I just got a K50AB from All-IT. Very impressive notebook for its price!

Was considering the K40AB for portability but fell in love with the full keyboard (numeric pad!) of the K50AB. biggrin.gif

how much did u get the k50 from all it coz i went last week there was none. hehe

Same price as K40AB. I pre-ordered mine, so they had my unit of K50AB sent there since there is only K40AB on display and stock only K40AB. biggrin.gif

Just came back from PC Fair today. Apparently, the K50AB ran out of stock! Maybe they didn't estimate the demand would be so good even though at a higher price. sweat.gif
But K40AB still have stock though.

I've compared K50AB side by side with K40AB. Everything is the same. biggrin.gif

The K40AB will look sharper as the screen is smaller, which is common sense.

Yes, it has a DVD-RW drive. Must be setting problem on your Nero. Try recheck.

To detect HD4570, go to BIOS and change setting from PowerExpress to dGPU. brows.gif

does k50ab has heat issues like k40ab?
*
What do you mean exactly?
I don't think the K40AB itself has any heat issues.

Maybe it works with the latest driver and new Mobility Modder from driverheaven, but I rather live with fixed brightness (although you can set it to whatever you like, and the setting will take shape after you reboot) rather than have to sacrifice some memory on onboard graphics
*
I have to say I'm also experiencing the fixed brightness issue on Vista running on AMD/ATi latest drivers. sweat.gif
I feel like just switching back to the stock drivers that come with the CD. hmm.gif

After updating Windows Vista, the brightness control issue seems to be gone. And now I can freely switch between HD3200 and HD4570. Awesome. biggrin.gif

i can confirm that by updating Vista completely, my brightness control with the AMD/ATi drivers problem has been solved. now can change brightness w/o having to restart.

Ok. Something weird happened.
I was testing the laptop sleep function after updating Vista, and it seems to work perfectly now! and I can wake-up the laptop without any screen blank issue.
but after I did that, my laptop now runs with the fan at quite high speed (like when the laptop usually starts up).
now i get a noisier laptop but my temp in air-conditioned room is now 36 deg (idle). biggrin.gif

problem is now, I tried turning the laptop off and on, and restarting, but the fan speed is still the same. so it seems to be some software issue perhaps. hmm.gif

on xp: cant use powerxpress to save power
pro: boot faster, less annoying eg: installing software/games, sharing files etc.
and one more, sharper movie image? i think the movie look sharper in xp windows coz i used vista before and it does not look sharp ....
*
u can remove the authorization settings to remove the annoying notifications when installing programs, etc.
about sharper movie image, XP and Vista looks the same to me.

but everest stated the GPU diode temp... isnt that GPU temp???
*
yes, this is GPU (HD4570) temp. goes up high if I game on it. and even the internal GPU (HD3200) has temp sensor.

Why there's no one recommend me any super cool laptop-cooler?
*
IMHO, laptop-coolers will not help much for notebooks with air-intake design such as the K40/50AB.
I use an air-cond to solve the problem. biggrin.gif

tried GTA 4 on windows 7.. doesnt seem too good.. full resolution with lowest detail level.. lags but still playable.. maybe vista will improve.
*
GTA4 is more RAM and graphic-RAM dependent. Even some gaming rigs with insufficient RAM and graphic-RAM will suffer lag.

Anybody know any suitable laptop backpack to fit the K50AB? Most laptop bags I think are fit for 15.4" max whilst the K50AB is 15.6".

i think it shouldnt be a problem.. it is just abit longer den 15.4.. da width is da same eh..

i guess any bags which can hold 15.4.. should be able to jold k50 also. hahaa.. im thinking of golla.. rm80 i found.. huhhu..
*
haha. another thing also. the K50AB is a larger in length and shorter in width due to 16:9 aspect ratio screen, whereas older wide-screen laptops use 16:10 aspect ratio screen. i think one day i have to bring my K50AB to the shop to test out on the bag before buying. sweat.gif

Just played Burnout Paradise. in 1366x768 medium settings, and the shadow is set to LOW. A bit laggy sometimes (i think it went to load the map some more) overall is good. Dunno how to calculate framerate.

here is the screenie:

Were you using 3200 or 4570 for that?

I find the the 3200 cannot meet my expectations for gaming, even though it is a lot better than Intel GMA graphics on other laptops.
But once I switch display to 4570, silky smooth all the way. thumbup.gif

Previously, only laptops with 17" and above had numeric keypads.
But these days, most laptops come in at 16:9 aspect ratio screen which make them wide enough to accommodate a numeric keypad even at 15.6".

Most people would find it increases productivity a lot by having a numeric keypad as calculating/keying numbers can be very fast. Also, it helps in gaming such as Dota. tongue.gif
