bios is the where the CPU Config will be....Enter CPU Config and you will see options such as Microcode update, Cool & Quiet, ACPI Table and what not...Disable everythingggggg!!!!!!!!!! icon_idea.gif

The last selection in the menu would be the ACC brows.gif

Choose "Per Core", below set:

Core 0 : 0%
Core 1 : -4%
Core 2 : -4%
Core 3 : -4%

IMPORTANT!!!!!

Make sure Unleashed Mode is DISABLED!!! I repeat, DISABLED!!!!

Ok after you set the ACC options, go to profiles and save your OC setting in bank 1...give name X2X4, hit save and exit the page..... Go to save and exit bios and hope for the best!!!

See if you computer can POST or does it goes blank??

If post let me know here,

If cannot Post, press reset button a couple of times and ignore any messages upon reboot...just straight away let me know here....

All of the above won't activate your hidden cores yet....Come here and let me know does your PC reboots....

All brands same lor...comes from diff companies but same factory and same technology but diff quality of components....

Biostar provides 3-years of warranty for their mobos...if they are not good or not confident of their product, why on earth put 3 years warranty, baik letak 3 hari.... whistling.gif

iirc asus do support core unlockin bro, else why they include d unleashed mode in bios? infact, they are one of d 2 manufacturers that i know who include core unlockin features in their official bios, like what giga did w/ their hybrid acc. d rest (those that i know) still need beta bios to do d job. hmm.gif

manage to unlock cores is one thing, while ability to unlock cores + runnin 'em stably is another. nod.gif

some boards suffer in d latter term. wink.gif

maybe just that to counter gigitbite not agree with amd lock microcode..
some earlier bioses not have unleashed mode..
if they continue.. they are in big loss..

i'm sick with their budget line mobo's bios
no point having them if limits here n there.. sounds like cincai to me..

hopefully with 785 chip bios will have more room to tweak.. hopefully...

yes at the moment.. we are in the budget.. as usual..
but can't easily get good oc potential in asus budget line mobo eventhough their mobo looks very good..
unless we talking the premium class..

we wait n see.. hopefully they notice what they have done on previous release..

not to bash asus but will they ever learn not to ignore midrange users like us? if my memory serve me well they never really produce great oc board for AMD apart from their top of d line series in rog/deluxe which spells lotsa mooooooolaaaaah. whistling.gif

current trend is like this:

gud look + great performance + big price tag > asus/msi/giga premium boards

gud look + great performance + slightly lower than big price tag > dfi

lego like look + very gud performance + "even student can afford" price tag > need me to say? tongue.gif

simple bro, t-series vs t-power, diff quality in component used + diff color of pcb. it's like infinity series vs lanparty series for dfi. smile.gif

amd users = budget users = stingy in spendin, so biostar bein wise targettin d mass instead of d minor who are above average & willin to splash cash on dfi/asus/giga/msi premium boards. tongue.gif

but t-power about half the price compare to others in the same league..
they should manage to produce the same concept for the amd line up..
if extra RM20-30 (haha) still no prob i guess..
