one question what is the different between closing window and minimize ?
*
when you close the window, you totally close the content of that window.. when you minimize, it goes down to your dock where you're able to bring it back out again.. btw for snow leopard, there's a new setting which allows the window to be minimized into the application icon on the dock (instead of the right side of the dock which is default).. goto dock settings, and tick on "minimize windows into application icon"..

@jind86,
Act I think it's possible.  There is a setting somewhere that you can configure whereby when U press the red [x] it will not minimise the app but to close it [except right now i'm in a meeting so i can't go through all the settings]

Alternatively, Y don't u just use Command-Q
*
yes i am currently using command-q, but im kinda used to clicking the red button and then i'll remember that it didnt close the program therefore i'd have to then click command-q after.. as i realize there are certain programs which closes right away when the red button is clicked, and there are others (most) which dont, so im wondering whether there's some sort of settings i could do as i feel it would be much convenient for me..

there is no effect for macbook pro, but it will use battery (1>1.5%)/hour.

no, i mean if the macbook pro is in sleep mode or turned off, battery is MAX and power is running, will it have any bad effects on the computer or the battery?

basically similar question as th3_glove20 above..

guys, when i move my new macbook pro around, at certain times when i tap the back of the notebook, i hear this weird noise, similar to "doink".. sounds like as if the disk drive is loose or something.. should i be concerned? or is this normal for the new mbp 13"?

happens on mine as well
its a sound from harddisk, but so far it hasnt cost me anything..no data loss or lag or what so ever
so dont really bother..probably hitachi HD are designed to be like that
because my hitachi external HD makes the same sound when i move it around when running while seagate doesnt
*
mine sounds like its from the right side of the notebook.. so far i've no problems as well but its just an annoyance, and if it can be fixed, it rather have it done.. the sound comes once awhile when im moving the notebook around..

anyone have this "issue" as well for the new mbp 13"?

go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor, and click on the System Memory tab. try to keep an eye on the green section...it shows you how much free memory do you have.

i wanna ask something about what are you referring to as 'slow', because ur problem may be ur hard drive. i suggest you try these things:

1. copy and paste huge files (maybe 10gb) around ur hard disk (meaning not from/to external). if it's slow, most likely hard drive problem
2. plug in two USB devices, and copy a file (the bigger the better) from one to another. if ur hard drive got problem, this shud not be slow.
3. when system hang, can you still move the cursor? if yes, likely its the hard drive. normally (from my experience) when not enough RAM, you cant do anything at all
4. have you been experiencing any kernel panics? where you get a black screen and a warning. if yes, more likely bad RAM
5. launch the applications that u normally use (safari, itunes, anything). then launch something heavy (photoshop, games). take note on how long it takes to launch, whether its normal or unusually slow. now quit the heavy app and launch it again. if it still launches slow, u dont have enough RAM. if it launches quickly, but very slow during the initial launch, bad hard drive.

anyway, try to have around 30% of ur hard drive free. the less free space it has, the slower the performance. a simple reason is because OSX is using that free space to kinda help the RAM a bit (virtual memory), so the more free space, the bigger the virtual memory, the better the performance. another more technical reason is about how the hard drive doesnt need to search for the whole disk to look for data...only searching the part it knows you have stuff on.

hey thanks for your write.. it says i have about 100 MB free.. im running like three firefox windows (each with about five tabs) and parallels desktop (windows running AVG in the background).. so can it be said that i have not enough RAM? And yes I have 1/3 of free hard drive space..

when i mean slow as in applications take long to open.. feels laggy.. im currently running on the new 2.26 ghz MBP, with 2GB RAM..
