Yup. You can drop a bit of oil on his food too. smile.gif

I just noticed Huffster scratching like crazy. I dropped some Evening Primrose Oil on his back & food.
I was clipping Huffster's nails earlier & accidentally clipped a small part of his quick. I didn't notice it until I was putting drops of oil on his foot & I saw that he kept licking his injured nail. Poor boy. I put a bit of corn starch on it & he ignored his foot after that. biggrin.gif

Now he stopped scratching & went back to sleep already. biggrin.gif

Takes a while for them to get used to you.

Could be a cinnacot snowflake, maybe?
There seems to be a light dust of 'snow' in the third picture. smile.gif

There's a picture here of a cinnacot snowflake.

There's a type of water tower that look like penis for hamsters.. Wonder if its suitable for hedgehog cause i forgot the size of it already..
*

LOL, I have no idea what you mean.
Is it like a pet feeder?

I'm keeping this female hoglet. I have a feeling that she's going to turn out like the colour of her dad, a silver snowflake. smile.gif
She has her mother's calm temperament as well, which is great.

Wow so young  you take out to take photo?
Lol, mama hedgie doesn't mind me taking them from the nest everyday.
As long as I bring her treats, she's happy.

Plus, I want to start getting them used to human contact. smile.gif
I don't want to give away/sell bad-tempered hedgehogs, like Huffster.

I've read that there's no such thing as not handling them before you give them to another owner because you don't want the hedgehog to bond to you.
That's why I ended up with a really bad-tempered hedgehog.
Because the breeder didn't try to tame an already bad-tempered hedgehog from young.

----

Their quills are kind of sharp but their nails are sharper. laugh.gif
The quills are still soft though, like the bristles on a soft toothbrush.

lol.. cute hoglets..

I got mine from an exhibition in my campus. I remembered buying them for RM 140 and RM 120 for albino and snp (unrelated).

the first batch of hoglets are 3 female and 2 male
2 are cinnamon and 3 are albino

DDR3 is having one of the cinnamon
btw, hows the little one?

erm.. I didn't miss out anything, didn't i?
*
Whoa! You have pet exhibitions on campus?! shocking.gif
That's so cool.
Nope, answered my questions. biggrin.gif Thanks!

QUOTE(olivur @ Aug 11 2011, 02:42 AM)
telileti - but i like dibs ;-; if i do get him from you, i'll call him dibs.

eugene - yup. it's just pretending to sleep, lol tongue.gif you could use red lights to watch them in action.
*
LOL, he's a tiny one so Dibs sounds just about right for him. wink.gif
I picked up the female hedgehog today, she refused to uncurl from her mini ball.
She's the chubbiest & largest of 'em all.
I guess she got mama's chubby genes.

Hopefully he stays a pinto. Some hedgies change color after quilling. Lol.

QUOTE(ck888 @ Aug 11 2011, 10:51 AM)
I also plan to get one wheel for hedge in Klang Valley.
But, is 11inch still consider small for hedge?
It is 2.54cm less in diameter compare to 12inch.
Does 2.54cm makes a lot different?
*
Already answered you PM. smile.gif
11 inch isn't much different from 12 inch.
11 inch is just the minimum size wheel for a hedgehog. wink.gif

I would like to warn all hedgehog owners out there about feeding their hedgehogs large-sized kibbles.

I feed Chubster Royal Canin Fit 32 + Royal Canin Kitten 36.

user posted image + user posted image

I was giving her treats yesterday when I noticed she was 'coughing' repeatedly. I had a feeling that she was choking on something because I've read about it on a hedgehog forum about the risk of hedgehogs choking before.

I was just about to go help her out when she finally coughed up what she had been choking on, which was a RC32 kibble.

I thought it was small & safe enough for her to eat without choking.
Apparently not.

Read up on how to help your hedgie on this page so you'll be prepared in case it happens to you.

