Yup, he should be around that age.

QUOTE(-XIII- @ Aug 14 2011, 12:44 AM)
Cuz sometimes when hold her I accidentally press it's quil. Scared will poked herĀ  tongue.gif

Added on August 14, 2011, 12:45 amI saw my hedge scratching last night so I gave her bath today with shampoo. But she is still scratching, is it got mite? I tried to check for mite but I don't think i found any.. Btw, is the back of thebskin suppose to be smooth and pink? Cuz mine look bumpy and dirty..

Anyway for potty training, for poop I know place the poop in the litter box to show her where to poo, but how bout pee?lol

I feel my hedgie is lonely/bored. she was running on the wheel then she got bored of it I guess, so she stop and walk around sniff her water bowl, towel, tunnel, toilet roll, and back to her wheels again, like looking for something else to play like that.. sad.gif

If your hedgehog is quilling at the moment (do you find fallen quills in the cage with a ball at the end of the quill?), then that will explain the constant scratching & bumpy skin (those are quills trying to break through).

I don't potty-train my hedgies so I wouldn't know, sorry.

And hedgehog do that all the time. Run run run, freeze, sniff, run, jump off, sniff somemore. xD
It's not because they're bored, it's just how they are.
If you want to provide more 'mental stimulation' for your hedgie, you can bring it out from the cage & let it explore your living room/some hedgie-proof place.
If your hedgie runs under the cupboard, make sure you are able to retrieve it. wink.gif

Ask shukri77. He's from JB & I think he mentioned that he got it from a pet shop in JB. smile.gif
Do research before getting a hedgehog! biggrin.gif

You can actually let the dog & hedgie 'mingle'.
Once your dog gets a nose full of needles, he/she'll know to avoid you hedgie. xD

I don't think all dogs are like your dog.
I see a number of videos on Youtube where they get along just fine.
Of course, a hedgie out of the cage should be supervised at all times. smile.gif
I don't like the idea of hedgehogs living in their cage for all their life.
That's just sad.

QUOTE(olivur @ Aug 17 2011, 11:28 PM)
in theory the more you handle your hog, the more it will become accustomed to you and eventually open up.

but in reality, they are different individuals tongue.gif for instance mine has never ever balled up when i pick her up. which makes me kinda.. let's just say i'm missing out on this whole balling up phenomenon ,_,

and on the other end of the spectrum we have huffster. telileti has tried prolly every trick in the book and he still sees her as a potential threat ._x

so i guess what i'm trying to say is the answer you seek when asking how long it takes for a hog to be friendly to it's caretaker is highly subjective tongue.gif
*
True.

Huffy's been a lot nicer to me since I started spending a lot more time with him recently.
He sits in my lap while I watch TV nowadays. I think he likes being cuddled. laugh.gif

Plus, I've been bribing him after I pick him up everytime. I'm 'conditioning' his mind to think that getting picked up is good. Just like I've conditioned Chubster to associate the sound of me shaking the mealworm cup with getting treats. (She just gets up & run to the 'mealworm corner', it's hilarious)

The hoglets have all started annointing. They pretty much licked & bit all over my palms. Very sticky business.

And regarding the permit for 'exotic' animals, I finally got a reply from the respective department. biggrin.gif

"Not all exotic pets need licence or special permit, only those that are listed under First and Second Schedule require licence or special permit to keep. Since African Pygmy Hedgehog are not listed under Act 716, thus African Pygmy Hedgehog need no licence or special permit to keep the animal."

LOL, superworms look too creepy to me so I don't buy them.
Not yet, still closed.
SHould open around 3 weeks or so.
Their 'snouts' have formed nicely though. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(olivur @ Aug 17 2011, 11:52 PM)
i still hope to see the day that my hog would actually eat an insect that i present to her ,_,

yes i've tried snapping it in half and letting her sniff it.
yes i've tried leaving it in her food bowl

only thing i've not tried is actually putting it in my mouth to show her it's edible  shakehead.gif

SHOVE IT IN HER MOUTH!

Lol, I kid. Tried rubbing the bug juices on her cute little snout yet? Maybe with a lick or two at her snout, she'll like it.

@ olivur : If you really REALLY want her to eat those bugs, crush 'em up & mix with the kibbles. xD You know, stick bits of crushed bugs to her kibble.
That's what I do with banana & Huffy's kibble.

@ ddr3 : Sounds like Huffy as well. Doesn't want to touch the beetle. Chubster doesn't care though. She'll eat anything & everything.
