Peeps,

Im planning to get an ER6N black. Is there any current owners out there to give comments on the bike and if it has any known problems? Im talking bout the new 2009 version with a new wieght to stabilize it at high speed. Anyone else know about this bike please give feedback too. Latest I checked the price was going for RM30,000 which is not so pricey for a 650cc bike and its competitive to Naza Blade 650 for around the same price.

i think the bike columns u need to refer to other website such as http://malaysianbikers.com.my/forum/ for better feedback..basically the standard price for this bike is RM32,000...i've tested this bike and it's one of the cheapest around for beginner naked bike.but the handling is so so only...i think the max speed you can do is around 180 but it'll shake like hell.....but beware of the second hand value and it may drop drastically...and you may want to upgrade it once you feel more comfortable...sometimes it's worth investing something better

cheers!!

im planning to get a new one. i heard from the bike shop owner that new 2009 model no longer has that shakiness. max speed only 180kmph??? wat i hear was it can go more than 200kmph average. Thatz the reason I wanted to get the bike in the first place. Cheap and fast for long distance. Can go cruise back to Ipoh with avg 200-210 speed. U sure about the top speed?

bro,

Anything above 140 km/h on a bike you have to be in semi crouched position. Above 200 km/h, your chin is literally on the fuel tank. How long can stay like that if travelling more than 200 km/h. And you really need to concentrate and focus on your ride. There's no margin for error at that speed.

The ER6N is superb commuter bike. Light and easy, with good low end torque. But if u still insist on high speed cruising, can opt for the Versys at RM48K.

bro..i'm not sure if u r experience driver or not...basically, to be cruising around 200+ is kinda dangerous and you need to lean over the tank...maybe ZX6...for any naked bike cruising at the speed is kinda dangerous...and trust me, for a bike capable of running 180, u may ride it comfortably at 150 to 160...

i've got mate riding a 2008 ER6 and maintenance is kinda affortable unless you wana add those accesories....overall, thumbs up for this bike thumbup.gif

btw Amirad...even Versys is using the same thing as ER6..i would suggest 40K++, try to get a 2007 Z750...try to source from Mudah.com

i heard this bike's top speed is around 200-210kph with some minor mods such as changing the sprocket or exhaust. i don't think this bike can cruise at top speed cause the reviews said the bike shakes a little when over 160kph. the bike body looks cool but i don't like the headlight, it's hideous! i'd dump the headlight for some other street fighter headlamp.

er6n should can go over 200km/h... im using '97 zx2, 160 - 180km/h is my normal speed when I'm traveling to my hometown at muar from kl, maintain wit that speed all the way from sg besi to tangkak exit....top speed 220km/h, tried it once and it really scary...!! But remember ZX2 is sport and er6n is naked bike, riding position is different...

We cant predict what will happen to this er6n 2nd hand value...as you can see ZZR250 now around 7k, but ZX2r can reach up 15k....

ER6N with 650R front fairing convertion would make a good touring bike....

Go for it bro...if not try to find second hand Z750....around 45-47k..

I own a ER6 2009 and I would say this bike is very comfy and easy to ride. It is quite powerful for 650cc bike and I have no issues with the bike. Maintenance is around Rm200 for me. But it depends on what you service everytime. It's a naked bike, can't be compared to sports/fairing.

i'm also very interested in this bike but before that i wanted to know the burden for this baby. so to the proud er6n owner, i would like to know how much:-

1. each time a normal service will cost?
2. the rear and front tyre (around)?
3. road tax?
4. insurance?
5. fuel consumption?

thanks
Happy Chinese New Year & Valentine

2 different beast with different purpose & rider... biggrin.gif

ER6N/F=Good beginner bike before your riding a much powerful two wheeler.

Good:Easy to handle, not to big or heavy, got lotsa ample steady torque due to the inline 2 engine, good for beginner to learn how to ride a big bike, great daily commuter.

Bad:In malaysia,it was quite...well overprice for sure for such beginner learner bike, brand new price can get you a good condition SRAD750+$$$$ you can had a fuel injected version(more power & light feeling) ,not everyone love the look of it(please bring the CB600 & other 600 muscle bike?I miss the power of XJ600) ,not designed for top speed but cruising & commuting , not all people love inline 2 sound(especially the newcomer that always think Inline 4 sound is the coolest sound ever than triple & thunder twin growl)

But still, you better test it out before you buy it...& for daily commuting I really recommend it alot... nod.gif

I'm frequent travel from JB - KL on weekly basis, I found ER-6N is cheap option for high speed and comfortable motorcycle compared to kapcai, at lease can reach destination in 3 hours, now using car really expensive plus toll, and bus is slow, Car fuel + toll = RM100 , if using motobikes maybe just around RM40. Still surveying for ER-6N. Want to test but last time I went to shop they not allowed me to sit. sad.gif

and pliss remember altho bikes are very fuel efficient, for er6n usually rm0.10 per 1 km @ 140kmh all the way.. but consumables will hurt your pocket,
with the rear tyre being the most expensive. Usually, a decent, sport touring type tyre such as battlax bt020 or bt021 can last you about 12000~ 15000km and it will cost you about rm500~520 a piece.. and not forgetting the chain and sprocket which can last about 15000~30000km depending on your care and maintenance and will set you back between rm400~600 per set.. and other than that the oil filter for this bike is quite expensive @ about rm50... hehe.. me? im a former er6n rider before i got in an accident 4 months back..

how close is work from your office?
will you be riding on the highway?

