QUOTE(ZeroSP @ Jul 12 2009, 09:40 PM) Ohh i stand corrected. I though the 1.5 engine from the new city is basically the same from the R series. But in terms of honda engines, nothing beats the K series and the old school B series. Too bad the K series will be discontinued once the new generation of civic arrives and will use back the R series. |

Turbo is powerful till it leaks! When it leaks, it is expensive to repair. Even after repair, it will leak again. NA still the best for fun and daily drive.
Look at those drive smart fortwo. Because the engine and turbo leaks every 2 years, the resale value drop from RM 65k to RM 55k in 1 year. Basically, avoid turbo-charged Euro cars unless the service centre is capable of handling the problem (many couldn't be bothered and only interested to sell). If you want a turbo-charged car, stick to Japanese as parts are easy to find and affordable. |

Turbo turbo... Which force induction vehicle is not fast? NA is the real "engineering" to squeeze out power lolz... But nvm, since Malaysia road tax system is... Aihz...
Anyway, suggest TS to upgrade to FD2, or go for the Lancer like those Mitsu fans will do. |

and 1.8 civic is ok la....not very underpower also....drive my brother FD1....the ride stil go smooth.....if compared with 2.0 for sure 2.0 win down hand....but 1.8 stil have the power there....just test drive urself =) EDITED =) is VTEC This post has been edited by chongkiatz: Jul 12 2009, 11:37 PM |

The turbo problem is all depends on how you drive the car, how lucky when you got the car & lastly whether it is a high or low pressure turbo. Manufacturer include turbo is normally not as fragile/problematic as those bolt-on or 3rd party ones. Had a 3 years old Fortwo in my house, no problem thus far except the not so cold air-cond.

manufacturer turbo is mainly manufactured for reliability. they do not design the car to maximise the turbo. normally the turbo in standard cars are not performing at full performance to improve reliability. the engines are tested for many kilometers for durability before being approved for production. this is unlike the turbo you buy and bolt on.
since the turbo is the same as the one found in the new mini, i think you shouldn't worry about the reliability... bmw would have made sure of it already before putting the same engine in their highly perceived mini models. but then, the older civic is surely easier to maintain due to abundance of spare parts and the civic engine has been around for some time already. and if you can't afford new original parts, you can buy chop shop parts. for peugeot, as the model is new, you will need to get ori parts from official distributor. |

QUOTE(Denise_D @ Jul 13 2009, 11:32 PM) i heard that this pug 308 won't allow tinkering on the sound system including changing the headunit . is this true?? ICE and peugeot cars don't mix... unfortunately. because peugeot like many european brands now use multiplex wiring. this means one wire serves many functions. e.g. one wire may handle current flow for the in-car entertainment system, the info display unit and even the indicator stalks. the system depends on a steady flow of electricity and resistance to function normally. if any wires are cut, the resistance will differ and it may affect the vehicle's general operations like when you turn on your lights and find your wipers coming on at the same time. i;m thinking to drop in an amp and woofer...possible??? apparently, the french think their oem sound systems are good enough and will void your warranty with regards to non-original electrical devices being installed in the car... (including non-original reverse sensors etc.) btw, they will also void your warranty if you tap power direct from the battery... so the choice is yours. i know of a case where an 807 (already past warranty) owner installed an in-car dvd system. it somehow short circuited and screwed up some of the car's equipment. the french were willing to consider giving warranty on the items that got screwed up but they backed out when they found out about the dvd system. |