When I fed her this morning, I manually broke each kibble in half, one by one, so she won't have to go through that experience again.

just out of curiosity, when your hog eats her kibbles, does she chew on it ._.?

mine actually chews on each kibble before swallowing (i could tell when she's eating cause it's usually noisy as she crunches down on each kibble)
*
Yes, she does.
I think she tried to crunch down on this one but accidentally swallowed it.

once i thought lil was just chewing on grass to annoint herself as usual up to a point i heard crunching sounds? she was gnawing on a pebble sleep.gif
*
It was. I had a mini heart attack right there and then. Phew!
I don't have a garden. unsure.gif
Poor girl. Did she chip a tooth? D:

same as mine lor! We got from the same breeder , he said about hedgehog bonding to him so he dont play with them. The guy with spects right? Forum name tanjesper something like that. My female so fierce and bad tempered too , so we in the same boat la haha..
*
Wow, you could bring your pets to school? shocking.gif
I got Chubster from him because he didn't want her anymore after he bred her.
I think your little Hibari is Chubster's kid. Lol.

She refuses to exercise? Hmm, try cutting down on the food that you give her then. 2 tbsp of food would do.

Chubs didn't choke on the star-shaped one. She choked on the round, flat one. sad.gif

RC36 is very small so I don't think she can choke on that one.

Licences a must soon for all who keep exotic animals

How true is it?!!

I read that on the front page of The Star this morning.

I'm planning on going to a pet store that sells hedgehogs soon & ask if they need permit or not. smile.gif

Does it matter though?
As long as you get to keep your pet at the end of the day, the amount of money & time you have to put into getting that permit would be worth it, don't you think? smile.gif

I just hope they don't say that hedgehogs are illegal in Malaysia like it is in Singapore.

Added on August 11, 2011, 8:09 pmI caught videos of the hoglets annointing in the nest. I didn't know they start annointing so young.

@ olivur : I'm glad your hedgie's doing just fine. biggrin.gif

We can throw our little ball of needles at them if they want to rampas. laugh.gif

Hedgies are not in the protected wildlife list but it is considered an exotic animal in S'pore.

hope he is doin ok there. i gt sum prob bugging me 2 in the morning when i found 1 quill without the ball, like its been cut off....then i checked my hedgie, i found this.....

[attachmentid=2382173]

any1 care to explain to me? is it juz an abnormal quill?  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif
*
D:
It could be an ingrown quill. Try bathing him in some salt water (not too salty) to disinfect it. It's going to hurt but getting an infection on it would hurt a lot more for him. Monitor the wound for a few days. If it doesn't heal up nicely, definitely visit the vet.

I'm sorry your first hedgehog died. sad.gif
You need to keep them in room temperature, best if you avoid putting them in an air-conditioned room.

Please read this page to equip yourself with more info about taking care of a hedgehog :

Then it must have been some illness that he picked up from the pet store.
My rabbit died exactly 1 week after I got him from the pet shop. T'was heartbreaking.

Most animals kept in pet stores aren't cared for properly & tend to be sick.
Since you got this new hedgie from the pet store, I would definitely suggest keeping an eye on him & his behavior for the next few days.
You're in Penang (right?), so I don't know if there's any vets there that can do a check-up on a hedgehog.

I have problems accessing Hedgehog Central all the time.
I frequent Chins & Hedgies and Hedgehog World.

Definitely try getting rid of the mite problem using olivur's suggestion first.
I wouldn't recommend using anti-mite sprays on hedgehogs because these sprays are meant for cats & dogs.

You can start socializing with him tomorrow. smile.gif

Hoglet Update:
Babies are coming along nicely.
I have one friendly male & female and one very huffy male.
He refuses to uncurl and when he does, he huffs & jumps in my hand. vmad.gif
He's going to be one difficult hog, just like his father. mad.gif

LOL, true. I try to socialise with him more than the other two.
He's a tough nut to crack.

I bought more mealworms today & I just found out why the mealworms that I buy from the pet store is larger than the ones I raise myself.
They feed the mealworms yeast.
I saw tiny brown cylindrical substance when I looked at the bottom & realised it looked exactly like the stuff my mum used to bake cakes.

According to this page, it says that feeding yeast to hedgehogs is alright.
Hmm, I should go buy some yeast. biggrin.gif

Hahaha, thanks. He's huffier than Huffy now.
Huffy is finally 'toning it down' with his behaviour a little.
He even stayed curled up, staring at me while I watch TV yesterday. biggrin.gif
Usually he just wants to run away.