1) the Z has ALOT of torque and will be fun on the smaller roads
2) the 6n has less torque but for highway cruising, you will save more petrol.

thats why i ask about your trevel distance.

the difference is only 20k.
But remember, you almost double the cost of maintenance when you compare 2 cylinder vs 4 cylinder bike

assume standard service, engine oil & filter will set u back about RM 150 per service for Er6, for Z750 roughly u just double it..why?

ER6 2 Cylinder
2 bottle 1L Engine Oil (Rear tyre 160) 50 MPG (less fuel consumption)

Z750 4 Cylinder
4 bottle 1L Engine Oil (Rear tyre size 180, cost more) 40 MPG ( ++ fuel)

I would think that the ER6N was originally made as a daily city cruiser more than a long distance bike. The sitting position seems to be like a Blade or any other naked bike which can be quite uncomfortable for long distance without a few rest stops here and there... I know that mainly due to my aching knees riding from Johor to Penang.. hahaha

with ur distance from JB to Penang sure need few stop.. smile.gif

Er6 riding position were most comfortable for the majority. Unless u got urself a Goldwing smile.gif

I goes back ipoh couple time in a week..i take me roughly 1 n half hour with 10 minute break for smoke smile.gif

U must be riding more than 200KM/h i guess. Wind resistance not that good for naked. Get urself a nice Windshield..sure feel better smile.gif smile.gif

ehem..
the bike handling is light and nimble meaning you can flick the bike side to side during tight corner..
the acceleration is good, but dont expect it will accelerate like 1000cc bike, but it is night and day when you compare it to the other
beginners bike namely the ninja 250r..
the top speed will be 205kmh and if you are patient you can touch 210kmh
but ming you the bike is naked so you have to lie your chest on top of the tank to ride at that high speed..
usually for me, i always cruise at 140kmh but even at that speed i always get body ache because of the wind laugh.gif

hi guys,

just got my er6n today. the torque is really powerful.

I have a question for the owners of er6n. Is your gearbox very clunky? Whenever I change gear, it is very clunky. 1st gear is horrible. It jolts quite bad.

I have read a few forums and it seems that it is not break in properly.. The problem is that this is a second hand bike (Year 2009 and mileage is 35k) . It is impossible that it has not break in properly yet.

I suspect maybe it is the engine oil. Maybe the previous owner did not use fully synthetic engine oil.

try riding a 1000 cc kawasaki. Hear the sound when you change gear.
hell, try changing gear on a dry clutch ducati.

my point?
Its normal.
I dont know how engine oil can be linked to gearbox but I can tell you its not a problem.
Never was.

try riding a 1000 cc kawasaki. Hear the sound when you change gear.
hell, try changing gear on a dry clutch ducati.

my point?
Its normal.
I dont know how engine oil can be linked to gearbox but I can tell you its not a problem.
Never was.
*
yup. i second that. the bike will have a loud "KE-TAK" sound when the gears are engaged. it is especially loud in 1st gear.

VT-Ten,

Yes yes.. The loud sound "Ke-Tak"!! But did your bike jolt to the front a bit? Mine jolts a bit..

Besides this, is your bike heavier on the right side? When I corner on the left side, it s nice and smooth but when on the right side, suddenly it felt a bit heavy.

manggiss,

Nasib lah ini adalah normal. Ingatkan nak cari org tgk2 skit.. Boleh lah riding this weekend.. =)

I thought is coz of the exhaust and suspension is on the right side which cause it to be heavy on the right side..Need to check tyre and fork as well..

Does your bike heated up easily? It seems like mine after a 20 minutes ride, the fan is on and I can feel the heat at my feet area..

Which tyre you using now? Mine was BT 021- stupid tyre. Had same problem as you.
Then I changed front tyre to BT 023. reeeallly nice.

More relaxing to corner now.

But till today I cannot prove if its the tyre fault or not because the problem didnt come back.

this is possible also, but the thing is
I'm left handed. hmm.gif

But anyhow,
Ivanlim
this is what I experienced:

(just change front only)

BT-021 - Left cornering OK. Right cornering, the bike will "gegar" a bit and will try to fight your "baring".

BT-023 - Left cornering OK. Right Cornering OK. When you "baring" the bike will stay there until you pull back up.

my advice,
try to ride more and see before you change the tires.

Just went to my usual shop for service and placed in a windshield. Helped a lot in reducing the wind from hitting my body.. Wahaha

For the bike having issues in right corners, I have found out that it is the fork problem. The previous owner might have been involved in an accident.

I can live with it for now. Just need a few adjustments while riding and it will be ok...

The heat...Well, I have to live with it.. Hahah..I will have bbq feet soon

SkeletonKing,

Road tax is 250 and insurance..well..around 500-600..depends u plan for new bike or second hand

Heard from few biker friends ( 2 of em rides ER6) that ER6 got poor cornering dynamics. I know it's no supreme cornering machine, but is it that bad ?

I dun think is that bad..If you are comparing er6 and superbike like zx6 then i think of coz er6 will lose out..

I also have friends who says their er6 is really good in cornerings and even go for track day at Sepang. I think it depends on the rider itself on how comfortable they are with the bike

tires I am currently using bridgestone BT023 front.
BT021 back.

Reason I didn't change both is because the back was still new.

Im looking for tires that are suitable for mostly straight line usage, any recommendation? (this is a daily used bike)

Michelin Pilot Road 2 is quite good, used it on my Naza Blade before for front and rear ( 120/70/17 & 160/60/16 respectively) and it lasted quite long till I sold the bike, and also have good grip during rain..
Changed the rear tire at 14,000km++, sold the bike at 31,189km 6 months later and it still have plenty of threads left..
Now they have Pilot Road 3 and it might be a bit better..I'm using my bike as daily ride also smile.gif

It depends whether you are looking for new bike or second hand. If second hand, i would recommend to get year 2009 and above bike. I think you will be able to find in between 24k - 29k for year 2009 and above.

If you want to buy new bike then will be around 33k.

Hope this helps

I am thinking of getting the ER6N but i have not ride a bike with clutch before. Any advice from all the taiko here on how to start? By the way, i only have B2 licence now....

Multiplexer,

Yes I believe the clutch bike is easy enough to master as I did try my uncle Yamaha 125z 5 years ago. Manage to get the bike going but also mati enjin at traffic light.

I went to welly batu cave, they start taking order for ER6N 2012 already. First batch is going to be yellow color only. Price not confirm but should not exceed RM34k they said....

Now, I'm thinking for a newbie like me, should I get a new bike or second hand first?

The price is about RM 200 ++ more compared to previous model.
If you have ready cash and focus on the model you like (eg. ER6n 2012), go for new one.
If not, get second hand 2011 and below, but make sure you bring a friend that knows the bike and buy directly from previous owner smile.gif

Really adore this bike... wub.gif wub.gif

But have to control myself since I've decided to finish my car loan first (another 2- years to go) doh.gif then plan to get this lovely bike...

I'd pay a visit to check for the loan availability for this bike...but some of bank like CIMB that offering loan for bike implement a very strict term...other than bank, is Naza finance.

Dunno whether got any bike shop offering their own installment scheme for this bike.... sweat.gif

Currently Maybank offering low interest for CKD bikes. I just placed my booking for the ERN 2012 Yellow Bumble Bee. Can't wait for the loan approval.

it's 3.88% with 70% loan financing margin

meaning that u have to cough up 30% downpayment

how much is the ER-6n OTR price?

i got mine at 36,600 OTR (cash), with 1st party insurance, inclduing registration but w/o any freebies

the listed price for body only is 35,600+ here

Maybe BMW? Maybe FZ6? Hehhee.. I am more into touring.. Not sure whether wanna upgrade or stick with my ER6. Very easy to maintain and easy to ride. Once into i4 and thats it, everything s more expensive.

no significant difference, except new color scheme, new rear swingarm design, re-designed fairings

the 2012 model is almost a brand new bike - completely new chassis, fairings, and all - even the engine mapping is tweaked a bit to provide more low-end power

For me,I think not much difference.. No matter what upgrade they have made, it is still 6n. Which is still the most affordable bike and great in maintenance..

A little story of wat happened to my bike last week. It spent a few days in workshop because there were some issues with the flow of fuel. It seems like not so smooth n died out on me while riding.... After a few days check, found out that 1 of the cables got bitten off by RAT!!!

Hello ER6n owners/ex-owners.

Is it true that the some er6n have this common engine problem - where the exhaust valve will break/mis-align and causes a wreck up engine block?

I am about to put my booking fee for a used unit (year 2012/2013) and then I read about this issue.
The repair can be very costly.

Is this a common problem?

Worry now.... sad.gif

No need to worry about that. U can call Kawasaki Glenmarie for safety check on ur bike. If im not mistaken they can check whether the bike already changed to new valve or else they changed to new one FOC.

What's the mileage?.. but on general overview lifespan of motorbike engine is 5 years before it needs to have some overhaul.. (either top or whole engine)..

An earlier batch of ER6n with their 650cc tend to be abused due to mindset of Malaysian think buying a superbike instead of street naked bike...

However, if you really keen bring the bike to a reputable workshop for mechanic to assess, or at least bring some of your friend who have knowledge on motors

im planning to get a new one. i heard from the bike shop owner that new 2009 model no longer has that shakiness. max speed only 180kmph??? wat i hear was it can go more than 200kmph average. Thatz the reason I wanted to get the bike in the first place. Cheap and fast for long distance. Can go cruise back to Ipoh with avg 200-210 speed. U sure about the top speed?
*
210km/h all the way?

Go find extra money to buy a ZX10R.

Then go buy life insurance gao-gao coz ur family will need it when you wrap your bike around the highway divider.
